A nice showing from Henriot. 100% Chardonnay - 2/3rd sourced from Premier & Grand Cru vineyards in the Cote de Blancs. Nice linear citrus precision with significant toasted notes from both lees ageing and use of reserve wine.

Le Tour de Champagne tasting (Amsterdam, NL): Lovely BdB. 12 crus, 50 to 70% of wines of the year (base vintage), 30 to 50% of reserve wines (including our perpetual reserve) At least 3 years of ageing Dosage < 7g/l. 90-91

Very good NV BdB. Had it for 3 years in cellar which the wine benefits of. Crisp, with good fruit intensity, and medium(+) finish. Drinking wel now, but can be kept for the next 4-5 years. One of my favourite NV BdB.

Shared cooking duties with 5 close buddies each doing a course at our place. Thankfully, Nita helped keep me on track. CV,DM,LI,KB,LS & BB. Super relaxing fun night! I need to buy at least 3 of these to have on hand at all times! As my buddy David observed the 2or 3 NVs are sweet spot for Henriot. At least for our palates. Tonight this was weightlessly fresh, pure with a tasty dallop of fruit, mineral, bread dough and citrus zest. Very satisfying in every way.

(Disgorged in fall of 2022, base year 2016, 100% Chardonnay, dosage 2 gr/L) Light yellow colour with a greenish hue and nose showing incipient maturity with green apples, lime and baked bread and opens up with white chocolate. Pleasant green apples acidity on the youthful palate with a hint of cream hiding underneath that takes cellar time to take more place. Intense lime peel bitterness takes over on the lengthy finish. (Probably best with 3-9 years extra cellaring)

Napa 2023: the quieter version; 2/6/2023-2/11/2023 (Napa/Sonoma California): Starter (and ending) wine at Verite in Sonoma. The winemaker likes Champagne and while I already loved him for what he makes I like him even more because of course Champagne is important in life. This is light and bright and almost a hint lemony and so fresh and just this great palate cleanser. It’s not overly intellectual and honestly you don’t want it to be. You want a wine that is good and that resets things.

Brioche, yeast, salt minerals, green apples, lemon, lime, honeysuckle, hazelnut and cream on the nose. Very fresh and some fruit on the palate. Balanced acidity. Smooth fruity mid tones. Gentle finish. Very good champagne for the price. 91p

Pizza Night Italiano (Matt and Brenda's): Pale gold color. Small glass over 15 minutes. I just got the last pour of this arriving a little late. I can't believe its been 5 years since I had this last. This was lovely, almost sweet on the nose, yeasty, pastry cream and almond lightly toasted, lovely fruit, vibrant and clean.

This might be my first ever Henriot NV BdB. Flat out killer with tremendous intensity, purity, balance and concentration. This checks off everything I’m seeking in BdB. Gorgeous pale gold. Lemon, apple, brioche, mineral, ginger, delivered in tiny energetic pristine little bubbles. Love it! Can’t wait to grab some more. Paid $57, drinks more like $100+.

Lys strågul, litt store bobler i moussen. Ren, frisk duft av granny smith og lett tropiske frukter med ryggrad av lett autolyse.
Stikkende mousse, middels fylde, tørr, frisk syre. Fruktdrevet med primæraromaer av sitron, granny smith og noe lett ubestemmelig tropisk. Lett mineralsk bitterhet i utgangen, litt grapefruktaktig. Bittelitt hint av autolyse.
Enkel champagne. Litt kantete og kjedelig.

Drinking superbly tonight - light gold as it sits in the glass. Orchard fruits, chalk, preserved lemon, dried spice and creamy autolytic notes waft up on the nose. The palate is so classy - excellent attack, stunning mid-palate texture and a wonderful mousse. The acidity is so well balanced and the fruit is rich and well defined. Seamless finish. This is Henriot's calling card and it shows. (Consistent with a number of other bottles).

Generally the same experience as my last bottle. But I’m experiencing a little more depth and a more mature expression this time. A light minerality might be added as well. All leading me to a higher rating this time. A solid 92.

Fresh, light and delicious. Medium+ acidity, but well integrated. It delivers lemon, green apple and a toasty note in the end. The general balance is good and the aftertaste semi long. The depth is quite good as well. A solid performance and a big 91.

Last bottle clearance for C$65+tax. Our impression was fruit sweetness, lemony, maybe some apples, a little light on breadiness / toasty, decent acidity, a little on the simple side for this bottle. Not much richness, short finish. Perhaps its this bottle, there's better champagne for this price

Drank a 375ml bottle. Straw-colored wine. Brioche with hints of lemon on the nose. Fine bubbles, long lasting. A bit of vegetal flavor on the palate, but indistinct, otherwise. Gets a bit sour as it warms up. Okay for the price. 12% alcohol.

Tasty surprise. Light yellow with zesty acidity. Fine mousse bubbles with green apple, wet stone and pear. Linear style and focused- it's a precise champagne that for <$50 over delivers. More chablis styled, it's thoughtful and has a lingering finish. More than what I expected.

