Loire valley (and a little Champagne); 9/14/2023-9/22/2023: From open 75cl at DV cellar door. This bottle a mix of 2017, 18 and 19 from 3 different sites in Cuis and Épernay. No oak, 3g dosage, bottled 2020 and degorged January 2023. Tiny bubbles, but quite a lot of pressure; very austere and closed on the nose; ultra-bone dry entry; austere, „chalky“ white fruit and a hint of apple on the mid–palate (although apparently this went through malo). Tough to like now, but surely much better after a couple of years sideways. 87P+(?)

Delicious! Enough acidity and complexity to be interesting, and the low dosage rounds the edges off to keep it from being too aggressive. Great wine to keep around.

Lone bottle found in a local retail store several months ago. No disgorgement date on label. Crystalline pale gold color. Nose of ginger, apple core, lemon peel, grapefruit. Effervescent layers of pure apple and white citrus fruit cut with biscuit, white stone, and satisfying sweet saline on the palate. Long finish of grapefruit and granny apple. Really delicious! Opened to celebrate the Seahawks reaching the playoffs.

A private lunch (Restaurant De Wilde Zwijnen, Amsterdam, NL): Made with 100% Chardonnay from Cuis and Epernay, 70% vintage 2016 and 30% 2017, disgorged after three years sur lattes with a dosage of 3 gr/l. Gentle, silky, stylish, elegant, acacia, citrus, chalk, lively acidity, dry but not austere, just a hint of earth, good length.

Drank to celebrate an online wedding stream because who doesn't like bubbles for breakfast? This was ok, but not my favorite small bottle of champagne. A bit bland and uninspiring actually. From a 375.

From 37,5cl. Another outstanding half-bottle as previously noted. Two years in the cellar paid a rich dividend this evening. Gorgeous balance, gently natural-tasting sweetness, chalky minerality, finely-chiselled citrus, in a word: astonishing quality for a N.V. BdB; a bargain. 90–91P

Some bubbly for a group of 9 before the change of year. Fairly basic but good. Light yeasty nose with a green apple dominant palate along with light lemon and a touch of butterscotch on the finish. Tightly wound and high in acidity. Probably a bit better with food.

Acquired on site between 2007-2010. Part of a tasting “NV with age”. Quite a surprise and scored high despite being the cheapest wine in the tasting. Dust and cola candy. Sherry notes. Sweet apples and grilled lemons. Very good length. Conclusion: Let your NV rest some time in your cellar!

DG 11/2017 Nose is almond flowers and marzipan and brioche. Palate is racy and very linear but has some complexity and weight as it opens up. Slightly mushroomy, candied lemon, Jordan almond, medium finish. Not life changing but nice to start off a family meal.

From 37,5cl. This simply can't be the same wine as I recorded here on 19.02.2001: this one tastes as if the sugar spoon slipped during dosage, killing any Côte de Blancs excellence straight off – and I swear there's no hint of green apple anywhere. Grrr. 86P(?)

After dinner porch sipper. I often talk about time and place as it relates to wine and this was just a very satisfying moment. Busy day doing a bunch in our neighborhood and an excellent homemade pasta meal and so a bit full and then hanging out in the evening on the porch rocking chairs saying hello as neighbors passed and sipping wine. It's hard to argue with that.

A private lunch (Caffè Toscanini, Amsterdam, NL): Back to Caffé Toscanini today, after the restaurants in the Netherlands had been closed for more than six months. Nice to see that some things haven't changed. From vines in Cuis, Chouilly, Epernay and Cramant. Youthful and bright, elegant, creamy texture and a steely backbone. A perfect aperitif on a (finally!) sunny and warm day.

Again these 375s are so easy to grab for a quick set of bubbles. Accompanied some fried chicken from the local jacksonville place and the wine improved the food and vice versa. Not overly complex, but very easy to drink and good at the price point.

