Dark garnet color and medium full body, firm, bright expressive black berry and black currant fruits are accented by some red fruits, herb notes and hints of black olive tapenade on a lingering moderate tannin laced finish. https://unwindwine.blogspot.com/2022/10/spring-valley-vineyard-frederich-2013.html

Better on Day 2 or 3!; 6/2/2022-7/5/2022 (3 Day Wine Review World Headquarters, Minneapolis, MN): Day 1: This is by far the best of the Frederick's I purchased at closeout pricing. Cherry, blueberries, menthol, spice, pepper and cigar. This is drinking really well now and should be consumed in the next few years. 92 points Day 2: Not as intense as day 1 and features tobacco, plum, cherry, menthol and spice. Still solid and medium finish. 90 points Recommendation: Pop and pour and enjoy. Drink now.

Clear deep garnet with medium meniscus. N of cherry, blueberry, blackberry baking spices and cocoa. P of same fruits with plum. I would drink this now as the fruit was riper than I expected.....

Took about 1 hr for this to open up, and then the strawberry’s came out to play! Some menthol in the finish, but soft tannins and medium bodied. Very easy drinker and we easily polished off this bottle for a Friday night with brisket.

Day 2: This is not that good of a wine and Spring Valley is not a winery I would recommend when there are so many better ones for less. Heavy wine with earth, oak, muted fruit. Bitter finish. Glad I picked these up for under $30 a bottle. 87 points Day 3: Even worse. 84 points Recommendation: On newer vintages buy one bottle of Spring Valley and if you like it buy more.

Corked broke off and what a mess. Once filtered out all the cork the wine is drinking well overall. Blueberries, dark cherries, spice, earth and tobacco. Medium finish.

Day 1: Tobacco, dust, sour cherry, menthol and dark fruits. Concentrated wine and flavorful. Medium plus finish. 91 points Day 2: Very Bordeaux like for a New World Blend. Tobacco, sour cherry, blueberries, menthol, gravel and dust. Medium plus finish. 91 points Recommendation: Pop and pour and enjoy. I did not see any noticeable difference from day 1 and 2 and would not recommend a 3rd day on this wine.

Very good up front fruit and in the mid palate. The finish seems to be a bit hot. I don’t know if waiting will cool down the finish or make the fruit fade. I am going to wait one year to drink the last bottle.

One of my first Washington wine loves and this still sings. Its CT scores are decent but it’s a Cab-dominant meritage that drinks much better and really captures the essence and nuances of Walla Walla terroir.

Day 1: Similar to the last experience were it was tight and not showing a lot of fruit. Chocolate, spice, earth and underbrush. Medium finish. 87 points Day 2: Much more alive with cherry, raspberries, rose petals, earth, dark chocolate and black licorice. Medium plus finish and adds a hint of tobacco. Significantly better which says heavy decant if consuming on day 1 only. 90 points

Big Top Closeout Deal Wines; 11/22/2018-2/24/2019 (Minneapolis/ St. Paul MN): Day 1: Pop and pour. Perfect serving temperature as it was pulled from the passive cellar. Something I always need to remind others and myself when drinking red wine. Not the most balanced effort featuring earth, leather, subtle fruits and spices. Shorter finish and just not that interesting. I am thankful I spent only $27 for this wine. Maybe more promise on day 2 or 3. 85 points Day 2: Better and more open for business. Perfume, floral, spices, chocolate, dark fruits and tobacco. Classic case of a wine that is not ready to drink but most would discard it. Day 2 shows a lot of potential and this could be a blockbuster Washington State Bordeaux Blend. 90+ points Day 3: Dust, chocolate, spice, dark fruits and floral notes. Medium plus finish and balanced. 90 points Recommendation: Hold until 2021 and beyond.

Ready to go right away. Smooth medium plus bodied with tannins almost fully integrated. Leathery redfruit, pepper, green bean, chalky cassis, and vanilla bean. Not the big fruit of Napa or the typical astringency I find in Washington. Nice for sub $50 in my opinion.

Fruit forward Cab dominant Bordeaux blend. Although it’s enjoyable this vintage does not equal previous offerings. At that price point there are many other worthy choices.

A Bordeaux-style blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 22% Cabernet Franc, 5% Petit Verdot, 3% Malbec, the 2013 Spring Valley Vineyard Frederic offers sumptuous fruit on the nose and palate. Twenty months in new French oak has further graced it with a balanced, well-integrated toast profile of vanilla and pencil shavings lending structure to a core of juicy, blackberry and black cherry, and plum. Nice persistence on the finish that unspools to reveal bay leaf and green peppercorn. 14.4% ABV | Sample

Made in the Walla Walla style, namely red fruit, taut, polished, and with(intentionally) removed tannins...(Can someone please explain the point of a toothless, red fruited, Merlot-like Cabernet Sauvignon blend?) For wines in this style it is rock solid and well made, but generally bland and thus boring.
