Totally digging this. Maturing well with a long life ahead. Light cherry color with a pink rim. The nose is bright and classic with ripe cherry, rose petal and herbal notes. Eucalyptus. Good ripeness. The palate excels. All the flavors in the nose (maybe a bit more floral) in a light to medium bodied package. Weightless but with lovely length. Just super. Pretty. To drink with food and friends. (92+)

Fragrant roses, reticent. Black fruit herbs and a touch of liquorice emerge with air. Beautiful black raspberry fruit on the palate, elegant. Very pure. Relatively light and not the most complex wine but absolutely gorgeous and excellent for the level.

Drunk to accompany duck. Opened 30 minutes before drinking. Light garnet colour. Lovely nose of blackcurrant, leather, chocolate and earthiness. Rich, soft palate, sufficiently mature, tannin evident. Dark berries and oranges. Long finish. Delicious.

Will keep for a while yet, but this is very accessbile at this point. The tannins are nicely integrated and there is a beautiful pure cherry fruit quality to this wine. Really a joy to drink right now.

Half bottle. Opened 45 minutes, not decanted. Light orangey cherry colour. Earthy nose, cherries, marzipan, charcoal. Full bodied, rich, fruit cake, plummy. Good tannins. Quite long. Drinking well now but will surely keep another 5 years.

Et ganske mørkt og modent fruktbilde på duft. Tett og konsentrert i munnen, litt rå tanniner som gir en tørrende utgang. Denne kan trygt lagres i flere år.

Served from half bottle. A late decision, so opened just 20 minutes before tasting. Continued to breathe in glass for an hour. Colour is slightly hazy garnet. On the nose there's strawberries, red fruits, vanilla and cinnamon. Medium bodied, medium length, cherries, smooth. Probably a little young so I'd expect this to continue to improve.

Incredibly closed off, acidic, and astringent initially. An hour in the decanter and a little food made a world of difference. Tart bitter red fruit eventually led into deeper dark yet still very bright fruit accompanied by classic Barolo character of truffles, violets, mineral and soil. Needs 3-5 more years but a nice regional wine.

Energetic and fresh, fine soft tanins, elegance and delicate nose. Still not even close to Monvigliero in 2013, but what a wine. Wait several years if you can

Fantastic wine. Beautiful clarity in the warm red fruit. Lots of spice - anise, clove, cinnamon. Great structure. Not quite up to par with the Monvigliero of the same vintage, but definitely plenty of quality to praise. I will be a buyer.

PnP in Burg glasses and slow ox for 45 minutes prior to dinner of beef stew. Semi translucent ruby color. This is the most classic vintage I've had of this basic blend Barolo cuvee since my first vintage with the 2009s. Balanced to be sure but the first vintage I've opened where it's structure is significantly tamer and more enjoyable with food than without. '9 & '12 were more accessible either way. That's not a complaint just apparently the nature of Burlotto's '13 basic Barolo. I did enjoy it standalone too but the structure melds best with food. Classic aromas of dark berries, roses and hint of leather. Raspberry, tar, licorice, herbs, mineral and again hint of leather on the palate. This has a more classic masculine structure but, not oppressively so. It comes off more serious and brooding than '9 & '12. Might do better with a decant. I have 3 more and likely will wait a minimum of 3 more years before my next btl. Alc 14%. If you have them no problem with trying them early though. 2 hour+ decant might be a fun experiment.

Dark transparent red brown with black tones Excellent dry cherries nose, light acetone notes, truffles hints, Firm tannic NS, excellent balance and harmony, structured, complexed, rich flavors, long finish and aftertaste. Still very young and should she 4-8 years more.

Pop and pour, really scrumptious nose displaying five very clear notes, strawberry jam, cherry compote, cinnamon, anise and iron. Very clean palate, a bit one dimensional and linear, good acidity, strong iron and a medium to long strong iron/mineral driven finish. Very strong but fine tannins at the end. The second night, the fruit remains red but warmer and rounder. The palate becomes softer, less noticeable tannins. It is fascinating to compare this to the 12 and 13 Monvigliero. To be fair, I only had the 13 Monvigliero at the winery just about the same time last year. The 13 Barolo is like a great village Chambolle, pure, clean and delicious for now where the Monvigliero is like a top Bonne Mares, a lot of finesse, beautifully layered, complex and structured. This displays the structure to age gracefully, gaining complexity through the development of tertiary notes.

It's young, but I already knew that and thought "well, at least I can replace this one if I decide to." What I wasn't expecting was a darker, riper fruit profile than I normally see in Burlotto. There's some floral and menthol undertones, and it manages to straddle more elegant and robust profiles pretty well, in a 'not allowed in an NC bathroom' sort of way. It's a lighter-medium bodied wine overall, but with firm grape tannins showing through on the finish. A nice wine.
This was fairly stubborn to open over several hours though not terribly closed. The potential was evident, as it showed a good deal of freshness, tannic grip, and the elegance of Verduno. The dark red fruit was locked up pretty tight, though the concentration seems good and true to the vintage. It all bodes very well for the Acclivi and Monvigliero, which is no secret by now.

We tried the wine from a half bottle - it was elegant with red cherries on the palate and balanced acidity, but seemed a bit muted and lacked complexity. Probably too young to drink now, even from a half bottle - we will keep the rest for a couple years before trying again.

Wonderfully expressive nose of fresh rose petals, cherries, raspberries and earth. It is pure and direct in the mouth with fruit flavours at the cusp of perfect ripeness. It is a detailed wine, with no artifice and engaging savoury nuance. Balance is superb and length good, carried by sweet tannins.

{ winery } A classic Barolo wine. The definition of classic is probably open to interpretation for most - for me, it's not. This medium-bodied wine is tightly coiled at the moment, the tannins are a bit cross, and the acids, well, they've yet to settle in. Scores will probably be low-er for this wine, and maybe even for 2013 Barolo in general for the simple fact that these are less approachable wines, these will need 4-5 years, at least, before they begin to, by most standards, be pleasurable, become enjoyable. That said, I loved it, and left with my normal allotment for the year. And I'll be doing it again in 2014, a vintage the media, etc., have already doomed to inferior quality. Whatever. The more the 'pros' pan things, the greater it's likely that prices may stay reasonable...and with producers like Burlotto, one comes to know the quality is going to be there, no matter what, so why fuss with scores, etc., just buy as much as you can find, something that's harder to do each year, as demand is continually outpacing supply. Thru 2039, highly recommended+
Earthy and savory with meat, olives, marrow, tar and with a sense of minerality. Understated, classic subtle Barolo. Would likely sing with a meat broth pasta.

The nose was gorgeous, showing crushed raspberry, hints of herbs, and dusty spice. On the palate, I found soft textures, lifted by pure red fruits, inner floral tones and light tannin. It was remarkably pure, leading in a long finish with hints of tannin and inner floral tones.
