Could probably go 92 as there are still a bit of tannins and a hint of grape juice on the back end and back of the tongue. Suspect those will integrate in a year or two.

Crimson/ruby, good color to the rim but no longer opaque, throwing a bit of sediment. Good fruit, acid/tannin good but not quite balanced. Good length.

A lighter petite sirah than I am used to. There are plenty of blue and purple fruits though. A great choice when you don't want to be floored by the typical 15.9% petites or when you don't want your teeth to be stained black.

Decanted this about thirty minutes before drinking. Dark purple color. Ripe dark fruits. Blackberry, raspberry. Oak and a little bit of spice. Big drying tannin. Good acid.

Dark purple, opaque. Not overly aromatic. Dark macerated fruits, cherry cola, slight vanilla and burnt oak. Nothing overly complex or interesting, pleasant big dark wine to drink nonetheless.

Was planning on holding this a bit longer, but opened it for surprise evening with friends. It is a pleasure to drink now, with gorgeous glossy fruit and a heady nose. The tannins are a bit gritty, and the midpalette a bit watery. Hopefully a bit of age will show better integration.

Our first Ridge (courtesy of Grapes, White Plains) (Landmarc): Big tannic beast especially being drunk side by side with the Ponzo Zinfandel that was poured. This is dark plum and wood. It opened up a bit in the glass over the course of many hours, but feels like it needs more time to be ready to drink (or a long decant). Bottle was opened about 2.5 hours before drinking so did get some slow ox.

I do not like this wine. Ridge gets so much credit for being an "old school" California producer that I sometimes forget how much of what they make is like this. The back label admits they had to manage "extra concentration" on account of lower yields. The result is still what I'd regard as outside acceptable norms for drinkable, civilized wine. It is not sweet or candied. It is just heavy and vulgar, the same profile you get from a typical California supermarket wine though in a deeper, blacker pitch. Thick, unrestrained fruit spackled with wood. The wood isn't heavy, but it's raw and drying, an unappetizing tongue-depressor taste. One thing I do love about Ridge is the full disclosure on the back label. This has added acid but no added water. Cutting it with water probably would have been an improvement, though. The leftovers the next day are no better. The structure has moderated the fruit a bit, but the wood is even worse, even more raw and aggressive and now showing dill as well.

Petite Sirahs on a Satruday Afternoon (ICASI): On my end of the table, we were disappointed by this one. It is very good, but we hoped for more. I think the real issue is that it is just too young. It needs time to develop and put on weight. Inky purple in color. The nose is very tight with black raspberries. Thinner texture. Sinewy. Black raspberries. Densely packed. Put away for ten years.

This is a young wine. That being said: deep ruby to purple, almost opaque at the center. Blackberry and blueberry aromas, and some new American oak. Tannins are very present but also extraordinarily smooth. Very fleshy. Medium acidity. Fruit is a little muted compared to tannins at this point. Potentially very good.

This is without any doubt the best Petite Sirah I have ever tasted. Great dark fruit with obvious notes of oak. Great balance and good acidity. I also find some spices and a great back bone. At first the wine is really smooth but it is a young wine that will shurely gain in complexity with 5-10 years of cellaring. I'm going to by more of this. 3,5NJP

Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Still a beast of a wine. More alcohol, more fruit, very young and big in style. Lots of tannin. Feels a bit like you could age this for forever.

Decanted 2 hours. Some sediment Still opaque dark garnet. Some lightening on the rim. Medium bodied.
Nose has some minerality along with dark fruit.
Tannin are starting to soften. Balanced acidity, black fruits, minerals.
Overall, this is starting to open nicely into all that I lave about aged Petite Sirah.

Incredible PS, not a monster by any means. Lots of acidity keeps this fresh and drinkable now, but it obviously can age 20 years.
