  • A very pretty color of ruby with a wide reddish rim.

Strong nose of red currants, plums, light oak, medicine, spices, licorice, peppercorn, herbs, vegetables and dark coffee.

Medium plus in body with medium plus acidity and long fat legs.

Dry on the palate with cherries, strawberries, red currants, spices, tobacco, earth, vegetables, wood, bitter herbs, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium finish with firm tannins (once it opens up) and tangy raspberries.

This is a very nice Merlot from Bordeaux. This 100% Merlot, not from a great vintage, is showing mild complexity with a grippy mouthfeel.

This 9 year old is drinking very nicely now, and will be good in the next 5 years.

Needed time to open up properly and show the tannins, but good right out of the bottle.

A good food wine that I paired with cheeses and dried meats.

    14% alcohol by volume.

    $35.

  • entering drinking window, somewhat lacking fruit, some notes of plum but little blacj fruit. medium acidity and rather light bodied even at 13%. Was having higher expectations, perhaps bottle variations?

  • Small tasting glass @ VINEUM during service, so a brief note. Also made by Philippe Carrille just like the previously tasted Haut Cardinal, this is slight better imho...A bit more juice!
