  • This bottle was very Bordeaux-like. Notes of graphite and leather; dark fruit that was a bit more subdued than other bottles of this (which were more Napa-like). Wish I had more— hell of a bargain via WTSO.

  • Day 1: AS the one who made this wine and Lisa you missed the boat but fine by me as it is $29.99. WTSO just had 50 more bottles so win for me. Funk, raspberries, minerals, stone, spices and floral notes. Amazing wine and not going anywhere. Another case for me!!! 94 points
Day 2: Even more balanced on day 2. Mild funk, blueberries, raspberries, minerals, stone, spice, black licorice and menthol. Complex and medium plus finish. Again thanks to Lisa Brown for giving this 86 points and allowing WTSO to offer it for only $27.99 a bottle. Not too many better at that price. 94 points

  • Good red fruit flavors but a bit oaky and out of balance for my tastes

  • Good, but not nearly as much funk as previously (or as desired). Somewhat less developed? Bottle variation is pretty strong here.

  • Still almost inky black with just touch of ruby/purple on the rim. Ripe nose has somewhat dusty cassis, alcohol, mint, savory thyme and some crushed pepper. Palate is clean and ripe with pretty and pure cassis, dark fruits, low to low+ acid but the grippy tannins keep it from being flabby. Finishes medium+ with some interesting earthy tones.
I enjoyed this more right after opening, it has all sorts of VA/funkiness going on but after a 24 hour decant when I took these notes, it sort of settles to a more traditional warm climate cab.

  • Day 1: Again, another stellar bottle. Funk, blueberries, dark cherry, menthol, spice, floral and baking spices. Concentrated wine and long finish. Excellent. 93 points
Day 2: Funk in the house with blueberries, dark cherry, menthol, crush rock, spices, earth and pencil lead. This wine is amazing. I get why some don't like it but they probably are not into the more funky wines and should probably stick to Napa 15% plus wines. This wine is amazing. 94 points
Day 3: Still amazing and so much for certain wines not good from an off vintage. This wine is a star. Funk, charcoal, spice, minerals, dark berries and menthol. Just a wonderful wine and for $30 one of the better deals in the last few years. Of course sold out via WTSO. 93 points
Recommendation: Buy a case immediately if ever seen on WTSO again.

  • Nice complexity and development. It can still cellar for years and years. Great wine

  • Hygiene issues same as previous bottle

  • This bottle was fairly Napa-like, but with a touch of brett funk on the nose. With air, the funk faded and the wine added complexity. If this pops up again on WTSO, I’m buying more for sure.

  • Aussie Tasting (Minneapolis, MN): The Napa version of this wine tonight. Many thought it needed more time which tells you this is not a flawed bottle as one reviewer previously thought. Plum, dark berries, spice, earth, mild oak and tobacco. Medium plus finish. Did not decant this and probably needed a few hours.

  • Day 1: Was really not exciting like previous bottles. Muted fruit and some spice and earth notes. 85 points
Day 2: Again, patience pays off. Wonderful nose featuring pencil lead, spice, blueberries and plum. Palate is equally exciting with same but adds pepper and floral notes. Medium plus and this wine is off the charts good. Ordering another six pack! 93 points
    Recommendation: Sold Out!

  • Day 1: Another winner. Dark berries, menthol, funk, sour cherry, spice and earth. Medium plus finish. Super awesome wine for $27.99. 93 points

  • Day 1: Bringing back the funk. Blueberries, sour cherry, menthol, coffee beans, minerals and tar. Medium plus finish and one of the better pop and pours of this wine. $27.99 folks! 94 points
Day 2: Still rocking. Maybe a tad bit better. Sour cherry, menthol, roasted nuts, blueberries, tar, floral and earth. Nice funk to it and some gravel on the finish. Outstanding. 94.5 points
Recommendation: Not all bottles are this good but 90 or higher on all the ones I have tasted.

  • Day 3 review. This bottle is unique from the other bottles. More of the Aussie Eucalyptus, white pepper, dust, rose petals and mild spice. While not as good as the other bottles it is $27.99 and not going to find many better at that price point. 90 points

  • Day 1: Again great value for under $30. Pepper, cherry, underbrush, minerals, tar and blueberries. For all those haters move on as this is a legit wine from an off vintage. 92 points

  • Day 1: Wonderful with cherry, dark berries, menthol, Asian spice, gravel and black licorice. Median plus finish and stellar bottle. I have had one off bottle of about 12 sampled and this is off the charts good. This is a good example trust the tracker rating on this wine not WA. 94 points
Day 2: Bottle was rocking on day 1 but not as good on day 2 but serviceable at that. Cherry, menthol, sour berries, minerals and mild spice. Shorter finish. 90 points
    Recommendation: Drink these now.