From 37,5cl, Champagne layered cork. No disgorgement date visible, but purchased September 2020 at cellar door, so probably early 2020. Fabulous. Entry-level Champagne doesn't get any better than this. Relatively plush and generous for a NV BdB, this displays young ripe green apple, fine acidity, just the right amount of vivacious bubbles (without becoming burpy) and all in all: extraordinary class for the moderate price of 12,50€ cellar door. 90-91P

From a 375 and while I do tend to believe bigger is better when it comes to bottle size for champagnes, sometimes it's nice to have a little bottle that gives you each a glass and change. For a Zoom meeting with a wine person in our new town with someone I expect will become a good friend. This doesn't necessarily jump out, but it is good solid champagne that drinks well.

I love the Cuvee Prestige and was wondering whether this would be a step down. Not that I can notice - thought this was top tier for entry level NV champers. Perfect balance of cut / acidity and fruit / sweetness. Really nice texture for a wine at this price point.

Really nice blanc de blancs. Creamy mouthfeel with aromas of apple, pear and a touch of honey. Opened this a recent block party with some of my new neighbors. Needless to say it was a great starter to the party. This crowd pleaser has lively acidity with citrus and floral notes and a clean lengthy finish.

A private lunch (Restaurant De Wilde Zwijnen, Amsterdam, NL): Freshly opened bottle. Forward and juicy style, ripe citrus fruit, but everything in the stylistic context of a Grand Cru from the Côte des Blancs, so with lots of chalky freshness and mineral energy, and lovely tight and dry finish. I hadn’t tasted this for seven years, and now twice in one week in Amsterdam!

MASTER CHAMPAGNE; 1/28/2019-4/30/2019 (WESTIN PALACE MILANO): Degustato alla cieca. 2015+2014 - 7 g/l Classico e molto didascalico della Cote des Blancs. Vinosità asciutta, al limite dell' essenziale. Fine, pulito, etereo. Buccia di cedro, erbe amare, gesso. In bocca è molto dritto e appuntito, schiocca, sgrassa e frizza. Tanto sale amaro e acidità citrina. Tanto giovane, ma ben coerente e ben costruito.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, high acidity. There is a creaminess to the feel with green apples, pears, white florals, flint, and warm dough notes.
Overall: This is a blend of 2014 and 2015. This is a pretty straightforward Blanc de Blancs from one of the classic producers in the region.

origin of this bottle is unknown but it has been stored at least 5-6 years. Lovely marriage of freshness and mature notes. Delicate red and pink lady apples, some yellow lightly candied fruits and fresh dough on the nose. Subtle and ripe fruits (more towards the yellow spectrum) on the palate. Good concentration and pleasant acidity for drinking now. Small hints of sherry. Really great stuff.

End-of-year dinner (Jubilee Garden, Safra Toa Payoh): A magnum with quite a bit of age on it, this was decent enough. The nose smelt of slight browned apples and kumquats with a citrus lemon lift, and then just a touch of years and biscuit. Pleasant. The palate still had a decent if not exactly fine mousse and plenty of acidity ringing slightly oxidative browned apple notes leading into a citrus and mineral finish. Simple but decent enough, with a nice fresh feel that made it a good aperitif.

Two and a half more years in bottle (purchased together with the bottle I wrote a note on in June 2015) and this had really come nicely together and offered a much more rounded, creamy experience. The dosage was however perhaps a bit too noticable as a result but overall great blanc de blancs especially since it only cost 25 EUR!

Very fine Bl. d Bl. Rather new release of this NV. Nose with all the typical characteristics of fine chardonnay present. Lime and green apples, white flowers, bread, yeast and minerals. Palate is very clean and bright, lemons, some creamy apples, bread and a touch of lychee and pear. Good minerallity and excellent acidity, with low dosage coming thru. Overall made in a lovely and very solid style.

Wow! What a treat. I have cellared this bottle since pre millennia, and this shows just how good a ”simple” NV can turn out, if given time (provided it holds together of course). Nose is very complex and deep with nuts, fresh biscuits, ripe citrus fruits, minerals, with a touch of ocean spray and coffee. Rather amazing for an NV. Palate was equally fine, creamy and chalky, sweet ripe white stone fruits, lemons, sweet grapefruits, mature apples, some very nice oxidative notes underneath. So complex and still so very fresh, at almost 20 years of age. Again, a good/great producer stored under the right conditions, Champagnes like this one with age are just marvelous, and so rewarding. Amazing even. This could easily have taken another 10 years, and benefitted from it. Note to self: store more high quality NV Champagnes for long periods. Fab!

