Relativ lys gul farge. Lukt av sitrus, med litt smør. Rund og behagelig i munnen. Litt toast. Mange fine små bobler. Akkurat passe med syre. En god champagne.

(Disgorged in April 2004, base year 1999, approx 55% Pinot Noir, 5% Meunier and 40% Chardonnay) Lemon citrus flowers, fruity apples and baked bread at first and opens up with a maturing nose showing vanilla toffee, cream and hints of hazelnut in a delicious way. Still with a refreshing and focused acidity showing red apples, lemon citrus notes and some cream on the mid with a delicious lime zest bitterness on the pleasant finish. (Still very youthful and refreshing with almost 20 years extra cellaring)

Honestly, though this was a cava. The amount of rubber and pear on the nose sent me dead wrong on this one.
Some yellow fruit on the palate, but not enough lees compared to other champagnes at this price point. Hope to be surprised by this producer later, but not a great first impression.
Hoping this was a bottle error given the amount of reviews on this N.V.

I'm not sure if this was an older bottle, it was bought as a bin-end, but this tasted wonderfully mature - it was all cooked apple, yeast and all nutty on the finish. Everything was so harmonious and rich. An absolute treat. I see the Wine Society have it for around £35 a bottle which sound like a bargain. Seriously this is one of the best NV champagnes I've had in ages.
Light lemon colour. Pear, toast, lemon, minerals, cheese, brioche, ripe green apples and stone on the nose. Taste of pear, lemon, toast, ripe green apples, stones, minerals and cheese. Small bubbles. Long and dry finish with hints of lemons and minerals. Balanced acidity. A good NV. Goes well as an aperitif, or with shellfish.

Puckery acidity, and notes of McIntosh apple and grapefruit set the tone early. Hints of toasted brioche and smoke weave in, lingering on the medium finish. Not long on complexity, but as others have mentioned there's a welcome sense of classicism drinking this with a wedge of Comte.

Pale; vigorous bead. Strong pear and lime aroma, sweetly acidic and slightly musky. Similar taste, quite rich - high dosage or ripe fruit? A bit of minerality and fruit skin approaching bitterness. Pretty good, if standard. The next day, the nose is if anything better, fruit exchanged for a mature creamy nuttiness; the taste is quite sweet with a note of something like nashi pear. [Cork + cage; 12% abv; Beer Zoo, Dunbar, £36].

We've now had this out of magnum, bottle and half in the past few days, and frankly it's shown equally well in all three formats - fresh, tangy, a decent amount of dosage - a nice big mouthful.

Medium yellow with reflections of gold. This was MY Champagne back in the early days of my career, circa 2007 or 2008. And while not the most interesting or detailed, it brims with with classicism. Deep and rich on the nose, it offers aromas of dried yellow fruits, fruitcake, brioche toast and roasted hazelnuts. Medium to full bodied on the palate with medium+ acidity that feels slightly sharp and is balanced more by the dosage than anything else. Part of me wonders just how ripe the fruit is here but part of me just appreciates the old school style.

2013 Barolo tasting at 67PM: Generous, toasty house-style of champagne. Green and citrus fruit that displayed greenness despite the sweet nature of the wine. Not the most finessed champagne.

(Disgorged in fall of 2022, base year 2018 with 30% reserves, approx. 45% Pinot Noir, 5% Meunier and 50% Chardonnay, dosage 7-8 gr/L) Light yellow colour with a youthful nose showing yellow apples, baked bread, citrus and minerals in a pleasant way. Distinct and pleasant bitterness on the youthful palate going into yellow apples acidity and with a lengthy finish showing an intensity. (Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Monthly Tasting Group: Rhones (Noyes and Cutler, St. Paul, MN): Another excellent showing tonight. Very similar to the NV Charles Heidsieck we drank side by side. Both were very nicely toasted, excellent weight and concentration, with green apple and orchard fruits. I think the edge goes to the Henriot tonight by a smidge carried by the sea breeze notes. Both excellent values and consistent performers.

A rounded and quite rich champagne - smooth and soft flavours of cooked apple, honey and brioche. Really quite nice although it feels a little low in acidity for me. Bottle disgorged mid-2021.

Tasted multiple times with consistent notes. Very light gold in the glass. The nose is very pure and delicate with orchard fruits, lemon curd, brioche and apple blossom wafting up. The palate is fresh and racy with a really fine mousse, decent fruit definition and fine-drawn acidity through the crisp finish. An NV cuvée of considerable class and interest.

[Vinum Maisons & Domaines Henriot Tasting] Lower acid compared to the '08 Millesime. Simpler and sweeter (higher dosage?). Apple cider, slight tartness on finish. Decent for a NV big house styled Champagne, but doesn't have any character.

Light gold color. Drank 2 glasses over 2 hours. This bottle had an additional 4 years of cellar time. This was really showing well today, similar to a bottle from January. This had that gorgeous sea breeze nose, medium toast, yeast, lemon and brioche. The palate is lifted and very bright, pear, lemon, toast, limestone, brioche, long and elegant. Loved it, and it reminds me to keep some on hand. 92+pts.