Positive surprise. Great balance, perhaps a tad linear however in a positive manner backed by a great acidity. Not too complex, but did not expect that either - for its kind this is just great. Good length.

Youthful and elegant nose showing flint, cream and citrus notes. Palate shows citrus acidity and with a balanced but short finish. These should reward some further post-disgorgement cellaring to open up and to evolve a bit more. (Probably best with 3-12 years of extra cellaring)

No formal notes. This is a very reliable and consistent house Blanc de blanc Champagne. Shared a bottle with a friend tonight, and it was good as always. I do like my NV’s with some ageing, this bottle was probably straight from the vaults, so not yet fully settled and ready perhaps. Still, very satisfying, rich fruit and good balance. (89 – 90+)

Excellent Champagne. I find it to be of a superior quality compared to other BdB at this price point. Fine perlage. Baked apple, guava, chalk with hints of brioche and lemon blossom. On the palate it is delicate, showing brioche and lemon upfront, followed by a chalky finish and slight notes of seashell.

Wine Spectator newbies; 10/18/2018-10/20/2018 (Marriott Marquis): Champagne after a bunch of red wine is hard to beat. There's something nice about getting that freshness and break for the palate. This came across as quite pretty and refined and elegant. Hints of white flowers. I enjoyed it.

Again I have learned that even a non vintage needs time in the cellar to evolve and mature. Having had this from same "batch" about 4 years ago, I have now had a much better wine. More "together" and mature, evolved. Still good acidity and fruit. This is not a great wine but for the 25 euro I paid this is great value.

Medium (-) golden colour. Medium nose with yellow apples, lemon, brioche, toast, honey, wet stone and butter. Medium (+) taste of yellow apples, lemon, brioche, wet stone, honey and chalk. Long and dry finish. High acidity. Medium body. A very good BdB with a good balance between butter and freshness. Drink now or over the next five years, will develop if stored. Goes well as aperitif, or with cured meat or shellfish.

Composed of Chardonnay from the vintage 2012 (60%) and older reserve wines (40%). Aged for 3-4 years on the lees, disgorged in June 2016. 12% alcohol, 7 g/l dosage.
Rather pale lime green color. Fine-tuned and rather high-strung nose with restrained aromas of fresh red apples, some toasty autolysis, a little bit of really fresh greenness and a hint of yeasty leesiness. The wine is fresh, light-bodied and lively on the palate with focused flavors of green apples, some chopped nuts and almonds, a little bit of yeasty autolysis and some brioche character, a hint of chalky minerality and a touch of mealy yellow apples. The wine is very bright and racy with high acidity and the mousse feels very small, creamy and persistent. The finish is balanced, long and mouth-cleansing with savory flavors of steely minerality, green apples, some leesy yeast character, a hint of something vaguely spicy and a touch of nutty autolysis.
A very sophisticated, focused and delicate Blanc de Blancs that is still so very young in style, but which undoubtedly will improve in depth and complexity with some aging. Now the wine is a fine and gastronomic bubbly that will go easily with most lighter entrées and first courses, but with 4-6 more years this wine will have turned into more creamier, hedonistic style. Perhaps a bit pricey for the style now, at 55,30€, but will show better value if cellared for at least a few years more. Nice.

A wonderful surprise in a Blanc de Blancs. A definite fruitiness of yellow apple, some pear, and peach, along with a low profile of toast, yeast, and brioche. A combination that absolutely delights us. A fine mousse, and a bit of creaminess on the finish. Dosage only 8g/L.

Part of a six-pack from late 2015, this has evolved a bit and had a lovely richness . Don't get me wrong, this is not an old/mature wine but the extra time really helps. I should mention that the Henriot 2006 that I tried at the LWF also impressed.

(Disgorged in fall of 2016) Yellow colour with a youthful nose showing minerals, citrus, nuts and cream. Palate shows a wild mousse and an intense citrus acidity with a very creamy and acidic finish. This was feeling too youthful and almost to citrus acidic right now and would benefit from a couple of years of extra cellaring. Best with 4-8 years of extra cellaring.

Pale yellow in color, this wine reveals apricot, white peach, pear and iodine aromas. The mouth feel has abundant mousse, is lighter bodied and brings defined minerals and hints of honey and pear. The finish has bright acidity that frames the orchard fruits in a pleasant fashion.

For the last few years Henriot has been my favorite NM - champagne house. My view has changed across the years - Deutz for awhile - Roederer for awhile. The reality is the variables they all deal with - supply/demand - where their grapes come from and how those grapes fared in the recent vintages as opposed to the other house's, and so. This wine is a wonderfully crisp fruity clean b de b with the essence of chardonnay. No citrus or such - not that this is a bad thing - no brioche and such - also not a bad thing; just a clean chardonnay bubbly.
Back in the day, this wine was called Henriot Souverain blanc. I have some in my cellar purchased 12-14 years ago, They are splendid, as I expect this wine will be with age.