NV DIEBOLT-VALLOIS BRUT BLANC de BLANC- magnum; brought by one who`s wife just gave birth about a week prior, we celebrated with this lovely bubbly; this was medium bodied with bright acidity and fresh floral and fruit notes including spicy grapefruit, pear and citrus; it had an elegance that graced the palate all the way to the back end; a great start and enough left over for all to re-visit later on.

The final bubble of our Champagne Cantonese Seafood Spectacular was no disappointment, albeit had to walk in large footsteps after the wine of the night! Served in big bowl Chardonnay glasses to allow the nose to flourish. Powerful aromas of citrus and flowers with pleasant yeastiness. Dramatic statement initially on the palate develops into a more elegant, yet slightly short, finish. A winner from A to Z and excellent QPR.

Sourced from Moore Brothers in NYC, this champagne delivered on Sat night, with a group of old friends, just as it always does in my experience. Terrific citrus notes and the requisite lip-smacking chalkiness. One friend mentioned lychee, which I did not get. While I am hesitant to label it a "crowd pleaser", in fact it did please all ten in the group ranging from novice to serious oenophile. And sadly that was just as an aperitif, since the service was a bit slow and it was all gone before apps arrived. Would have been heavenly with oysters (if only we could find them in Des Moines -- LOL)!

From 75cl, good champagne cork. Exactly as noted in my TN of 03.11.2014, except the "numbing orange oil" has moved to the finish, and the mid-palate perhaps lacks some weight and tension I remembered from that bottle, from the same batch disgorged April 2013. Delicious. 88-89P

I was introduced to this by the sommelier at Manresa in Los Gatos. When I don't bring my own bottle to a high end restaurant such as this, this is exactly what I'm looking for. When the wine list prices are 3x retail, I want something new to me, and that over-delivers. And this did just that. Fantastic food-pairing Blanc de Blancs full of acidity of crisp green apples and subtle mineral notes. Light and lively with very fine bubbles and not bone-dry. Not incredibly complex, but it didn't need to be, and probably shouldn't be, to allow all the delicate flavors of the chef's cuisine to shine. It was able to carry though a variety of hot and chilled seafood and vegetable courses with ease.

This one had put on a lot of weight, regarding a BdB wine (could it be some years from degorgement) the Cork indicated some aged. Very fresh with flowers on the nose. The mousse was to the rough side, but with a fine attack.

100% Chardonnay from the villages of Côte des Blancs and Côteaux d'Epernay: Cuis, Chouilly and Epernay with some fruit sourced from young vines located in Cramant. Normally consists of the base vintage with a part of reserve wine from the previous vintage.
Deep yellow-green color. Surprisingly ripe and fruity nose with rich aromas of sweet yellow apples, even some peachy yellow fruit, a little bit of waxy character and a distinctive note of marzipan. The wine feels very dry, yet also surprisingly ripe on the palate with flavors of ripe yellow apples, some tart lemony citrus fruits, a little bit of juicy white peach and a gentle hint of autolytic toast. The wine is quite gentle and easily approachable due to its medium-to-moderate acidity and very fine, soft and creamy mousse. The finish is noticeably leaner with sharp and tangy flavors of steely minerality, tart green apples, some apple peel bitterness and a touch of nutty autolysis.
A noticeably ripe, smooth and fruity Blanc de Blancs that doesn't feel as lean and austere as many of the young examples of the style do - at least not until the piercing aftertaste, which seems to lose all the softer and fruitier characteristics. Overall quite easily approachable effort that is probably best served on its own, although I could imagine this wine pairing nicely with lighter entrées that don't call for racy acidity and too pronounced minerality. I know many people love this style of wine, but I feel like the wine was a bit too linear and one-dimensional, making me want for a bit more depth and complexity. Good stuff, but nothing remarkable.