I have never really understood the excitement attached to Henriot. Stylistically quite rich and full bodies. Perfectly well put together but, today at least, lacking excitement or character.

Pinot/Chard, splash of 5% Meunier. 3 years on lees. 7 g/l. Medium plus nose shows brioche, lemon zest, fresh mushroom, lemon zest, cream cheese, white flowers. Palate is medium bodied, crisp but has a roundness as well, nice complexities in the fruit tones, layers of the fresh earth, mushroom, lees notes. Finish holds nicely at medium plus. Subtle and tasty.

(Disgorged in early 1980’s, 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, dosage approx 12 gr/L) Cork coming out with the lovely psscht sound showing some pressure left in the bottle that keeps it fresh Lovely golden yellow colour and with a maturing nose showing butterscotch, caramel and minerals at first and opens up with a refreshing lime citrus note in a very pleasant way. Nice and refreshing with lime citrus acidity on the palate combined with butter and caramel before the lengthy finish showing a pleasant bitterness. This was an excellent bottle that was singing this afternoon! (Still drinking very well with 35 years in the cellar)

Return to Napa; 3/6/2022-3/13/2022 (Wineries and various restaurants): Every tasting should start with champagne. It’s a nice way to refresh the palate and especially helpful if it’s the third of three visits for the day. It’s kindof just your standard basic bubbles but tasty nonetheless

Retail $45. 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier. I have not had a ton of Henriot, but what I have tried has been fantastic. This is their entry level champagne, if there is such a thing, and it is quite lovely, particularly since I think this bottle has some age on it (the cork did not expand after extraction). Not much fruit other than some citrus, but plenty of yeast and wet rock on the palate with a nice level of acidity and a lengthy finish. Nice.
Tiny bubbles which all seem to congregate on my lips and tongue; bright acidity; lightweight in body; apple with ginger ale notes with touches of darkness. Ends with a satisfying dark taste on the finish. Very Good.
This was a K&L Champagne Club selection. Most are unremarkable but this one is a standout and I’d buy again. I noticed that I had a 2 TN from 2006 on this wine and liked it back then too.

This is just what it is supposed to be -- a relatively inexpensive, tasty, easily drinkable champagne, perfect for parties. Moderate acidity, slightly rounded, but still at the more refined end of the champagne spectrum.

Medium intense nose of biscuits, red apple skin, fresh cream cheese. A hint of hay.
On the palate - green apple, red apple.
Medium body, medium minus alcohol, medium plus acid. Clean and bright finish.
Pretty solid entry level champagne. It has strong autolytic notes for people who prefer more of a yeasty champagne. Stylistically similar to Bollinger.

Color: light gold Nose: bread crust, butter popcorn, apple, lemon, almond Palate: excellently crisp. High acidity, dosage appears medium. Body medium, i get lots of mallard with bread crust and pie crust. Lemon and a surprising pear note. Not thick at all, and in that way a food champagne Finish: respectable medium
Lean and crisp; very maillardy with some pear notes that are intriguing. Very food friendly. A solid bottle

Henriot often flies under the radar and I get it, there are so many options out there...but don’t sleep on this house. This, their most modest offering, delivers immense pleasure for the price. A near 50/50 blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir (I guess they use 5% Pinot Meunier) the Brut Souverain displays well ripened pears, lightly roasted nuts, slightly burned brioche and a kiss of citrus. The texture is rich and creamy. The finish is long and satisfying. No disgorgement data. While there is a code on the back, I was social and wasn’t going to give myself the brain damage to decode that mess.
Charge print is 2018 and cork size confirms somewhat 3-4 years cellar aging...
At first a still quite yeasty bouquet... Initially a bit austere and borderline bitter...
Given a few hours of aeration it opened up... You can detect aged gooseberry flavours and a very intense smokey nose. This reminds me of some aged Riesling even though the body is not as creamy.
Acidity is very nice and still quite intense.
So this means this can easily age for a while more. The smokey note is very cool I like it. But otherwise not a lot going on beside and unfortunately I am not the biggest fan of gooseberry flavours.
But solid stuff more fun than a Laurent Perrier La Cuvee.

Right up my alley. Mineral, very dry and strict. Initially a bit austere this really blossomed with air and temperature. Flavourful, structured, nice yeastyness and good persistence. An understated bottledesign with a noble champagne inside. Should improve with some bottle age.

Agree with the recent notes on this. This is a perfectly fine and enjoyable, light, crisp Champagne for summer sipping. Not a ton of complexity and also not the rapier cut of the more acidic grower champagnes, but enjoyable. For my money not a rebuy, but would happily drink if offered.

Nothing overly special It’s a light champagne, as far as these go The style is light and austere rather than rich If you serve it too cold, you lose everything in terms of the aroma. It should be served only slightly cooler than room temperature.
Medium aromas of biscuits, followed by lighter aromas of orchard fruits, white flowers, lemon pith.
Medium length High acid Dry to bone dry It is a crisp champagne rather than a heady, voluptuous one. This is definitely not a Bollinger!

