So here I go again….letting these brunello age too long. Believing I’m in a safe pocket of time. Putting them on the back and high shelves of my cellar. Thinking time will age them the same as it has me. Something more scarred, yet beautifully faded and beaming with polish, charm, life, and energy 🤣 This looks skinny, frail, wrinkled, it’s weak in flavor, personality and had little charm. I mercily reached for sip after sip, as I heard the same previously told stories recited again and again, without the previous passion during their delivery. The stories were told as if I had never heard them before, but sadly recited with incorrect timelines and missing characters. I knew that age had gotten the best of dear old friend. I became so bored that I said good night before the moon had risen, and very gently pushed the cork back into the full bottle and crawled off to bed with the hopes of visiting yesterday in my deep slumber of a cold winter night….TBC

Schock! Erste Berührung zeigt mehr Altersspuren als gedacht. Kaum Frucht, dafür viel Erde, Tabak, Rauch. Unbedingt dekantieren! Gerne mehrere Stunden. Vielleicht gerade auch etwas off, daher nächste Flasche 2025.

Concur with the note from August. Good catch identifying nutmeg on the palate. Very rich, ripe fruit and long silky finish. Tannins remain strong - even after an hour+ decant - so will likely continue to improve with further aging.

Drinking well, benefitted from 90 mins in the decanter. Softened the tannins, but interestingly brought the oak to the front. Not entirely well integrated in the end. Despite this, lovely sour cherry and herbal/savoury components to this. Made for a lovely accompaniment to baked rigatoni.

This is an excellent example of Brunello. The colour is rich Garnet with an orange hue at the rim. On the nose it is expressive with leather, tobacco, green stem, and Forest floor. The mouth feel is silky, with beautiful length, well matured tannin and beautiful mid palate acidity. Expresses cherry and dark berry with hints of nutmeg, Cassis. Luxurious and I cannot wait to try my other two bottles in the future.

I have been following the progress of this Sangiovese for a few years now and really enjoyed it alongside charcuterie prior to dinner. I didn't take notes, only mental observations. It is now mature, with high acidity and melded tannins. The red fruit is joined by leather, rose, cigar box and maduro. Medium bodied, it drinks nicely to a medium finish. You can read about my last tasting here. I'm sticking with the 93 points previously given. It runs $50 now which is still a good deal for well made Brunello. 5 stars. Drink till 2030.

Found one more bottle of this, amazingly it was the only good one and it was very nice. A clear wine, more brownish than red. Well balanced. Not sure why the others were so bad, they were all stored in the same 55 degree cellar. Possibly a flaw in the others?

last of 4 bottles purchase in 2017. Red/brown color. Great nose that had savory and sweet elements. Soy, leather, sweet cherry, strawberry, citrus and medicinal undertones. Palate had similar flavor profile. Medium+ body, medium acidity, integrated tannins and very long finish. 94+
Drinking beautifully - fruit not stewed but agree with prior taster no need to age this given how beautiful it is drinking now. I need to buy more current vintages of this wine.

This bottle was much softer than I had anticipated, possibly pointing to fast aging for the 2012 brunellos. Still the same delicious balsamic and earthy cherry characteristics , but feeling slightly stewed with a lack of vigor or much need to breath. I will hit another bottle soon because this is fully mature and too delicious to let fade away. Either a bottle thing or a wine thing. DRINK

Clear pale/medium garnet; clean medium nose of jammy plums, iodine and leather; dry; medium plus acidity; medium tannins; high alcohol; medium plus body; pronounced flavour intensity; palate is tarter with addition of cocoa, coffee and dried fruit; long finish; drink now or in another 5 years; improved immensely over 2 hours - open it early and let it breathe before drinking; otherwise it comes across as very shy and fruity

Blauweiss notes capture it well. Initially loads of fruit on the nose. Cherries and earthy on the palate with very rich mouthfeel. Well balanced with good acidity up front on refined tannins on the finish.
Drinking nicely after 1 hour decanting. A bit modern style. Darker cherry and colour. The alcohol was more present than in the il Poggione 2013 tasted at the same time. Needs food to open up.