From a 375ml, paired with a tin of caviar. This was very enjoyable. It obviously had some age on it, with the nose having developed a savoury white meat character to go alongside its red apple and honeyed pear aromas lined with some lemon peel and a whiff of saline minerality - an accent that seemed to make perfect sense alognside the salty caviar. The palate was rather more youthful though - there was a lot more of a citrus, lemony character that undercut the riper red apple character on the midpalate, and also a nice fresh, clean balance and a creamy mousse that kept the palate very refreshed. Good finish too, with good, grippy mineral feel to it. Not the most complex Champagne perhaps, but this was a very commendable, certainly very enjoyable NV. Great pairing with the caviar as well.

One of my favorite “basic” Champagnes. Based in Cramant, Diebolt – Vallois are among my favorite growers in the region. This bottling consist of wine from two vintages blended. On the nose this shows lovely flowers and oozes with minerals and some green apples and tropical fruits. On the palate is where it really happens, great chalky mineral driven creamy Champagne, with a great backbone and a great mix of apples and citrus fruits. A long finish, and a lovely wine.

Very minerally, tangy nose of green apple, vanilla and quite prominent toastiness. I'm sensing that at least parts of the wine have seen some oak. Quite a nice nose though, if definitely that of a young wine. A strong and dense, mouthfilling mousse. Packed with surprisingly dark toned Chardonnay fruit with a good dose of chalk to go with. Plenty of baker's spice, while not that toasty really. Delightfully vinous with moderate dosage. A really nice, good QPR BdB that took several hours to fill up.
Day2: The nose is at first very fruity and floral, but after a while in the glass the toast and oakish aromas emerge and take over. The wine effervescense has eased up a bit, resulting in a more gentle and creamy mouthfeel. Overall a balanced wine with very good length and a chalky, mouth-puckering finish. The flavor profile has become more subtle and harmonious, mixing the primary fruit and secondary leesy, spicy and toasty flavors in a very stylish fashion. Good energy too.

Impromptu lunch at ITSPD (Imperial Treasure Super Peking Duck, Paragon): From a 375ml with a bit of bottle age on it (though no clear indication of disgorgement date). This was decently good, but I thought it was quite a few steps down from the really nice magnum of the same I had some weeks back. This one needed some time to open up. The nose was rather subtle throughout, with some flowers and sweet apple aromas, a light dose of cream and just a hint of exotic spice. Nice though. The palate, on the other hand, was a bit more open, showing developed flavours of kumquats, yuzu and preserved limes - all in the citrus family of flavours, but with a certain preserved fruit peel savouriness to them that comes with age. Beneath that though, there was a bountiful amount of bright, youthful energy and structure, with zippy acidity and a fine, vigorous mousse running through the length of the wine, and then a firm mineral backbone that tailed off into a decent finish, where a hint of spice showed up. I found this a little too acidic, almost stern when served well-chilled and without food. Paired with some fried dim sum and drank at a more appropriate temperature though, it rounded up, fleshed out and took on a more friendly, more agreeable mien. Even then, it was probably not as easy-going and generous as I remembered the magnum being, perhaps less harmoniously integrated as well. Overall though, it is an interesting champagne with a nice amount of character on it.

Domaine René Engel Dinner (Fleur de Sel, Tras Street): En magnum, I thought this was really pleasant - a great way to start any dinner. It started out with a gentle nose of apples and lemons with a bit of yeast on the side. Nothing spectacular, but pretty nice. The palate took on very much the same lines, with fresh green apple flavours and some citrussy lemons along with a pinprick of spice. Simple flavours, but all wonderfully integrated and very harmonious, and wrapped in a lovely balance and a very fine, gentle mousse. It had a nice, well-cut finish as well. There was nothing remarkable here in terms of depth or complexity, but I thought the wine was quite perfectly proportioned and drinking very prettily indeed. A lovely, understated NV BdB.

