Opaque ruby red, savory nose, lighter to medium bodied, very brambly, a bit short on the finish. I was worried that this had past its prime, and that may be true as there was little evidence of fruit, yet it was an enjoyable quaff.

Continue to love this producer and their high value entry Barolo. 10yrs later and the nose is perfumed and even more enticing than the palate. Cherry, raspberry with orange rind, rose, tar, wet leaves and mushroom. Med body, elegant, confident, med- acidity and supple med - tannins that have calmed.

This wine is one of the rare ones which Antonio Galloni got wrong. He is without peer for Nebbiolo and Sangiovese wines, but once in a while a wine tasted very young evolves differently than predicted, even by the great palates. In March 2016 Antonio rated it 88 with a drinking window of 2016-2022. Now this (L 13415) seems more like a 91-92 with a drinking widow to 2032. Like the last bottle, this was decanted and served after 90 minutes and continued all evening to open up in the glass. Classic Nebbiolo aromas of tar, bitter orange and black tea, with a nice floral note. Very firm acidity and a big tannic profile that emerged especially after hour three. The wine is aromatic and structured, with a hint of mid-palate sweetness and a wonderful 13.5%. More rustic and tannic than Albe wines from most vintages, it is nevertheless a very good wine. Outstanding QPR.

Decanted and served after 90 minutes, it (13415) continued all evening to open up in the glass. Classic Nebbiolo aromas of tar, bitter orange and black tea, with a nice floral note. Very firm acidity and a fairly big tannic profile. The wine is consistent with the Vajra Albe style of aromatic and structured wines, not extracted, but the 2012 is rougher and less balanced than Albes from most vintages.

Used a bottle to make Barolo Braised Short Ribs over Risotto and drank the other bottle after a 2 hour decant. Went wonderfully with the dinner. Had nice cherry flavors, good acidity and balance with a medium finish. Actually was quite elegant. Nice wine for the price point.

Aromatic even before decanting. Typical rose and tar on the nose. Still some green stems but was improved after 2 hours of decanting. Dried fruit. Needs at least 1-2 additional years in the cellar but is okay now.

Side by side with the 2013 vintage and Marcenasco from Ratti 2012. Like a thinner version of the Marcenasco, albeit a little better put together. Rose hip, hint of menthol and nail polish remover (VA). Okay length but nothing to get too excited about. Acid weak. Last bottle, won't look for more.

The 2012 G.D. Vajra Barolo Albe is all about elegance, balance, and finesse. Orange rind, rose petal, raspberry and anise are some of the nuances that come through on the nose and on the palate the wine is medium-bodied with round tannins. Drinking nicely now.

this wine is very cherry and eucalyptus on the nose and palate, dry with strong tannin, structured, bright tones and high energy, this has amazing cellar potential and delivers beautiful nebbiolo character at a nice price point, best with food; like a Margherita pizza

14.0% - Clear, med to light garnet / clean, pronounced intensity - cherry pit, classic tar notes, dried rose petals, eucalyptus, cigar leaves, black tea / dry, med to high acidity, med+ body, med to high slightly grippy tannin, pronounced intensity, persistent finish. Well balanced and very nice. Surprisingly approachable and enjoyable at this stage even though more cellaring should be rewarding.

Warm, sun ripe red fruit, figs and butterscotch dominates the nose. With time in the glass more floral notes comes through like red rose, violets and sage.
Rather light and one-dimensional on the palate with medium(+) acidity and smooth tannins. Again very ripe, almost cooked, fruit with notes of butterscotch and milk chocolate from the oak. Decent intensity though. This wine lacks that charm and freshness that a lot of 2012 Barolo has. Tasted side by side with the 2013 of the same wine which was clearly the better wine. Drink sooner than later.

This wine has an abundance of tar and tobacco but also notes of roses. The fruit is from raspberries, strawberries and cherries. Tannins are rather fine grained but slightly dry in the finish and the acidity is very presenta and racy. Without food this wine is slightly harsh and very rather traditional. I would expect it to be better day two but it won’t last that long...;)

This is typically a good, moderately priced Barolo and the 2012 does not disappoint. On bouquet, red currants, red cherries, melted road tar, tobacco, with a touch of spice. Fruit forward flavours. Red cherries, plums and soil, with a savoury, creosote edge. Below mid weight with good phenolic grip. Fresh acidity, bone dry. Enjoyable now, I suspect it'll be better in two or three years. For earlier consumption than typical for this cuvée.

Entry level Barolo from this producer. Fresh red berries, hints of coffee and some medicinal notes on the nose. A little thin on the palate, not very complex. The fruit dies in the glass after an hour or so, left is yeast, dust and medicinal scents. Might open up better with some cellar time but I doubt it. Ok wine considering the price, but clearly lacks the depth and complex of a sophisticated Barolo.

Dinner with the Vajra Family (Locanda dell’Arco, Cissone, Cuneo, Italy): [No label on the bottle. Just bottled this Friday (2 days ago). This is the second bottling of this wine. The first bottling was in the summer 2015 at the same time as the bottling of the 2012 Bricco delle Viole.] Really ripe young fruit. Delicious to drink but so clearly in need of time to come together after bottling. Should be an excellent value.