Rich style, with plenty of oak as well as dark cherries, tea, leather, earthy as it starts to show some maturity. On the palate rich, with good fruit, soft but still evident tannin and good acidity. Plenty to like here! Drink now and the next 5-7 years.

Good after 1 hour. Started showing its true magnificence after 2.5 hour decant. Drink with lasagna or chicken/eggplant parmesan. Classic Brunello that’s not quite, but almost at prime drinking window with hints of tomato, earth, and anise, long finish.

Decanted for 1 hour and paired with grilled NY strips.
Brownish red color. Orange rind, savory tobacco, sweet cherry, soil and baking spice on beautiful nose. On palate, tart cherry, sweet cherry, fig/(pomegranate?), and orange rind. Medium body, medium+ acidity and long finish. 93-94 range. Loved this.

Yep, this is as good as it always is. Kudos San Felice! No bad wines made here. I would say that this is a dense brunello that is just at the beginning of a 10 year drinking window. Packed with earthy red fruit and balsamic notes. Long, dry finish. I like it right where it is and maybe over next 3 years...Drink

This one shows a slight orange tinge when I poured it, which is unusual for such a young wine. The nose is cherry, earthy funk, mushroom, oak and a trace of truffle. On the palate it shows primal fruit flavors of cherry, leather, gorgeous tannins and a juiciness from the impeccably balanced acidity. The tannins deserve a sentence of their own- fine grained, discrete at the beginning, working themselves squarely into the mid palate and reaching a crescendo on the finish. Not mouth puckering, but certainly apparent, very lithe yet powerful. They hold the wine together nicely. The finish has an oak hint to go along with the cherry and game notes. This wine is very young, and holds promise for many years of cellaring that will help it develop secondary notes, maturing into a great Brunello. I can’t wait to taste the evolution, perhaps starting in 2020. I will have to go with 93 points right now and 5 stars. Tonight’s pairing is with a Beef Pot Roast, bathed in Petite Sirah and braised for 6 hours.
Mid ruby color. Medium bodied with firm but well-integrated tannins. Sweet dried red cherry fruit, leather, good acidity. This is a good value for a Brunello. Drink now but still on the upswing.

This was really quite a nice wine. It was smooth and approachable right out of the bottle and had the acidity and structure that held up well. We don't drink that much Brunello, but after this bottle I'm glad we have several more of this wine and look forward to having more!

Decanted and drank over 2 hr. Definitely needs 1-2 hr decant. Wine smooths out over time and the sour part of sour cherry leaves the wine and a nice fruit flavor emerges. Likely will improve quite a bit with age....

Seemingly starting to enter an interesting drinking phase, this wine is beautiful. The aroma is complex, with dark chocolate, dark berries, densely fruited, some black currants, dried cherries, coffee, coconut. The palate shows tannins still very present, acidity likely to carry this wine for another decade or more, and likely to develop further as the tannins become less pronounced. It’s dark fruited on the palate, black currants, some herb leading toward a Christmas mince pie, subtle mocha, and a pleasing length. 92-94pts

Just so fresh and fruit laden that I wonder (briefly) if this is an aged port with all of its melancholy and thin mouthfeel. After just 1-2 seconds emerges it's tannins and so does its acidity. This is a wonderful and enjoyable Brunello. Fabulous aromatic bouquet of fresh berries. On the palette once again strawberry and more fresh black berries. Wonderful finish with balanced tannin and acidity. Hard to imagine that this particular wine could get too much better as I fear it's active fruits will work against aging.

Bu en succ lors des nouveaux arrivages. Ample et dense avec une belle strucuture. Terre, cerises et épices. Long et avec une légère chauffe en finale. Bien mais pour la cave, ouverture de la première dans 2-3 ans!
Hopefully this bottle was a bit off. Dark fruit, oak and somehow a bit unbalanced day 1 - but a lot there. Kind of fell apart on day 2 where it turned very alcoholic and sour.