Jura, Puligny Montrachet and Champagne; 9/8/2013-9/20/2013: Big, slightly loud, concentrated entry: lemon/orange fruit, strong minerality, very clean and linear, although the weakish mid-palate and short finish don't quite hold up to the outstanding promise of the entry. No brioche at all on the nose, which surprised me. This bottling is a blend of juice from 4 terroirs on the Côte de Blancs, 2009+2010 vintage, bottled 2011 and disgorged March 2013. 6g dosage. Drink within 2-3 years. A bargain for 19 EUR at cellar door. (88-)89P

Year-end "James Bond" Party (Chad's, Chuville): A subtle, classy NV - I really liked this. It had a lot of character on the nose: slightly yeasty, slightly meaty, with a good touch of umami, soy sauce notes swimming around a core of white fruit, kumquat and nice seashelly mineral aromas - this seemed quite developed. The palate was fresher, maybe simpler, and certainly slightly fruitier than the nose suggested, with supple lemon and lime flavours held in perfect balance by well-integrated acidity and a nice subtle mousse. Not the most complex in the world, especially when placed next to the Champagnes that came after it, but this was made in a very nice, very clean style that made it go down so easily. Good finish too, with a little lick of mineral around its white fruited core. Very yummy, and fantastic with oysters and smoked salmon. A great start to dinner.

Annual Champagne Tasting (Marquis Wine Cellars): Retailer tasting, brief notes. Light and elegant on the nose showing green apples and citrus. Some yeast on the palate along with lemon juice and some floral notes. A bit diluted and simple, with a light mousse and soft acidity. Not bad, but at this price I'm expecting more. Good.

Lovely Champagne, lithe, feminine and demure. The slightest bit of yeast on the palate, this is otherwise just clean white and clear fruit and nice acidity. Deb loved this. Sunday night before Hurricane Sandy, with Deb and Abbie.

This never fails to impress -- drinking as awesome and youthful as ever. Acidic nose of tart yellow apple with hints of pear and elusive butterscotch followed by lean, focused white stone fruits and tart apple pie on the palate. Small tight bubbles that make this sparkler dance on your tongue. This is such a fun and energetic BdB, not to be taken too seriously which makes it just that much more of a winner. From magnum.

Somewhat unremarkable nose; Rich and round, crisp apple, toast and minerally. Bitterness finish. Lacked harmony and could have used a touch more acidity. Half-bottle.

Light yelow-green color. Freshly-cut Granny Smith apple on the nose. Apple is also the dominant note. Mild bread dough yeastiness and nut skin that dominate the finish after the apple fades for almost a full minute. Good, refreshing stuff. Caveat: This bottle was opened and re-corked and sat in my fridge for about 10 days before I tried it. However, it was sealed well, so I decided to go ahead and review it, especially as it tasted about as expected.

Really lovely BdeB nose, rich, creamy and lemony, very appealing. The palate is a little sharp at the moment but has plenty of depth. I think this will be lovely with a ear or 2 bottle age (this bottle was bought ex domaine 3 months ago)

Supposedly this was now past the drinking window by a year or two but you'd never know it. Truly subtle and went GREAT with the appies including the cheeses I bought, especially the goat based 'pyramid' one that had a hint of blue cheese, as well as the others. Most of the guests couldn't really appreciate it since they're more into wine.

Another very pleasing showing. Very clean, very pure, light on its feat. Light bead. What I like about this Blanc de Blanc is what it doesn't show: yeast, citrus, toast are all dialed down to zero, and the palate is more a display of purity, transparency and clarity. Some salinity on the finish. Very nice.

Quite nice glass of Champagne! A good mix of lemon, apple and a hint of lime all within the ripping acidy and some tiny bubbles makes this a real treat for fans of dry Champ! A good food vine no doubt but a couple of years to smooth out would be good!

Mye bobler til å begynne med, men roet seg etterhvert og viste seg som en frisk og balanser vin. Litt moden frukt og gjær, men mest frisk citrus. Veldig mye for pengene.

Golden yellow. Shy nose offering some yeast/brioche and some tree fruit. Light to medium bodied with some non-descript fruit, clipped suddenly without any complexity or anything to consider. I think this may have been slightly oxidized. I've had plenty of these that showed much better.

After going through a string of unremarkable grower champagnes, real nice to run into an impressive one. And I don't even love blanc de blanc. Firm, rich, and balanced. The dosage is right on -- dry but not overly so. A touch toasty and yeasty. The flavors are very focused -- I've been running into a lot of flabby grower juice as of late -- not this one. Definitely one to seek out even if you like a little Pinot in your champagnes.

