The wine even lovingly cradled in the cellars of Geranium , Copenhagen didn’t make the journey and was oxidised and gone. The sommelier didn’t even offer it to us to try and just replaced it with the 2002 as this was their last bottle.

Wine was properly stored from purchase at winery upon release until consumed. Takes 30 minutes to develop. Beautiful mature bouquet, burgundian style. Needs to be no colder than cellar temperature to shine.

amber gold; 1st bottle of a case; oxidized characteristics dominate but lacking the acidity that some other old Kistlers have demonstrated to hold these secondary sherry/madeira-like characteristics together so in the pot for chicken braising you go.

Vanilla, peaches, coconut and Pineapple bouquet with a nice element of smoke in the mouth followed by green apple, grapefruit and citrus flavors with hints of honey...decent acidity and dryness followed by caramel and a long pleasant finish.

Golden yellow color. Nose of creme brule, caramel, butterscotch, tropical fruits, and tart green apples. The skins, not the meat of the apple. After a couple of hours, the apple faded away and revealed some coconut. Pallet huge apple, with decent acidic structure and tanginess on the side of the tongue. Moderately long pallet. I'd say these have peaked.

Nice golden color. Butterscotchy bouquet. The wine needed a little time to open up before tasting, but it still was nice full-bodied Chardonnay. I agree this wine is likely past its peak, but it is still very drinkable.

My first tasting of this wine, overall, very positive. I would agree with assessments that this is at it's peak and end of the evolutionary scale. Wonderful nose of lemon and citrus elements, balanced oak and acidity and a long orange citrus finish. I liked this, but I think its' as good as it gets. Drinking well right now.

Uncovered this hidden away in the offsite cellar and couldn't wait to have it. The first taste caught all of us by surprise based on recent tasting notes. First, the wine looked beautiful with hardly a change in color. The nose initially was a bit funky, and the overwhelming sense in the mouth was of sesame. After about 30 minutes of breathing, it opened into a very delicate and pleasing aged Chardonnay. We enjoyed it with cheese, crackers and the US Open.

drank w/ chicken stuffed w/ sausage and goat cheese. Very velvet texture w/ medium to long finish. Nice round flavor, probably right at the end of its life, still a very nice wine right now . Beautiful golden color, flavor included honeydew melon and a tinge of sweet orange peel.

what an outstanding bottle of wine. we consumed at a restaurant and all the waiters just wanted to come by and see the bottle and "examine" the contents. it was just super with tuna and my wife had shell fish and she said it was a super compliment.

Impressive from front to back. Nice bronze color, with a mineral-laden nose of orange peel. The palate is heavier on the lemon, with a nice backbone of acidity and great balance. The finish is long and suave, and that nutty, oaky California kick shows up for the first time. I've never been bowled over by anything from Kistler (save perhaps for a Durell I had awhile back), but wines like this might win me over.

consistently, the 2000 kistler chards have been a disappointment. now, i've stayed away from my precious few cuvee cathleen's, but the others have been rather bland. unfortunately, this is no exception. somewhat depressed fruit, with notes of orange, lime, and lemon; rather a citrusy melange. the finish is short and a little sharp. sadly, not recommended.

The color of this wine is deep straw. The nose has peach, citrus and vanilla aromas but is somewhat closed. The taste reflects flavors of grapefruit, peach and hazelnuts but lacks dimension and depth.
As of July 20th, 2008 the wine has balanced acid, wood, tannin and fruit and is a delicious full bodied Chardonnay. It is approaching its peak and should be consumed over the next year or two.

Awesome. Like a typical Kistler. Lots of mineraliness & earth with additional fruit. Color had a greenish tinge to it. Like what I 1st remember Kistler to be like.

WIML91,WA91,WS91 Tasted October 1, 2005 at an offline so brief comments only. Opened and served immediately in a Riedel Restaurant Series Bordeaux stem. Dark yellow color in the glass, fairly clear hue. No notes on the aromas. Flavors of pears, cream, nutmeg and orange marmalade. OK I guess but I admit bias in that I typically love wines produced from the Dutton Ranch but this one left me wanting. Drink now or maybe hold another year without expecting any improvement. I’d recommend passing myself.

Dinner with family at Lampreia (Seattle, WA, USA): Hazelnut, a hint of custard, a hint of leesy notes. A spicy and deep palate with lush mouthfeel, some butter-brickle. Some hints of citrus and nice acidity coming out on the finish. Wowza, this is really exploding with stunning balance, lemon custard, acid, spice, and viscosity. Gorgeous, the best showing yet.

DeLille Cellars 7th annual Paulee de Woodinville (Woodinville, WA, USA): (**) Very intense butterscotch on the nose with smoke, toast and a hint of ash. On the palate this has really gorgeous texture and surprising acidity. Where was the fruit on this one? Compared to the last bottle I had this one was very wood driven. That said, this was a great, great match with scallop and foie gras on chestnut paste in a seafood nage. Yummy!

Dinner with the Bikel's at Lampreia (Seattle, WA, USA): I brought a bottle of this to McCarthy & Schiering to try and stump folks, but Dan managed to peg the producer, varietal and vintage (with a few answers to yes/no questions). Very impressive... Wow, this was the best Kistler Chard I have ever tasted! The nose is very spicy with copius toasted filbert and spice. The palate is wildly tropical with pineapple and loads of tangy fruit which more than easily stands up to the copious French oak. This has a silky texture with good weight but is fairly lithe on the palate with acidity. Powerful finish. Really nice!
