I gave this an hour in the glass before drinking over next 3 hours. Plums, light in body, red fruits. I had the 2014 which was lovely a few months back. This was decent. It can still hold for a few more years but I do not see an upside in doing so. .

Medium purple color; sweet black cherry , menthol and anise nose; smooth, well integrated tannins with persistent fruit on the finish. Very enjoyable to drink. It needed some time to open up.

Big, boozy nose of toasted vanilla, black currants, and cloves. Palate matches it, but is on the jammier side—black fruits, maybe a little raspberry too, given how tart they are. That tartness and alcoholic heat linger. In my opinion, this is a wine you need to pair with the proper dinner (bbq, meatloaf, etc.). The tannins are chalky; there is nice acidity. Food helps by reducing the impact of the former—

PNP, opened at cellar temp. Expressive nose of black cherry, pipe smoke, dusty gravel. Full bodied, medium+ finish. A little heat from the alcohol, but right now this wine is in a great place and very enjoyable. This would pair well with BBQ and grilled meats.

Fresh bramble, cassis, a bit (raspberry?) jam, mint, some chalky minerality here as well; cool fruit, very fresh, polished, concentrated without ever feeling heavy, this screams Ridge all over the place. A step (or two) behind the Geyser and Lytton Springs in terms of depth and complexity for sure, but god, if this isn't absolutely delicious as well. Fantastic QPR. 16.5+/20

Opened for 3 hours. Color: Deep garnet. On the nose: Cassis, vanilla, a bit of sour cherry. On the palate: Blackberries, cassis, vanilla, and lots of spice. Good acidity. A bit less density in the mouth than I would have thought. Drinks easily. Good wine.

Big wine with a big Tannins and acidity that slightly over power the fruit here. The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are slow. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like red currant, raspberry, vanilla, oak and barnyard. It tastes like black currant (cassis), raspberry, apple and vanilla. The body is full. The wine has coarse texture. The wine finishes long. The wine has high acidity. This is definitely a wine to have with food something meaty and rich that will balance the Acid. For my taste I think it could do with another year in the cellar to mellow and become more balanced. Interesting and complex but not rounded enough yet for my taste.
Served with smoked Baby Back Ribs. Drinking really well. Notes of red and black fruit. Blackberry and licorice on the palate. Long smooth finish. May get better but great now.

Drank over three days. An opaque, deep purple core fading to a deep ruby outer edge. High viscosity. Nose a little closed initially and rather simplistic. With time the wine developed a lush, highly concentrated core of baked black fruits, blackberry, blackcurrant, mulberry, black cherry, and black plum. Liquorice, black pepper, and oak provide additional layers. The full bodied nature and 14.5% alcohol is just about kept in check by the acidity.

Coravin fun - Ridge range; 1/15/2020-1/17/2020 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Ooh, smells quite serious initially. Savoury plums, black cherry, slight earth, spice, a little blood note, polished oak. With time in glass the fruit grows more compote and is joined by some baked strawberry. On the palate it's surprisingly fresh, strawberry joins plums and black cherries, there is some peppery spice, tannins are drying and a little chalky , but by no means dominant. Balanced. Long. Fantastic.

Had a bottle of this in January and had noted oak, which surprised me in a Ridge Zin. This bottle had not a hint--any oak was fully integrated and was a real pleasure to drink. Smooth as silk. Might be the best QPR of the year.

The East Bench Zinfandel is always a step up from the Three Valleys but without the age-ability or complexity of the Lytton Springs or Geyserville. This one is just at the front end of its drinking window and will likely show more in six months or so.

Went back and looked at my previous ratings for this wine--two of the 2014 and two of the 2015, and this is the first where oak has been obvious. Looking at their site, Ridge uses newer barrels on the less expensive bottles and much more of the older barrels (3-4 years) on a wine like Monte Bello--which also gets a little of the French oak where East Bench is 100% American oak. Am hoping the oak will integrate a little more in my future bottles.

I am always surprised to find this is a 100% Zin. So many flavors come at you that it seems like a blend--but not the typical Rhone or Bordeaux. There is something on the finish that I can't identify, especially on night three. Give it some decant and air and tell me what you find.

Plenty of black fruit with maybe a hint of dark chocolate. Tannins still dominant in this 100% Zin but based on previous vintages they will soften over the next year. Great QPR on this entry level Ridge.
Served it well chilled at first, and it was shining with a lot of blue and black berries, not jammy, but forward. Still, the low temperature drew out the acidity and made it feel really well balanced. Second phase at close to room temperature, more dried fruits and some leather. After a couple of hours in the decanter, it started to feel alcoholic and fiery, but just an hour later, it was back to more balanced, but raisiny feel. Excellent zin. But I would not store it for too many years. Drinking really well right now.

Coravin fun - Ridge range (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Rich, ripe plum and dark berry, chocolate and very slight herbaceous notes. As per the 2014, more of the same on the palate, but a little more spice here, or little more tannic grip. Really very good indeed. Splendid

Popped and poured, drank over about 90 minutes, served with broiled lamb. Really good - brambly fruits, some plum, a little dark chocolate, pepper spice, a little oak. nice acid and tannin; maybe not as good as Lytton Springs but still really good!

Poured blind. The oak factor gave it away a little though. But I happen to think the fruit can handle it in this case and the result is a pretty balanced wine that speaks of it's variety and vintage in a transparent enough way. It has the acid and tannin as structural pillars. It's quintessential Zin to me, pruny and spicy, with great concentration and length. Highly enjoyable and honestly pretty impressive too, as I'd always thought Zin needed a little blending partner to balance it out.

From memory: Primary red fruit and a dash of vanilla on the nose and palate. Plenty of power and structure. Tasty, but currently fairly one-dimensional. Will probably never rival Lytton Springs or Geyserville, but should develop a little more complexity if left alone for another two to three years. Knowing myself, however, I doubt my remaining stock will make it past the upcoming barbeque season (89-91 points).

Magenta in color. 14.7% ABV. Brooding nose of black fruits, pepper and granite. Full bodied with mouth watering acidity. Plush, rich and savory. Blackberry, mulberry, raspberry liqueur and pepper on the palate. The finish is exceptionally long with gritty tannins. Lots to like here and about the 2015 Ridge Zinfandel lineup in general. Drink over the next 5-7 years.

Spicy, brambly and needing a touch of time maybe. Lots of black fruit in there. Full mid palate, doesn't have the tannin structure of petite or the energy of carignan. Give it six months to smooth out and then run with it for seven years.

Concentrated and a little thick--definitely on the bolder side--but balanced with ripe dark fruits and herbal undertones. This may improve in the intermediate term but certainly drinkable now. Good value but not complex.

Concentrated and a little thick--definitely on the bolder side--but balanced with ripe dark fruits and herbal undertones. This may improve in the intermediate term but certainly drinkable now. Good value but not complex.

Very nice, accessible, drinking very well. Not as structured as some.

Clear garnet with no rim browning. Clove, black berry, vanilla. Low acids, low tannins. White pepper. Short balanced finish. Tasting at winery.

ZAP TRADE TASTING, nose of black cherry, dusty gravel, and blackberry, same on the palate, very tasty, medium/big body, better in 2 years, hint of soft tannins, medium/long finish.