Chablis and Champagne 19-22.09.2011; 9/19/2011-9/22/2011: A blend from various villages, all on the Côte de Blancs. Reticent grilled bread scent, reserved entry with pleasant sweetness. Very short on the finish. Impeccably pure; lovely, fine, gentle mousse, but hardly exciting. 86(-87)P

A night at RN 74 (Seattle, WA): Pale gold. The nose shows yeast, brioche and some pear. Light to medium bodied. This enters the palate with a blast of minerality enhanced by tart apple and pear. The minerals persist through the back of the palate. Interestingly, the finish lingers with tart, crisp citrus fruit not present previously.
Drank with oysters, roast quail and tuna tartare.

taste: balanced medium feel with nice supporting medium+ acidity. There is a nice roundness to the palate with tones of citrus, roasted nuts, some leesy tones, warm dough and some pears
overall: a very good NV. Well balanced and with a fatter take on the nose and palate.

This is what I wrote 6 months ago: “A yellow gold color with roiling bubbles and a lacy mousse hypnotize the senses of sight and sound. Soon the nose is captured with scents of brioche, chalk, lemon and toasted coconut. A creamy, full bodied mouthfeel - rich and satisfying - with a lengthy finish that lasts well after the wine is gone. From magnum - always fun.”
It’s very much the same just now. The laciness of the mousse is quite impressive. Poured for Rodney Young in celebration of his 50th birthday. This is the wine I tried to pull into the Inn at Little Washington when we went there for my 50th and Rodney and MMS tagged along. 12% alc. Without food. Highly Recommended.

First drink cracked on Saturday to get back on the horse that bucked us off the night before. Perhaps not the wisest choice as the piercing green apple acidity strips away any remaining lining of one’s stomach. Crisp, fresh, linear and saliva inducing.

Goon Wine (NoPo): The nose hits on two levels right out of the glass. It delivers rich apple scents coupled with a feeling of austerity entirely independent from the fruit. Some wet stones and lime scents show elegantly. The bubble deliver elegance as well, and red and green apples work together to deliver full and long lasting fruit across the palate. The acidity pops and a mineral wash runs down the center of the palate while apple peels show briefly later on. The fruit is delicious and wonderfully balanced with the acidity and mineral component. I could drink bottles of this back to back!

Holy crap was this good! Big yeast on the nose, pears, red apples, smelling really delicious and inviting. Round, soft feel on the palate with nicely textured bubbles. Refreshing, crisp red apple flavors on the palate, ripe acidity and just a touch of sweetness linger for a long time through a balanced palate and finish. Maybe it's because I wasn't expecting much, but this was killing it

Wow, this was without question the poorest bottle of Diebolt Champagne that have ever had. I'm guessing based on 07, as that one was not so good from a 750 recently. Candied sense to the fruit, oddly floral in a department store perfume section kind of way, and just not interesting or complex wine. some one guessed that it had been hear damaged.

Martine's Wines Portfolio Tasting 2011 (mk Restaurant, Chicago, Illinois): Markedly different in style from the Cuvee Tradition. Much more high-pitched, with winter orchard fruits predominant. The sense of chalkiness is so palpable here it feels like an old-timey school marm is pounding out erasers in your mouth. Compelling, but seems a tiny bit shrill to a sluggish palate at 11 am. Will want to revisit this in six months' time.

Dinner chez Bisty (Brussels): Bright yellow colour. In the nose mineral, yellow and green apple, citrus, some peach, a hint of wild strawberries, some flowery notes. Some biscuity notes appear with higher temperature. On the palate medium bodied, high acidity, clearly mineral, mature citrus fruit, yellow and some green apple. 89-90 p. Magnum bottle, purchased directly from the producer mid-2009. My guess when was a Blanc de Blancs, a rather young vintage version such as 2002, possibly with some barrel notes. Impressive quality for a non-vintage.

not the best bottle, perhaps the worst that was not flawed, actually. this one shows bulk and something almost honeyed. there is a bit of salt and the silky finely bubbled texture is there, but the impeccable balance and harmony are not part of this particular wine. the tiny label code reads "007," which i take to indicate the base year of the wine, which would explain everything. 07 not a great year..