  • Dark and dusky. I agree with many other reviewers who note a bit of funk amidst the fruit. Some complexity, but more muddy than identifiably discreet. Pleasant, and a good introduction to Clarendon (never had one of their wines before) but i understand other cuvees and vintages are better.
    (Thanks to EF.)

  • This is an exceptionally lovely bottle of vino. Soft without ever approaching being flabby, theres some berries, root beer and a herbaceous touch to a complex, long finish. Eleven years old and its still a young wine. If youre not familiar with Australian Cabernet, think a classified St. Julian and youll have an idea of what this wine is all about.

  • Bretty upon pop-and-pour; this needs a decant. Otherwise good.

  • Overwhelmed by brett and sulphur notes masking everything else for my palate. Probably a hygiene issue. I've had natural wines that were cleaner and more enjoyable. No wonder they still can't get rid of these on WTSO and other clearance sites 10+yrs after release. I was not going to rate thinking this was a flawed bottle but apparently (based on other reviews) "it's a feature not a bug". Hopefully the other bottles will show better and won't go down the drain.

  • Better on Day 2 or 3!; 6/2/2022-7/5/2022 (3 Day Wine Review World Headquarters, Minneapolis, MN): Day 1: Here comes the funk again! Perfect bottle featuring funk, blueberries, minerals, mild spice, dust and plum. Medium plus finish and a steal of a wine for $27.99! 94 points
Day 2: Similar experience and funk still present. Nice fruit and earth elements. Medium plus finish. Again best wine for under $30. 94 points
Recommendation: Still at WTSO for $27.99 and they hold for fall shipping. I will be buying more this fall so maybe don't buy it please.

  • Nose: Cassis, earthy, milk chocolatey wood; very nice. Palate: concentrated blackberries, smokey, prickly tannins, sweet brightness reminiscent of sun-dried tomatoes on the finish, slight oxidation, black pepper. If I didn't know any better, I'd have thought this was a well-aged cabernet sauvignon/syrah blend as this seems to have a strong syrah component especially on the finish. Consider drinking up now as I'm not sure it will get much better with more age.

  • Better on Day 2 or 3!; 6/2/2022-7/5/2022 (3 Day Wine Review World Headquarters, Minneapolis, MN): Day 1: Funk, bell pepper, minerals, saddle wood and sour cherry. Rustic finish. For sure not a stellar bottle compared to others. The bell pepper is overwhelming on the finish. We will see if it blows off on day 2. 88 points
Day 2: Another transformation in a positive direction. The bell pepper quality that detracted is not as present and this offers more blueberries, minerals, cherry, dust, mild funk and coffee beans. Medium plus finish. 92 points
Day 3: Holding form of day 2. These wines will drink well for a few more years but honestly they are drinking wonderfully right now. 92 points
Recommendation: $27.99 Not going to too many better wines for under $30.

  • Dark ruby color. Rich currant some spicy vegetal notes, vanilla. Syrupy currant, blackberry, and blueberry with a candied finish. Still some good acid and tannins. Some light vanilla, cedar, and tobacco notes on the exit. Medium- finish.

  • Day 2: First bottle last night corked but this is rocking on day 2. Bell pepper, bramble, dust, cherry, earth and mild funk. This wine continues to impress and many versions are solid of this wine. It has some Napa, Washington State, Bordeaux and Aussie Cab at any time. Unique. 92 points

  • Very dark ruby with slightly developed rim. Nose has slight VA, very dark fruit profile with fresh crushed black pepper as a spicy note. It's not a clean nose, but in an enjoyable way. I guess this is what some people call "funky". Palate is aggressive with wall of dark fruit and some brighter cranberry/raspberry influence, leather and nicely rounded tannins. Not overly ripe, has nice balance and structure with slight lift from medium- acidity. Surprisingly complex, pairs well with spicy foods. Ready to drink but will likely hold steady for at least some years.

  • Day 1: Neighbors came over and that bottle gone so one to this one. This is one that is more Napa style. No funk like the last bottle. This is more dark fruits, spice, oak, vanilla and minerals. Not as good as the previous bottle but solid. 91 points
Day 2: The funk is back. Nice fruit featuring blueberries, cherry and blackberries. Spice, minerals, pepper and earth. Picks up some cigar on the medium plus finish. Wonderful perfume quality also. Great transformation. 93 points

  • Day 1: My new everyday wine and need to get more before it gets to hot to ship from the east coast. This has that funk! Raspberries, minerals, dust, cherry, pepper and wood. As complex of a wine under $30 (retail $75) as you will ever find. Amazing. 94 points
Neighbors came over and this bottle out!