Boxing Day buffet dinner at neighbours - random selection of wines available - minimal note taking. A very mature bottle probably bought in France and thought to be at least 6 and possibly 10+ years old. An old favourite of mine. Once the bottle stink had blown off this was delightful. Delicate, crisp cox apple fruit with a dash of lime zest, mineral spine and integrated acid balance. Excellent, but was probably even better a few years back.

Straw appearance, with green highlights. Elegantly endowed with fresh orchard fruit, honeysuckle, and brioche aromas. Long, deep, and vivid, this is at once dry yet juicy, possessing a fine bead, mouth-watering acidity, and a sleek salinity that frames crisp notes of quince, green apples, and limestone. Fantastic--brioche, biscuity, cookie dough--but very dry, not sweet at all; slight reduction, lovely, balanced, good acidity and long finish. Very nice. Forgot about this little gem. This was just right tonight, maybe the extra year age on it did the trick, or could be the 8 Trappist Ales I just consumed which made my CdP syrupy, but my champers shining.

Composed of Chardonnay from the most recent vintage (60%) and older reserve wines (40%). Aged for 3-4 years on the lees. 12% alcohol, 6 g/l acidity, dosage 9 g/l.
Intense yellow-green color. Rather reductive nose with aromas of gunpowder and smoky character of struck matchsticks. Feels like needs either some breathing or some age. Starts to reveal some aromas of tart white fruits and leesy autolysis, but never really opens up. The wine shows bright and focused bone-dry flavors of fresh red apples, steely minerality, wet stones, some grapefruit-driven citrus fruits and a hint of autolytic brioche. Overall the wine comes across as very racy with its very high acidity, whereas the mousse feels very fines, soft and mellow - but also surprisingly persistent. The finish is dry, somewhat bitter and noticeably mineral with quite lengthy flavors of apple peel bitterness, tart citrus fruits, some chalky minerality, a little bit of steely character and a hint of yeasty leesiness.
A pure, focused and structured Blanc de Blancs that simply feels too young for pleasure. Especially the reductive nose offers very little beyond those subtly smoky characteristics. The wine feels very structured, linear and focused like a laser beam, but showing very little of anything beyond those lean, tangy citrus notes and steely minerality. Now a nice food wine that can cut through fat yet leave enough room for even more delicate flavors, but I guess I prefer a lean Riesling over this style of Blanc de Blancs. I'd leave this wine to develop in a cellar for at least a handful of years, if not longer. Feels a bit pricey for its style at 54,90€.

A private lunch (Restaurant De Librije ***, Zwolle, Netherlands): Decanted and I can see why this procedure is recommended here. A sparkling wine of great elegance, the aromas manage to be both clear, precise and delicate at the same time. Hints of bread crust and nuts are enriched by delicate nuances of apple and honey, a flinty minerality contributes to the balance. The complex aromas come back in the mouth, acidity is above average and the wine is a little bit heavier then other sparkling out there, but it retains a finesse that I found only in the best champagnes. Great experience.

Open nose of apples, white pear and lemon as well as almond cookies, brown sugar, buttered bread and clover. Light to medium bodied and dry - though with fair dosage - palate with mid-level acidity and large loosely-knit moussé. Some appley fruit, butter, hazelnuts, almond cookies and bitter citrusy elements. A gentle and approachable wine delivering instant gratification. Very nice as such, but there's just nothing mesmerizing about this one. I'm happy to drink this when poured, but I won't be buying this to myself.

Medium-light gold color, sparse and very fine bubbles. Yeasty, but generally muted nose of brioche and peanut butter. A bit lifeless and watery on the palate, even quite flabby. Trustworthy provenance, so I'm inclined to think it's just too old. Nevertheless, I find nothing about it that makes me want to try again and belongs on my list of over-priced, overhyped Champers. 3+8+10+4 = 75

2011 Masters of Wine Champagne Tasting (San Francisco, CA): Slightly disappointing. Light yellow color. Nice nose showing a little bit of intriguing musty yeasty funk. Medium-light bodied palate showing apples and a light minerality but falls a bit short mid-palate. Needs more acidity. Medium length finish. Overall, a touch unbalanced and underwhelming; surprising given my previously good experience with other Henriot labels – even the less expensive Brut Souverain is a more polished ensemble.

Henriot Champagne and Bouchard Wine Dinner (Bistro Kirkou, NW Suburbs Chicago): A bit disappointing that this was not as good as the less expensive NV Souverain Brut. Rich and bold. Aromas of mineral, lime, nuts, and baked bread. This is actually some sort of rebranding of the blanc de blanc that I love. The new bottle is called: Henriot Blanc De Blanc Souverain Brut Champagne. Since this is NV, i guess I shouldn't be surprised that it's changed in character. It's still a bummer though. Not at all unpleasant, the doughy, bready goodness I loved is gone. There some fruit and faint apple on the nose. And a touch of fire on teh finish. The core is very bright with a narrow flavor and a hint of bitterness late in the palate.

Light yellow colour with a greenish hue and nose showing incipient maturity with green apples, lime and baked bread and opens up with white chocolate.

Nice.
