This old country boy isn't quite sure if he waited a little too long on this wine or not quite long enough. It almost seems young but there is no oak and little tannin but it seems thin and sour. Maybe it will improve over the next couple hours.

Just wonderful again with elegant and distinctive fruit flavors, fresh acidity and fine rounded tannin. What a treat to have access to such delicious wine without a bunch of hype around reviews and points and allocations.

Is this how Zinfandel used to be made? I haven't been around long enough to know the answer to that question but I do know this - this is how Zinfandel should be made. It is honest and balanced and showcases a special bit of terroir that the winemaker has discovered in the family vineyard. It shows intertwined beams of elegant stone fruit, strong round tannin and a beautiful juicy texture. Crazy good.

Zinco De Mayo (Seattle, Washington): This wine clearly held down one far end of the stylistic range of the group of wines we enjoyed for ‘Zinco de Mayo’. It offered an elegant profile with red and black fruit, spices and distinct minerality. Most distinguishing were the peach and nectarine flavors especially on the persistent finish. Most of our drinkers said they would never pick this as a zin in a blind tasting. All agreed that it was delicious.

Tasted over three nights and this wine did nothing but improve as it showed raspberries, blackberries, minerals and spice along with those much discussed stone fruits. This vintage is more deeply fruited than the 03 Shale and definitely has that “Pinot style” thing going on – actually Greenblanket thinks that “Cru Beaujolais style” may say it better because of the smooth mineral palate and out of the box stone fruit flavors and sensations. Much more than just an interesting take on Zinfandel this is really lovely stuff and like good Cru Beaujolais the price is right.