  • Quite good for the price. Nice combination of old-world funk with new world fruit. Cassis, tar, leather, menthol, spice. Well integrated tannins. Enjoyable.

  • Well after reading the a different reviews on this wine here I was very curious to try this one. Seems people are all over the place. My two cents… this is very nice wine drinking really well right now. Great nose of dried flowers, leather, black fruit, and menthol. Nice spicy white pepper, more warm fruit and licorice on the mouth. Good fruit, a touch warm but not hot, decent acidity and still some good grip on the nicely integrated tannins. Good lingering finish. So yeah there is some funk as was mentioned by others but it’s really nice and not off putting at all. I respectfully disagree with another reviewer who seems to complain about a lack of fruit, this has plenty of fruit, not at all overdone but full bodied and correct for what it is and where it is from. Clearly an excellent wine drinking better than previous vintages I have had and by all means easily above a 90 point threshold. In a nice place now but no rush I suspect this will continue to drink well for many years to come. A steal for $28
    Tasted twice with consistent showings.
I would also add that two of the reviewers (the lowest ratings) here are probably scammers of some sort, and likely the same person. They just joined, have commented on other posts negatively and have almost no other reviews. I have no skin in this game just giving the the CT community my honest opinion.

  • Day 1: This is very similar to the 2nd bottle and features more fruit. Blueberries, plum and boysenberries. Mineral streak on the finish along with some tobacco. Very good again. 93 points
Day 2: To say there is good bottle variation might be an understatement with this wine. 2 bottles with that Cayuse funk and 2 bottles more in the Napa high end style. Blueberries, minerals, cherry, boysenberries, soy, tobacco and earth. Medium plus finish. This buries anything under $30 in a long time. 94 points
Recommendation: $27.99 at WTSO might be the easiest purchase since the Davenport Cellars deals.

  • WTSO Recent Wines; 3/1/2022-4/16/2022: Day 1: Holy Sh..! First bottle bringing the funk. Second bottle cross between Napa/Bordeaux and this bottle to the first bottle form bringing the FUNK! Think Cayuse without the olive character. Funk, minerals, spice, blueberries and dust. Hard to describe how good this is for $27.99. Lisa P. B. you got this one wrong and good luck on your new venture. 95 points
Day 2: A little less of the funk and reveals pepper, minerals, spice, cigar box, dust, earth and gravel. This is a transforming wine and one of the more interesting wines of the last 4 or 5 years. 94 points

  • WTSO Recent Wines; 3/1/2022-4/16/2022: Day 1: The first bottle was off the charts. This bottle is a completely different experience but equally likeable. Cassis, minerals, stone, roasted chestnuts, spice, blueberries and graphite. Kind of a hybrid between Bordeaux and Napa Valley. How this is only $27.99 at WTSO is beyond me but I am buying a case. 94 points
Day 2: Again this is not the same experience and lacks that funk but great wine. Cassis, minerals, blueberries, graphite, dust, earth and gravel. Amazing stuff! 94 points
Recommendation: Normally I don't say BUY but this is an exception! $27.99 on WTSO.

  • WTSO Recent Wines; 3/1/2022-4/16/2022: Day 1: Every now and then you get a wine that is polarizing and this is it. Dark purple and perfect cork. The funk on this wine is off the charts in a good way. Funk, blueberries, cigar, spice, minerals, dust, rose petals and pepper. The concentration on the finish is dense. Medium plus finish and nice acidity. This is my new favorite wine of the year. 94 points
Day 2: Most anticipated day 2 experience of the year. It is again outstanding while a bit different. The amazing funk nose and palate has soften but this wine now reveals: Blueberries, minerals, dark chocolate, tar, spice, black pepper and forest floor. Picks up some menthol on this concentrated medium plus finish. Equally as good and hard to save any for day 3 but I will. 94 points.
Day 3: Wow still great and an experience. Dark chocolate, dust, earth, black pepper, blue currants, cigar and tar. Flavorful to the max and balanced wine. Medium to long finish. Outstanding. 94+ points
Recommendation: This is my wine of the year so far and for $27.99 at WTSO you can't go wrong.

THREEDAY-APRIL code that will work through April 18 on any wines on the site. $10 off $50 or more.
