Fruit, if any, is long gone. Mostly earth and minerals on the nose and palate. Not bad, just bland and weak. Don't know why or where or when I bought it.

Not decanted. Drinking very nicely right now - well-integrated acid and tannins, dark fruit, lots of earthiness. It's hard for me to say how much more life this has, but it was probably my favorite table wine of the evening for current drinking. Yum.

Decanted for about 30 mins. My last bottle of this great wine, and the nose does not disappoint. Rich fruity aromas with a bit of a bacon whiff to the side, very inviting. The palate is also fruity, cherry, with a bit of a leathery taste to it, very nice. Lots of tannins still. Yum, very good! Too bad it's my last bottle. Next it's time to taste a more serious Aglianico with more age on it, and based on this, I can't wait!

A little disappointing. Had a bottle in our favorite Italian resturant a couple of years ago and loved this wine. Bought two bottles then and just had the first bottle. It was good but not great. I suspect that I held it too long.

Popped and poured, allowed to open up in the glass for some 20 minutes. A nice dark red to the rim, some bricking evident. The nose is very expressive and very delicious, with deep red cherry and a bit of barnyard funk. On the palate lots of red cherry as well, with a smokey side taste, bit of a sweet and sour effect with the tannins and acids, very good! Mmm, I like how this is developing. Gotta leave the last bottle for a year or two! 50+5+12+16+8=91

Dragged this bottle all the way to Lima, Peru as a gift to my host. We opened it tonight for dinner, let it breathe in the bottle for about an hour. The colour is a nice dark red with a brown tinge to it. The nose is very expressive, with lots of black fruits and a bit of licorice and kind of raisiny again. On the palate there are lots of tannins, a smokey background to tasty fruits. Can't really find the oatmeal on the nose that I had before, but still very enjoyable. Very good! Still have two bottles left.

After decanting, the nose opened up somewhat with subtle notes of rose petals and spices. There was a distinct lack of fruit on the palate, with a heavy presence of tannins. Decent acidity. Very dry (with all of the tannins). I was disappointed, as it did not offer much character.

Juicy, tasty, fruit forward and slightly too oaky but otherwise appealing table wine. Cherry fruit, and hint of anise/licorice. Not a lot of complexity, though it does have that Aglianico herbal (licorice, bitter roots) flavor on the finish....An acceptable/decent QPR, but nothing extraordinary here. On the flip side, for an inexpensive wine that's been out for over 2 years, it's certainly holding its primary character well.

Decanted for an hour, it's been about a year since I last tasted this. Still very dark purple, almost black. On the nose there are lots of pruny, raisiny smells, but also that whiff of oatmeal. Still heavily tannic, but really nice black fruit on the palate. No raisins here! Still very delicious and enjoyable. 50+4+11+16+8=89

Enjoyed this wine a bit less then previously...seemed a little hot, flabby cooked. Smoothed out though after a bit and that trademark Aglianico tobacco, tar, and smoked dried fruits came out. Just wish it had been a little more intense, but very enjoyable, great qpr, will buy again.

At first this was showing simple yet nicely taut tension between straightforward modern fruit and energetic acids, but as the days wore on this just became all tuckered out, at a rather rapid rate for a young Aglianico-based wine. Drink it sooner rather than later.

ChTR kokous 7.5.2008 (SKO-toimisto): Decanted for an hour. Appearance: dark inky red with a brownish edge (5/5). Nose: again very rich, rasberry jam, but somehow refined, not overpowering, some greeness in the background (12/15). Palate: some tannins, some oak present, but mainly refined red fruits, a bit bitter (15/20). Overall: once again the wine impressed me, especially the aroma, excellent stuff! (8/10)

Popped and poured. Appearance: A dark, inky red, violet on the edges. Looks good and inviting! (5/5). Nose: on opening, oatmeal porridge (!) with rasberry jam. Not a very intense aroma, but opened up after a while. Jammy, rasberry, red berries in general, the smell is smooth and also inviting (12/15). Palate: yummy! This is very smooth and balanced. Fruit is there, but not aggressively, some tannins in evidence, with a nice long finish (15/20). Overall: definitely a nice wine, ready for drinking now, but could perhaps take a year or two in the cellar. I'm getting more of this! (8/10).

A restrained food wine for sure. The nose is quite pretty with red fruit, brown spice and a nice graphite component. The graphite is predominate on the pallet with the red fruit taking a back seat. There are some ok tannins and nice acidity. There is a slight vegetal component as well. Nice wine. Would repeat buy if I did that sort of thing!

Decanted an hour. Dark ruby, but not as opaque or inky as other aglianicos I've tried. A little heat on the nose at first, but it blew off after a decant. Eventually a thick perfume of anise, red berries and pepper, which carries through to the palate. Tannins are present but silky and well integrated. Pepper dominates the medium length finish. This is very impressive and makes me eager to try the one bottle of 2001 Serpico I have lying around. If nothing else, this will be a nice choice to drink over the next five years while I'm waiting for that one. At $18, it's great value, too.

At the tasting, this wine showed well. It was young, big, and brawny. The tell tale licorice and spice component gave away the aglianico grape on the nose. Nice acidity really keeps it alive. Extremely pleasant. 89+
Here's the problem. ON the 2nd day, the palate on this wine just fell apart. It was barely a medicore wine, and not balanced at all. Given my experience with the '02, I'm not sure what is going on. 80-82

Popped and poured and out of the bottle the oak is really pronounced and this is hard to place as aglianico. Not bad but not very interesting either. The next day a lot more character emerges similar to my last note when I decanted for 6 hours. A good wine with air time, but still a too-modern treatment it seems.

Had this last night at Peasant. On the list for $40. This was what I would call a "date wine." It's like someone took a carpenter's plane to an aglianico and smoothed out all the rough edges. The result is a pretty, polished, juicy wine full of berry fruit with a feminine texture that was enjoyed by both my wife and 17-year old daughter. Nothing wrong with any of this, and I'm confident it would be a crowd pleaser at a party, which is generally code for easy-to-drink. But I like my aglianico on the rugged side and it's almost like someone said, let's see if we can turn gnarly, tannic Taurasi into an international style charmer with a minimum of varietal characteristics. Guess who the consultant turns out to be? The "prolific modernist" Riccardo Cotarella. Enough said.

Very decent and pleasant pizza wine. Inky, opaque with red-purple rim. Intense tobacco, spicy aromas. Dry, coarse mouthfeel resulting from a pronounced tannic-acidic structure (the descriptors 'silky' and 'elegant' are not appropriate here). There a some light cherry flavors, but the tannins and acid dominate, also on the finish. Good with food, not that strong on its own. For $15 quite ok. There may be better italian QPR out there.