Light gold color. Split bottle over 2 hours. Really enjoyed this again. This a very solid NV year in and year out. The current version offers a good dose of yeastiness, light toast, dough, green orchard fruits, also more pear on this bottle, mid weight plus, good minerality and quite crisp. Nice value too when nabbed around 31. I'll doubleback if I see more.

A good Henirot that we purchased over 10 years ago so I am guessing that the base is circa 07. And it shows some of the 07 characteristics. Clean and floral, it has not got the depth and the complexity even for a NV. Certainly, there were some brioche and toastiness on the palate but quite singular. I am surprised that it has lasted over 10 years so very pleased that it is still highly drianlable.

(Disgorged in the early 1980’s, 55% Pinot Noir and 45% Chardonnay, dosage approx 12 gr/l) Golden yellow colour and with a nice pressure left giving a nice sparkle in the mouth. Lovely dried fruit, minerals, burnt sugar and smooth honey on the mature nose. Palate is equally delicious with a smooth red apples acidity combined with some dried fruit on the mid to late opening up with a nice lemon zest bitterness that lasts forever. This was a very well showing bottle that matched tonights pasta with scallops perfectly.

Very pale yellow with plentiful tiny bubbles. Yeast, citrus, and melon with hints of exotic fruit (kiwi?) on the nose. Light body, refreshing. Brioche, lime, a hint of grapefruit on the palate. Medium-high acid yielding a refreshing quaff on a warm spring evening. Much better than Henriot’s blanc de blanc. Good value. Alcohol 12%.

Medium yellow with reflections of gold. An appealing and very classic nose offers aromas of dried yellow apple, fresh pear, lemon curd, cherries jubilee, white flowers, freshly baked biscuits and chalky minerality. Medium+ bodied on the palate, with medium+ acidity this is a touch sharper than the nose suggests with lively flavors of green apples, toast and chalk. I drank this a lot about twelve years ago, nice to see it good form, if a touch drier than I remember it.

Nice notes of brioche, caramel and nuttiness on the start. The entry of this was brioche and creme brulee and more oxidative although a nice lemon tart and reductive type finish is ever present. This champers IMO was way better closer to room temp than straight out of the bucket. Not a bad entry champers from Henriot but I still think the Charles Heidsieck beats it out pretty handily.

no disgorgement date but this feels young that the acidity may need more flesh and development to be balanced out. No doubt elegant, stylish, mineral, long, and very dry, with well-measured yeast notes. Somehow reminds me of high quality Cava, even though i've had few Cava with acidity as high.

By the glass - twice within the hour one at 28-50 and one at La Trompette. First slightly colder which made for a more zingy experience albeit with notable body suggesting a high amount of reserve wines used to me? Second a bit more warm and that sample didn’t quite have the depth as first sample despite being served warmer (base vintage variation?) but also showed formidable. Convincing both times, first 91 then 90.

A private dinner (Restaurant Allemansgeest, Voorschoten, the Netherlands): Consistently one of the top Grande Marque NV’s on the market, on a par with the Pol Roger. It’s a good thing that the grower champagne fundamentalists disparage wines like these - all the more is left for sensible people. This is a beautifully made wine, complex, harmonious and beautifully balanced, brioche and spice and citrus, intense and elegant, very good length. It doesn’t make you a Donald Trump if you understand the value of The Art of the Blend.

Not bad but this bottle seemed a bit past it. The straight cork suggested that this is quite an old bottling. While I can say that this is no reflection on the wine itself, I must point out that it IS a reflection on the Champagne house as there's no disgorgement date on that back label.

Pnp. Pours a straw golden color in the glass. Frothy mousse and fine perlage. Nose and palate show rich yeast, dark toast, lemon confit, red apples, Bartlett pears and chalky mineralité. Midpalate shows medium bodied orchard fruits propped up by round acidity and fine minerals. Finish is medium (+) showing rich yeasty/breadiness interlaced with streaky acid to drive it to a clean and fine finish. Very nice.

A blend of Chardonnay (50%), Pinot Noir (45%) and Pinot Meunier (5%). The base wine here is from the vintage 2013, aged for 3-4 years on the lees, disgorged in September 2017. 7 g/l dosage.
Pale green color. Somewhat subtle and fine-tuned nose with gentle aromas of green apples, some light autolytic toast, light citrus zest brightness and a hint of vague spiciness. The wine feels ripe yet very acid-driven on the palate with juicy flavors of yellow apples, some spicy Pinosity, a little bit of something waxy, a hint of autolytic yeast bread and a touch of stony and chalky minerality turning a bit towards bitterness. The acidity is moderately high and the mousse feels fine and creamy with moderately long persistence. The finish is ripe and even slightly sweet with quite long flavors of ripe and slightly spicy red apple, some stony minerality, a little bit of sweet white peach, a hint of steely minerality and a touch of tart red fruits.
A very fine and balanced NV Champ. There are a lot of nuances here and the balance between the ripe - even slightly sweet - fruit and the acidity is terrific. Overall the wine is still quite primary and perhaps lacking a bit character - there isn't much here to distinguish this wine from the myriads of other entry-level NVs - but I can imagine the wine could gain some additional depth and complexity with some bottle age. Priced more or less according to its quality at 42,40€, but I'd perhaps look for more interesting grower Champs at that price.