Appley fruit, faint floral notes, lemon and nice autolysis notes on the nose. Dry and rather light with a medium strong moussé showing bitter citrusy notes and refreshing acidity. Mini Beaucastel Vertical (81-01) with 86 Sauternes (Bethesda, MD): Opens very yeasty with notes of brioche, biscuit and toast, that blow off and offer a nice saline and minerally focused wine. It begins to firm in structure and a very citric element of lime and lemon come to the forefront. Elegant but holding a pleasant and acidic structure. This champagne will age nicely for quite some time. At its price point, it punches very well.

"LB 8" - probably means disgorged in 2008. Intense yellow apples, rhubarb and flowers on the nose. Fruity and succulent on the palate, wiith perhaps a bit too much dosage. Shows some chalk with air. A perfect introduction to the softness of Cramant. Or even an introduction to the influence of terroir in Champagne. This blend would probably make a good brut nature. Very good value.
I agree with another taster here that the nose resembles lemon pie.
And I disagree with tasters who use find notes from the sea in this, such as crab or oysters.

Champagne Dinner (AN): The first wine of the Champagne dinner. An outstanding match for caviar, quails eggs, sour cream and blinis, since its high acidity could handle the richness of caviar very well. Again, some consider its acidity too sharp and this wine can definitely be aged to show more complexity

Still pale lemon with some golden hints at the core. Very fine bead. Nose - a combination of citrus and fresh bread. High acidity, it could still age for another 3-5 years. Medium length. Much better than the NVs of big houses. Went very well with chicken! Had high expectations for this wine, since it was my first meeting with DV. It's obvious that these DVs need serious cellaring time, however, I approve spending my money on growers like this rather than the ubiquitous big houses, which are, frankly, quite boring.

Nose of oatmeal, lemon peel, fresh ginger. Refreshingly low dosage, with nice cutting acidity but a very tight and austere palate. Some nice minerality and plenty of lemony acidity. Pleasantly expansive on the back palate and finish. Very tight and austere compared to a gorgeous bottle drank a few weeks ago (from a different source); this was actually more generous and successful as a still wine after many hours of aeration. Dinner with friends (2xChampagne, Vouvray, Bandol, Bourgueil, Alsace) (Jonathan and Samantha's): Light sparkling yellow with very small, tight mousse. Bursting nose of tart green apples surrounded by characteristic chardonnay aromas and some stone. As the wine warms up a little, there’s a bit of ginger biscuit and maybe a little floral character. But that characteristic chardonnay keeps coming back. Close your eyes and it could be a St. Aubin. At first sip, it seems awfully soft, but only for the first sip. After that, the palate is bright with acid and a lemony fruit, along with a healthy shot of mineral. Not heavily dosed, but avoids being overly austere. Nice texture and nice finish that brings the floral element back out, along with a little more white burg wafting up the chimney. There’s certainly a lot going on here (especially for the price), but it does seem to be a little disjointed. I suspect a few more years in the bottle would do wonders. Great bubbles for the money.

Nose is almond flowers and marzipan and brioche. Palate is racy and very linear but has some complexity and weight as it opens up. Slightly mushroomy, candied lemon, Jordan almond, medium finish. Not life changing but nice to start off a family meal.

A perfect aperitif on a (finally!) sunny and warm day.

Classico e molto didascalico della Cote des Blancs. Vinosità asciutta, al limite dell' essenziale. Fine, pulito, etereo. Buccia di cedro, erbe amare, gesso.

Fab!

Light gold in color, this wine reveals lovely green apple on the nose, combined with subtle but pleasant bread yeast aromas, minerality and crisp acidity, make this a quite enjoyable Champagne. Also, fairly reasonably priced for the quality.
Purchased for $40US, this was an ideal pairing with my GF and my chef's choice menu at Taste of the World BYOB in New Hope, PA (highly recommended).

Ingen hastverk med resten av flaskene, men jeg har vel heller ikke tro på store gevinster. Kjøper inn en six-pack med en bedre baseårgang og gjentar forsøket om noen år.

Definitely one to seek out even if you like a little Pinot in your champagnes.

taste: balanced medium feel with nice supporting medium+ acidity. There is a nice roundness to the palate with tones of citrus, roasted nuts, some leesy tones, warm dough and some pears
overall: a very good NV. Well balanced and with a fatter take on the nose and palate.
