  • Primary fruit is almost gone , there is a hint of white flower -Jasmin? The secondary leaning towards tertiary aromas are what is left, stems, menthol and some volatile compounds. Flavors are lean and this has really dried out which is surprising as it seems a lot more advanced then a bottle I had 4 years ago. Acidity now stands out. Liked it better at that time although at the time I thought it would age better. Serviceable but not that pleasurable.

  • $20 at K&L. Restrained nose with a bit of funk, elsewhere described as mushroom or forest floor. I think it may be a bit of sulfur, but not unpleasant. Overall the nose is restrained but with hints of lavender and violets. On the palate, its light to medium bodies with bright red fruit and good acidity, and some nice toast behind. The finish is reasonably long. Altogether a very decent, if not spectacular, Pinot at this price point

  • I like this wine much, especially for the price ($17 on KLWines), which did not factor into my rating. It is a cool-climate-tasting pinot with lots of complexity on the nose: cherry, lavender, toasted coriander seed, mint, and mushroom. It is graceful and lithe. Fine-grained tannins appear on the finish in a polite show of strength. To my mind, this is prototypical pinot noir.

I have been very impressed with the pinots I've tasted from Central Otago. It's been a small sample set to be sure, but Central Otago pinots have been more consistent in appealing to my pinot sensibilities than Burgundy pinots (and certainly more than U.S. pinots).

  • Moderate depth, purple red. Rich, spicy aroma, berries. Moderate length, mostly acid with little tannin. Low to moderate extract/weight. Ok flavour.

  • Very nice and just-lean, though the heat shows through.

  • Heady nose of forest floor and ripe cherry. Very brief and sharp fruit complexity matched with light smoke. I believe this is technically good and has potential, but on my tastebuds, is not an enjoyable Pinot.

  • NobleRottersSydney - Christmas Lunch 2013 (DavidC's house): {screwcap, 13.5%} (Gordon) Mid-garnet. Polished cherry nose over a dark earthy foundation. Classic Otago mix of brightness and earth. Sweetly-fruited, with gentle gritty tannins. Blossoms like a flower on the palate. The sweetness of the fruit flavours is surprisingly contrasted with a very dry and quite austere finish. Medium-bodied. Very good but needs some time to mature.