It has been sleeping in my cellar since February 2013. Bought during my flight back from Seoul. No reason why. Still giant bubbles. Yeasty no more. Elegant aroma of brioche from bakery, dried hay and candied citrus. Quite good. On the palate perfectly balanced between acidity and bitterness. Slightly dry but with a sweet touch. Maybe not my kind of champagne but I've to recognise this is well-aged. Can't think anything better to pair this bottle than jamón Joselito and a dozen of raw oysters.
Bastante buena.

By the glass courtesy of BA at 35k feet LHR > JFK. Fresh bottle. Not sure if it was the improved glassware of BA ( finally) that made the difference from a month ago ( Papies 88) or our festive mood. But definitely this felt a lot better. Open , aromatic , full on brioche, yeasty, ripe fruits and with a decent weight on the palate. Definitely the nose is the highlight here and this would make a great aperitif for the lovers of rich champagnes. 91

This was the wine with which we officially opened the first training of a newly opened restaurant in Singapore - Wakanui Grill Dining (and I'm the somm there!). More about the upcoming experiences in my next posts. Henriot's Chardonnay-dominated Champagne snatched me with its enticing aromas that could be smelt from the serving table where the glasses were placed. Notes of biscuit, brioche, vanilla and lemon pie. Medium-bodied with a typical high acidity that gets your jaws clenching in awe. Chalky-mineral finish complemented by subtle tones of fresh lime zest.

A private lunch (Restaurant Librije's Zusje **, Amsterdam, NL): An almost equal blend of Côte des Blancs Chardonnay and Montagne de Reims Pinot Noir, with a touch of Pinot Meunier, 20% vin de réserve, approximately three years sur lattes, dosage < 9 gr/l. Balanced and harmonious, elegant and refined, fresh and floral, hints of crème patissière and almond, clean finish. This bottle seems a little more characterised by the Chardonnay than some of the other ones I've had.

By the glass at the BA lounge, fresh bottle. bery much a good straight forward NV , more an aperitif, good and bright and with good minerality. Interesting but in no way a stand out champagne. 88

Tasting. Brief note. PnP. Very yeasty in an overproofed-dough way. Touch of funky sulfur that blew off with some time. Crisp golden orchard apples, rich and buttery brioche, ripe meyer lemon, nutmeg baked apples and nice chalky minerality on the medium finish. Quite nice.

light straw color, persistent bead with nice lift. Nose some initial yeasty funk that recedes with time -- still pleasant, interesting nose overall. Palate: off-dry, pleasing to drink, crisp with nice acidity, slightest richness. Goes well with food. 90 pts

This was purchased yesterday and consumed today. It was quite delicious, showing heavy notes of toast points and lemon-lime goodness on the nose and palate, with a slight sweetness on the long finish, from the dosage. Quite tasty, drink now through 2022+.

Wanna "Heroic Vineyards"? Visit Lebanon; 6/14/2017-6/18/2017 (Beirut - Lebanon): Flying over mediterranean sea at 33 k feet. Cereals and citrus predominate on the nose refreshesing the upper palate but stays a bit short IMHO. I hope the bottle that I have in my cellar since January 2013 will offer some complexity, not only good aromas, for next Christmas. Dosage 9 g/l.

Very clear lemon-green color, medium depth, very fine bubbles. With some swirling, the initial impression of pure Chardonnay fruit gives way to a more complex nose of citrus, yeast, green apples, and red berries. Balanced and clean on the palate, just a hint of sweetness, with musky/smoky notes vaguely reminiscent of Dom Pérignon. I have a tendency to over-score the first glass of the evening, particularly Champagne, but this really is a very nice showing. Nicely paired with nduja and mild chevre. 12% abv. By the glass at Pops.

Balanced and elegant with overt grapefruit flavors and light autolytic character. Takes on a more leesy and mineral character as it opens up. Suspect a year or two of cellaring would pay dividends, but it's a more than fine tipple now.

Clear light yellow. The nose was not very intense. Lemon, apple and a bit of yeast. Delicious yeasty bread dough and citrus flavvours and some very nice texture in the finish.

Comparing to the other 27 champagnes, this was a bakery with boat loads of yeast and sourdough, slight earthy note. Maybe they stir/shake the lees? If you like autolosis, this is it. Based on my other notes, this could be botle variation, or it was a bottle that has sat around on the shelf for a while.

Disgorged in 2013. Like a Ch.Heidsieck light - nice toasty, creamy notes but with a lighter body. Liked it a lot. Retains its clean freshness but has some substantial complexity for a NV.

Bought this in Reims. (Slightly uninspired choice as I've had this before.) Good QPR but I prefer the bdb which has a higher proportion of reserve wine.

Always a pleasurable and dependable Champagne, from a great house. Nose is clean and fine, airy and perfumed, with stone fruits, flowers and apples. Crispy acidity, good length and very fresh. Simply superb, and one of the best in this class.