Again gotta love the QPR on this masculine Brunello, which is not what you expect out of this varietal but quite pleasing nonetheless. Lots of depth and a good party wine.

San Felice & Campogiovanni Tasting (Bin 75 Alpharetta, GA): A very good showing for this wine, a sappy liqueur cherry, tobacco, roses, very balanced with lots of gas in the tank; delicious though hard to say whether I preferred this over the '14 Gran Selezione.

P: Med body; Rndish entry with LOVELY frt met by some very, VERY finely tannic pucker which, if anything, BUILDS into the LONG finish, though the tannins are ULT almost swtish, NEVER oppressive, & with the BAREST touch of bitterness. Approachable now with food, this DESERVES at least into '19, then drinking for MANY more thereafter. IMPRESSIVELY done in an elegant style! My VG+ with the DISTINCT potential for EXC! 96 pts & #20/Top 100 of '17 in WS, 93 ea Suckling, WE, & caspernick.com, 91 WA, & 16++/20 Jancis Robinson. Muscular for a Brunello but still a pleasure to drink. Ruby red with smooth tannins, this definitely did not have the red sweet fruits on the front of the palate like some Brunellos but I think I might prefer this style.

Clean, medium-bodied, good balance, but lacks complexity at this point; not sure it's ever going to develop. Pure, red-fruited, tannins nearly fully integrated. Seems like one to enjoy in its youth; good freshness still, though there's a nagging sense that this isn't going to be there forever; best in the near/mid-term, I think. Drink now thru 2025. I wanted to like it more than I actually did.
Double-decanted one hour before serving, non-blind.
Gambero Rosso Singapore 2017. Sniff, sip, spit. Only impressions. Well balanced Brunello but not the elegant red fruited sort. Dark red cherries, black cherries, black plums, toasty oak. Fine high tannins.

Much better than my last bottle. Not extremely complex, but very pleasant, fruity style. Cherry, vanilla and a nice refreshning acidity. Good balance and for 20 euro very good QPR.

A solid wine. Earthy with leather and cherry. Lingering and enjoyable finish. Really came together after being open for a few hours.

Classic Brunello features. Firm tannins but not overpowering. Drinking well now with potential to last a long time.

Behöver tid. Lite sur och vresig först, rent av obalanserad men vaknade till liv dag 2. Bra vin med stoppning för att klara många år till.

Winebar [2 Whts, 8 Reds, & 2 Shared Bottles] from 1/12/18 (Vintage Wines Ltd., San Diego, CA): 36 mos in 500 L FR oak barrels, followed by a further 12 mos in the bottle; 5.7 g/l T.A., 1.0 g/l R.S., & 14.5% ABV.
N: Vanilla atop earth with undertones of cherries

Just looking at it makes me want to adorn classy Italian brown leather shoes. Palate leathery but too sour for my palate. Too pointy, like a spur on a boot.

Thanksgiving dinner with 9 Brunello's
This one is simply the fresher. Fabulous aromatic bouquet of fresh berries. On the palette there is strawberry and fresh black berries. Wonderful finish with balanced tannin and acidity. Hard to imagine that this could get better.

Color has developed, nose as well, quite noble I must admit, almost full bodied with fine tannins and well balanced wine slightly on the muscular side.

4/30/2017 - Tim Heaton Likes this wine:
Clean, medium-bodied, good balance, but lacks complexity at this point; not sure it's ever going to develop. Pure, red-fruited, tannins nearly fully integrated. Seems like one to enjoy in its youth; good freshness still, though there's a nagging sense that this isn't going to be there forever; best in the near/mid-term, I think. Drink now thru 2025. I wanted to like it more than I actually did.
Double-decanted one hour before serving, non-blind.

Well balanced Brunello but not the elegant red fruited sort. Dark red cherries, black cherries, black plums, toasty oak. Fine high tannins.
