The rare disappointment from Ridge. Sweet, woody, with some graphite, but very little fruit; drying tannin, loads of vanilla, some blackberry jam. Overly big with little joy and certainly past whatever prime it had.

Very big wine, huge fruit, a little hot. After 2 hours or so in the decanter it became better integrated, secondary flavors of earth and dried orange peel came out. Great wine, but big.

Interesting aromas of mushrooms, forest floor, cedar and maybe a little seashore. Possibly also a touch of brett. Beautiful jammy red raspberry flavors along with a strong note of stone and leather. Quite complex and mature, but still taut with tannin. Drink soon.

Ridge Zins never cease to amaze. Such a great wine. Nose of spice and vanilla, with floral and Bordeaux like nuances. Still purple to the rim and medium weight, silky mouthfeel. Stewed plums and dark cherry with some mocha on the mouth coating palate, all fully integrated. I have said it a thousand times, Paul Draper is a genius. Bravo! So sad it's my last bottle.

Ridge and July 4th - a local tradition. Enjoyed these two with Lisa and Lee as we watched the fireworks through the trees in the front yard of Eastover. Nice wine - good vintage (last two in the cellar).

This is pretty good. This has a certain gaminess to it. Brett? Anyway, it is still good. Intense zin brambly fruit even with 7 years of age. A bit of vanilla, but well integrated. 14.4% abv. Long finish.

Medium red color with slight thinning and transparency. Aromas of dust, cherries, dried cherries, and raisins. On the palate, this shows a dusty, dried fruit and fresh fruit mix with a zin-berry note that emerges with some raisin character on a medium finish. There's enough juiciness here to keep it enjoyable, but the roasted fruit distracts a bit. Drink.

Medium red in the glass with some transparency. Aromas of dust, milk chocolate, dried cherries, and red plum. On the palate, this shows a rich chocolate streak framed by plum, cherry, and blackberry. A hint of roasted fruit/raisin appears in the medium finish. A pleasant drink, but the roasted fruit and chocolate characteristics seem premature from a Ridge bottling of this age. Drink.

wife would rate very highly. tasted much better on day two (obviously I didn't think it was that awesome - otherwise there wouldn't have been a day two)

Similar tasting notes to last time. I noticed a little more heat and acid on the finish- no one else drinking with me did. I felt it was more jammy... for a Ridge at least.

Like other reviews this isn't a typical Ridge Zin, with that said this is a good Zin. Nothing special, but good. Lots of fruit (but not over the top), no real spice or pepper. Great berry nose- easy drinking. No Wowing factors, nothing to push this wine over the top- just plain good. How many times can I say good in this review... The Carignane comes through and mellows out this Zin and add a good fruit structure. Would recoomend this wine. Great wine for non-Zin fans to try and convert them to the darkside.

Big fruity zin, at least for a Ridge. It has a beautiful nose of berries, vanilla and oak. The mouthfeel is full and lucious. Long tannic finish. This is not a typical Ridge zin, but it's an excellent wine all the same. Highly recommended.

Just arrived. 18% Carignan...the nose and palate align perfectly...juicy berry, brambly, resolved structure - good quaff, but had significantly better QPR @ $30. Will consume the other bottle this year (2008)...

We got our ATP club shipment of 6 bottles and opened 1 to check it out. My first observation was that this was not the big, in your face zin that I normally expect from Ridge. It is more subtle and nuanced and I like it alot. My wife, who does prefer the fruit bomb zins, also liked it although not as much as I did. I would describe the mouth feel as creamy and pleasing.