I first tried this in November 2015 and didn't like it. I picked up another bottle to try it again after a couple friends said they really enjoyed Henriot.
Straw colored with lots of yeast on the nose. Tastes of yeast and wet hay. Tastes very sweet for 8 g/l of dosage.
I don't like it.

I served this in my wine course. Decent nose of hazelnut, pear and yeasty brioche. Relatively rich mid palate with a continuation of the pear. Some citrus rind as well, especially in the finish. Fairly rough mousse. Great QPR.

Brisk acidity, somehow both concentrated and mild (in flavor) at the same time, showing notes of white flowers, citrus pith, and green apples. I can see what inspired previous notes of almonds, but probably wouldn't have gotten there myself.

PnP like you do with Champagne. Pale golden straw colour. Toasty yeasty pear and apple on the nose. Brioche apple like curd and finger on the palate. Nice depth and roundness along with freshness. Went really well with Indian food.

Not bad but i expected more. Nose is subdued but elegant with some yeastiness and citrus. However, there is an element of slight bitterness that is corrisponded in the palate. The mouthfeel is characterized by a rough effervecence that i didn't like and some yeasty, mineral and lime notes. The finish is not quite persistent enough. For me it lacks character, roundness and finesse.

(Disgorged in 2013) Fresh and intensely peachy on the nose, lively and juicy, good substance. Interestingly I didn't feel any oak in this bottle, while it was quite prominent a year ago, must be the differences in blends disgorged on different dates.

Showing very well for a brut; maybe 1 or 2 years age on this and none the worse for it. Medium body, good richness, medium yeasty, not overdosed but still quite clean, long finish. Classic, nothing extraordinary, but good value.

Opened by friends to start the evening. I haven't tasted this in quite a while but have typically enjoyed it very much. Notes of stone, almond and white flowers with orchard fruit underneath. Stone and almond on the palate. Fine bead with softened acidity. Peach blossom qualities later on. I expected more from this. A current release, I'd hold it and hope for some depth and complexity but as a pop & pour, I am less impressed.

A private lunch (Restaurant FG Food Labs *, Rotterdam, NL): I do not know the base vintage here, but I am assuming it's 2010. A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, 30% vin de réserve. Stylish, intense, floral, expressive, clean, precise, citrus fruit, very good length.

A blend of Pinot Noir (60%) and Chardonnay (40%) with a hint of Pinot Meunier with 15-20% reserve wines. Aged for 2-3 years on the lees before disgorgement.
Quite pale lime green color. Somewhat light and rather simple nose with mainly citrus-driven fruit notes along with some nuttiness and hints of yeasty character of spice. The wine feels ripe and balanced on the palate with dry flavors of ripe yellow fruits, assorted citrus fruits, some yeasty French bread, a hint of nutty autolysis and a touch of mineral bitterness. The wine is moderately high in acidity with smooth, creamy and moderately long mousse. The finish is quite long, dry and mineral with bright acidity and refreshing flavors of ripe citrus fruits, some yeasty leesiness, a little bit of yellow apples, a hint of toasted bread and a touch of stony minerality.
A nicely balanced and structured little NV. Doesn't show that much of character or complexity, but I guess that isn't really expected from an entry-level Champagne. At least there is some fruit, nice minerality and a hint of autolysis, so this isn't just your mundane one-note Champagne that is overperformed by a 15€ sparkling wine. Drinking well now, but I guess some 2-4 years in a cellar couldn't hurt this wine - perhaps it would gain some welcome complexity with age?

Past experience had led me to think this was a step ahead of the Delamotte Brut NV. Now it seems a step behind. Can Champagne be boring, or am I simply jaded? A decent foil for salmon roe on buttered toast rounds, but alone, just a generic white wine with fizz. No particular flaw, but no character either.

Pours a rich light to medium golden color. Intense aromas of toast, smoke, baked pear, and oak. Full on the palate, with flavors of Fuji apple, buttered toast, light melon, oak, closing with touches of lemon peel and flower blossom. Decent entry Champagne but was hoping for more.

Light straw, with a tiny, active bead, and supple mousse. Attractive aromas and flavors of green apples, lemons, quince, biscuits, and a pleasant whiff of sulfur. Light gold in color, with a moderate amount of bubbles. On the lighter side of medium-bodied, and showing a mild toastiness that I like without coming across as frankly yeasty (which I typically don't enjoy). Clean and approachable. I don't expect it would stand up to more substantial food or thrill on it's own, but it did a nice job as an accompaniment to light hors d'oeuvres.

I'd mark this significantly below consensus on CT so I won't give a number here. Vey intense nose- yeasty, rubbery, sulphurous- a hint of old trainers. I thought it was an off bottle, but the second bottle was identical. Some of the flavours diminished 30mins after opening. Drinkable, but not the treat I expected from the 159 other tasting notes here.

Delightful wine, golden colour, nose and palate wnotes of ripe apples, autumn leaves w a little minerals, toffee and lingers for a loooong time. Ripe, rich, fair amount of body. Air it and enjoy it even more. Acidity is not that focussed and mousse is a little too sluggish - those factors slightly mar the experience, but this is a wonderful wine anyway. Top notch craftsmanship. Will work really well with almost any kind of food, as an aperitif it is nice but needs food to make it justice. I had a half-bottle that was stored a couple of years, probably making the wine mature a little sooner than in the full bottle. In a magnum, I suppose you could store this wine for at least a decade and enjoy the improvement.

Thursday Night at Chris' (Chris' House): Popped and poured, followed over about an hour. Served single blind along side the Clouet. Some moderate bubbles at first, however, this became flat within 20 minutes or so. On the nose, some citrus, mineral, green apple skins, aerosol (CO2) and matchstick (sulphur). On the palate, some citrus and light chalky tannin, showing moderate sweetness. Finish is moderate. Despite being quite acidic, this lacked freshness and overall was quite unimpressive. This was borderline flawed in my opinion.

Current favorite for "everyday" champagne. Reminds of the duval-leroy in the early naughts. Solid value. Restrained, well balanced, healthy mousse, well behaved bubbles. Plenty to like here. Told these grapes are grown in the middle of premier and grand cru vineyards, but as they mix cannot label as such. No it's not Krug but a delicate elegant sub at a tenth of the price.

Nice. Good structure careful attention to detail. Unfortunate comparison to 30 lees aged vintage cava. Yet at a business dinner wld always go with henriot one of my fav champagnes
One of the best buys among the Grandes Marques. Pale lemon with fine bubbles. Dry toasty, with some stone fruit notes. Vinous at the finish. Good grip and acid. Leaner style (more Heidsieck then Bollinger), but well-balanced. Brought in 2010, the base vintage is 2005 here, and the assemblage typically 45% Chardonnay and 55% Pinot Noir and Meunier. Reserve wines account for 30% of the blend, and the wine spends three years on its lees. Probably won't improve much.

Paleish yellow color with lots of small bubbles. Fresh, clean nose of lemon, sea shells and some stylish vanilla toast. Sharp but gentle, mid length mouthfilling mousse. Quite fruit forward flavor profile of ripe, fresh citrus, some apple, minerals and a hint of toast. Medium bodied with medium length but full flavored, this is an extremely enjoyable and drinkable wine that displays distinct Chardonnay elegance together with darker notes on the finish. Not especially complex but fresh, lively and well balanced, making it one of the better big house NV Champagnes.

Strong opening with bright green apple and lemon zest with a yeasty musk. The flavors on the mouth are similar with notes of ginger and brioche held up by stiff minerals and really acidic backbone that leaves a medium to long finish. Hopefully with some air this funky smell will blow off. I suspect that this NV Henriot will age nicely for many more years. Very much a power house at a qpr price. I'll be acquiring a couple more bottles and use it in comparison with the major Marques of Reims. This was drunk from a large chardonnay glass, which IMHO greatly emphasizes the nuances of Champagne.

Bottle seems to have a new label now. Apparently they don't divulge disgorgement date but I understand from the rep that this juice stays on the lees at least 3 years, and 3-5 on BdB. Pinot and chardonnay here (no meunier because they don't believe it ages well), and they believe chardonnay adds a mineral quality. As usual, I like the balance on this, solid for an NV. 90-91+

Yellow gold. The nose shows tons of yeast and brioche notes along with some light apricot aromatics. Light to medium bodied with layers of fruit. Apples and pears then richer stone fruit as it moves to the back of the palate. This is balanced and strung together by a nervous, focused acidic backbone. The finish boasts a stony, Chablis-like minerality. 60% Pinot Noir 40% Chardonnay.

Pale straw with fine, fast moving bubbles. The aromas are initially citrussy but with time in the glass the nose becomes rounder with a nice freshly baked brioche characteristic. Bright and fresh with a lovely sharp, clean feeling, the fruit is slightly red-berry like with a hint of vanilla on the finish.

Great nose with hints of citrus and green apple not at all overtaken by the typical baked bread notes. Palate was well balanced. This is a young Champagne with nice grip structure, good intensity of flavors. The finish was also quite good. Just like the N.V. Roederer (Premier) this is a fantastic value, worth cellaring for a few years if you have a low cost of storage.

Delightful, light gold, persistent mousse. Descendant flavour profile consisting of almonds, lemon curd, tangerine, and butterscotch. Absolutely lovely and great PQR. Enjoyed with Thai shrimp satays, delicious and recommended. My go to champers for summer of '11.

Double Blind Tasting at Kevin's (Kevin's House): Another solid showing of this wine with lemon, chalk, toast and dough. The dough was really evident on the nose but not as much on the palate. I have had really good look with their N.V. offerings over the last few years.

The nose here is really nice, big yeast, cake, sweet apples. Getting a lot of aroma out of the wine. The palate shows slightly sweet apples, green citrus, brioche, with a steely edge leading into the finish. While this tastes nice it's a tough wine, the bubbles were course and the amount of acidity on the finish was nearly unpleasant, feeling sharp. Unbalanced at this point, and served beside the NV Moet & Chandon Brut Imperial, even though this has more to say it just comes across to heavy-handed and unbalanced.

Missing the complexity of the 96 Millesime but has the same general taste profile, with less depth and interest, to the candied/honeyed citrus flavors. Couple it with great acidity and you have a great score under $30.

A910 on cork. Not sure hold this was. Tasted a shade bit on the older side. Slight bit of oxidation. 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. I like this blend. Brioche, green and red apple. Nice tropical peach and nectarine on the mid-palate. The bubbles are light and refined. This becomes a bit simple, with shorter finish. Nice.

Somewhat autolytic nose on this one, but not unappealing, with both bread dough and warm, fresh baked bread. Underneath that warm blanket is apple, talcum powder and floral notes. Very delicate and elegant, with long-lasting flavor and just a touch of sweetness. Very good.

Bouchard / Fèvre / Henriot Tasting (The Wine Cellar Club - Irvine, CA): Very driven and aromatic on the nose with notes of citrus, stones, and smoke. Medium gold. Nose of pie crust, lemons, chalk, and apples. Palate is a bit bitter on this particular bottle. Also lemons, pie crust and chalk. Finish is a bit off and this is classic bottle variation. Normally I give this wine a 90 but as we know with NV you never know what the year or how long it was sitting on a shops shelf.

from a 375 ml. I think this particular bottle has faded - felt a little watered down and papery, with muddied texture and hidden lemon/orange. Bubbles were alive, however, and this was definitely drinkable, but not what it could be.

Clear pale straw core of moderate intensity, moderate mousse and steady stream of medium sized bubbles. Nose is yeasty, bready with some brioche notes. Dry on the palate with excellent mouthfeel (crisp and creamy) and flavours of minerals and yeast of moderate intensity. A small amount of citrus as well with some oxidative notes (not off putting at all - added complexity). Tastes like there's a fair amount of older vintages in it - Classy!!

Masters of Wine Champagne Tasting (San Francisco, CA): Golden color. Fine bubbles. Nice toasty citrus nose. Green apple, citrus zest, and mineral palate. Medium-bodied. Medium-long finish. Slightly sweet, which takes away from the rest of the wine, and also lacking any real wow-factor. Nicely priced – solid QPR. I must admit that I was hoping for a little more based on my excellent experience with vintage Henriot, this is nonetheless a lovely entry label non-vintage.

Pale. Good stream of bubbles. Fresh nose, them an unfortunate smell of washing up liquid (not the glasses). Good mousse, creamy feel then nicely lemon-led fruit, minerality and a crisp finish. Good aperitif and should improve with a year or two. **1/2

60PN, 40C, the Souverain sees a little reserve wine each year to maintain style. Nice combination of stones, minerality and big fruits. Contains some dried fruit with a healthy balance of acidity and a pleasing finish. The mousse is big on the palette, but not over bearing. Worth the $32, I like the style..size and finesse go hand in hand.

champagne night (binny's highland park): nose: nice tart citrus tones strike right off the bat with nuts, smoke, baking spices, and green apples right behind them. Fairly classic henriot nose that is well put together and very balanced. Very aromatic and stands out in the crowd at the tasting
taste: excellent depth for a large house NV with a great medium bodied feel providing tones of baking spices, green apples, and lots of tart citrus tones. Very well balanced with a nice acidic spine
overall: a classic henriot. I'm a big fan of this house, so maybe its a slight bit of bias on my part, but this is a great NV bubbly for under 40. Very well put together and showing off the henriot style very well with great depth to boot

Tasted at Booze. Very decent NV, slightly shading the friendlier but less complex and refined Taittinger Brut Reserve that we also had. A touch of bread and yeast on the nose, which seemed rather closed. Nice fine grained beading on the palate, gently bubbling away. Rather flinty on the palate, with oyster shell and lemon peel flavours, Good persistence and length - long, slightly savoury finish with a beam of mineral. Just a little inbalanced, with rather tart acid, but overall, a good-ish NV with quite a bit of character.

Pours a beautiful pale golden w/ classic mousse and ample effervesence including pin tip streamers that last forever. Strong aromas of doughy citrus and sweet apple. Smells like apple pie. A beautiful balance of green apple and peaches with stonefruit overtones and defined aged tangerine citrus bound together with mild toast and moderate dough essence. The finish is lengthy and very savory. Overall: A more masculine style yet soft and luscious with superb meaty fruit concentration and as complex as a woman should be.

Aroma was quite pleasant, with notes of apples, minerals, peach/melon and some floral components-complex enough to stay interesting. Body was medium with some nice acidity to frame the structure. Tastes similar to nose, but perhaps with more of a dominant green-apple characteristic and less complexity.

January 21, 2008: Shows some honey on the nose but much more minerality and grain than fruit on the palate. An effusive, rather clumsy mousse is evened out by a good, chiseled structure. The long finish brings a lot more minerality -- the chalky note at the end is almost sanguine. It's intriguing, but not really my style.
November 26, 2009 (at 2941 Restaurant): This iteration is better than the last. It's light, clean, refreshingly bracing (like the last one), and toasty, showing lemon and generic citrus notes. There's maybe a little spice in there, too, which matches Thanksgiving-Day apple pie wonderfully. It also shows a better bead and seems more technically sound than the last Henriot I had. So I've bumped up my score.

Wine Crawl 9: New world Chardonnay & Rhône Grenache blends (San Francisco, CA): Strong aroma of burnt toast that is not well integrated; it seems to float above the wine, as a disconnected flavor. Buttery mouthfeel with only fair acidity, probably medium (-), and somewhat large bubbles. There's also a slight burnt rubber flavor, not sure if this is reduction or just too much obvious toasted oak. Even at $30 this is an easy pass for me.

Lemon citrus flowers, fruity apples and baked bread at first and opens up with a maturing nose showing vanilla toffee, cream and hints of hazelnut in a delicious way. Still with a refreshing and focused acidity showing red apples, lemon citrus notes and some cream on the mid with a delicious lime zest bitterness on the pleasant finish.

Light yellow colour with a youthful nose showing yellow apples, baked bread, citrus and minerals in a pleasant way. Distinct and pleasant bitterness on the youthful palate going into yellow apples acidity and with a lengthy finish showing an intensity.
(Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Both were very nicely toasted, excellent weight and concentration, with green apple and orchard fruits. I think the edge goes to the Henriot tonight by a smidge carried by the sea breeze notes. Both excellent values and consistent performers.

Retail $45. 50% Chardonnay, 45% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Meunier. Nice.

Nothing overly special
It’s a light champagne, as far as these go
The style is light and austere rather than rich
If you serve it too cold, you lose everything in terms of the aroma. It should be served only slightly cooler than room temperature.
Medium aromas of biscuits, followed by lighter aromas of orchard fruits, white flowers, lemon pith.
Medium length
High acid
Dry to bone dry
It is a crisp champagne rather than a heady, voluptuous one. This is definitely not a Bollinger!

Old bottle with white paper label. I'm guessing approx 10+ years.
Quite dark in color with only litle mousse left. Fairly clean nutty flavor with a nice evolved complexity. Seems to loose what little liveliness it has left quite quickly in the glass.

Cheap biscuits and lemon fresh nosel. A little baking spicy rounding. Some yeasty depth, but very fresh. Simple pal, dry, bruised golden apple, baking spice, moderate- acid. Green old apple and chalk finish.

Not sure if it was the improved glassware of BA ( finally) that made the difference from a month ago ( Papies 88) or our festive mood. But definitely this felt a lot better. Open , aromatic , full on brioche, yeasty, ripe fruits and with a decent weight on the palate.

Stone and almond on the palate. Fine bead with softened acidity. Peach blossom qualities later on. I expected more from this. A current release, I'd hold it and hope for some depth and complexity but as a pop & pour, I am less impressed.

Slightly sweet, which takes away from the rest of the wine, and also lacking any real wow-factor. Nicely priced – solid QPR. I must admit that I was hoping for a little more based on my excellent experience with vintage Henriot, this is nonetheless a lovely entry label non-vintage.

taste: excellent depth for a large house NV with a great medium bodied feel providing tones of baking spices, green apples, and lots of tart citrus tones. Very well balanced with a nice acidic spine
overall: a classic henriot. I'm a big fan of this house, so maybe its a slight bit of bias on my part, but this is a great NV bubbly for under 40. Very well put together and showing off the henriot style very well with great depth to boot

$42 restaurant list price. Fairly clean and fresh style of Champagne. Lively citrus flavors, with good tension. Down the middle in style - without as much personality as many grower Champagnes I've had lately.

LILA Tasting: Similar style to Piper, only slightly bigger body, little more complex; citrusy mth, nice grapefruit in there; light better lemon-lime fin.; LOTS of frothy bubbles. Good, but lacks structure. Came in 4/6.

$11 by the glass (first pour from the bottle). No formal note. Fresh, clean, fairly straight down the middle, stylistically.

Henriot Champagne tasting with food (Roberts and Speight wine tasting event): With duck and orange pate served on toast brioche. 40% Chardonnay, 60% Pinot Noir. Similar profile to the Blanc Sauverain Brut NV. Citrus, wheat and peaches making an appearance. Slightly creamier and with better balance, mouth feel and a longer finish. Paired remarkably well with the duck pate.

Henriot Champagne tasting with food (Roberts and Speight wine tasting event): Served as an aperitif. 100% Chardonnay (Mesnil sur Oger, Vertus, Chouilly and Trepail). Made with an almost equal blend of Chardonnay grapes grown in 1996, 1998 and 1999. Attractive nose of citrus fruits and wheat. Pleasant but simple palate, if a little too lean. Short to medium finish. Quite unimpressive overall.

Just got this for comparison with the blanc de blancs. Nice but not as creamy.

2001 AIS tasting; transcribing early tasting notes.
Autolysed yeasty character, vanilla, slightly salty, soft, smooth. Bubbles were fine and numerous, but not persistent. I liked it a lot. Wish they specified the date of disgorgement.

Half bottle from the minibar in my hotel room in the Arabella Sheraton Grand in Frankfurt and amazingly still the best NV I've ever had. Textbook Champagne, stylish and serious, brilliant quality.
