6th bottle of 12, purchased as a future and stored properly. Exercised caution, because I believe this wine shows considerable variation from bottle to bottle. Once again pristine cork with staining up only 3/8 inch. Can’t say that this bottle looked “young," though some previous bottles did. Much sediment as noted by others, not a problem. Decanted for 2 hours. Garnet color. But tasted even better than last time. Great attack with both fruit and weight. Black cherry on first taste, a little peppery, with long finish, good fruit that meshed well with robust tannin of medium coarseness, and complex flavor profile typical of a fine Bordeaux. From my notebook: “This wine has been inconsistent, but this bottle seems to represent this vintage of Clinet as it was meant to be. I believe the wine is fully mature. Further evolution may very well turn out to be very slow, meaning that there is no rush to consume it, but I do not see any real likelihood that it will improve from here." Bottom line, though, is that I, too, have suffered through 2 of my 1st 6 bottles that I believe were affected by brett--a problem that I have very rarely encountered in my fairly extensive experience. If acquiring this wine now, purchase only from a top vendor.

**I’m a sucker for old Bordeaux and this one brings it all. Clay filled, earth laden, light on its feet but relentlessly long finish. This clinet is still one of my favorites because of its true old school style and backbone. Drink

Six and a half years ago, I considered this wine undrinkable. Today, I found something to enjoy. It remains coarse and brutish. But the tannins have mellowed a bit and there are more mature flavors. It’s kind of heavy on Brett and displays enough pyrazines to remind me of a mature Chinon or Bourgueil. Graceless and not ver Pomerol but an intriguing drink at least.

If you like old school Bordeaux, this is for you. Not about fruit here, more about the feel of an aged Bordeaux with the earthy mushroom and truffle bouquet, coupled with depth and power. This is fully mature, while remaining vigorous and fresh. Lots to like here for old school Bordeaux thrill seekers like me. Drink

In line with note from a year ago, this is in its drinking window but is very untypical of a classic Pomerol. The nose is packed with ripe fruit, but the palate is angular and austere while perfectly balanced dominated with bell pepper, (i would interested to find out if they upped the Cabernet Franc in this vintage,).The finish seems to becoming more challenging as the early fruit fades and is over tannic but once again well balanced. This held such promise on release but seems to keep going downhill with each tasting. Perhaps it is another dumb phase which time will address. I can only hope as I have over 2 cases of it.
Aristocrat's wine dinner (My house): One double decant and several hours of slow-O before serving. Red-fruited with nice earth. This also really built with time.

Aristocrat's Wine Dinner (Joe & Khem's Place, Mpls): Very dark red/purple color. One double decant and several hours of slow-O before serving. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Youthful and bold, dark fruits, scorched earth, cassis and black raspberry, strong wood spice and a little volatility and some firmer tannins.

Aristocrat's Wine Dinner at Joe's: I believe this wine was decanted for an hour and then sat in the bottle for an additional 2+ hours prior to serving - Nose was classic Pomerol with notes of violets and cherry blossom and some purple fruit (plum). Palate showed plenty of cherry, chocolate, bramble, leather and vanilla with hints of sweet toasted oak. This is drinking quite well now, and may further improve (but likely not too much) with some additional bottle age. No hurry to drink, but will likely not be disappointed opening a bottle now. 93-94 points.

Nose of black cherry, black berry, hints of cigar box, allspice, and licorice, with a floral overtone, same on the palate, big body, tasty, almost mouth filling, on the second night this wine showed hints of cork, which explains the low score and muted fruit, medium/long finish, photo uploaded.

This has finally shifted into top gear albeit with futher development ahead. As with many of the right bank wines from 1995 this could be mistaken for a left bank wine. Bell pepper is prominent with tobacco and cherry. The palate is typical of the year with a firm tannic backbone and may not be to some tastes. The balance is impeccable and the finish is outstanding; unwavering for nearly 60 seconds. If you could forget you are drinking a Pomerol, it is a wonderful drinking experience, but it does not possess that opulent decadence that makes the category so irresistible. As with most of the vintage this is a wine for the long haul and possibly will not reach its peak for another 5 years. I gave this 6 hours in the decanter.

Get Together (MK's home): Some bell pepper on the nose with dried cherries, herbs and minerals. Palate is similar to the nose with added currants. Medium tannins with medium-full body. Nice acids give the wine lift and some elegance. In contrast to the 2000 Sociando, the pyrazines here are more muted and is a nicely integrated accent to the whole. Nicely done.

This Clinet still has softened tannins yielding to nice fruity leather and smoke. Still a muscular wine that softens with decant. Clearly in a great drinking window for another 6-10 years. Member comment from 12/24/20 is spot-on "EION.

I think it is always a treat to drink aged Bdx and this bottle did not disappoint. The red fruit is fading, but still shows up as plum, over ripe sweet cherry. The other flavors that you expect are there; pine, tobacco, loam. Surprisingly, I got a little floral notes on the nose and right at the beginning of the taste. Unfortunately, although everything is "there", it is muted and lacks depth of a great bottle of wine. The finish was average to disappointing to me. Short to medium and not enough momentum to carry the fruit and brighter flavors into the finish. So it fell off quickly and felt incomplete. Still a nice bottle and happy to have drank it. Drink now or the next couple years.

Second time of tasting this year, and it is consistent in its delivery. It is certainly in its drinking window, but I feel it will continue to evolve and improve. The nose is deep with red cherry and plum with floral notes. The palate and finish are initially very understated, but its subtlety becomes more pronounced and it shows a great depth and balance. What it lacks at this stage is that Pomerol punch that takes your breath away with the great wines. This was tipped to rival the 1989 and 1990 at release, and it will interesting to see how this develops. All the right elements are there, but the question is will they spark into life.
Someone said it doesn’t need decanting on cellar track. That was not my experience, as there was lots of sediment. I’ve had two bottles of this wine in the last couple of months from this vintage. I’d give it a solid B+. Nothing memorable. I would expect more for an aged bordeaux. Lacking a little in the fruit department for me. Nice tannins. But no real characteristics to jump out at you. Not like a lynch bagges, an aged solaia or ornellai

Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Decanted 90 minutes based on last year’s bottle, enjoyed over 2-3 hours. Dark red core with a little bricking at the rim. Rich earthy nose with cassis, smoke and cherry. Moderate aged complexity. Medium body, nice balance, acid and tannins in harmony, good fruit presence, medium finish. Excellent, with many years to go.

Nose: Ripe Cherry, Plum, Floral notes, Spices, Leather and a hint of smoke. Palate: Such a silky palate feel with just a short decant.. Red cherry, terracotta, spice, plum and slightly drying tannin. Quite finesse driven palate. Finish: A bit of smome, leather, red berries.
Loved this with an hour in the decanter. It opened beautifully, but the last glass grew tannic and slightly woody. Not sure of what to make of the change. 93+ for me. I want to see the elegance more in the next bottle.

This was absolutely lovely. Forest floor, persistent but fine tannins, a touch of blueberry and blackberry, coffee grounds. Popped and pored but improved with a few minutes of air. No need to decant. Drink now to 2025.

Firm, stoic, classically styled Pomerol with earthy plums and dark cocoa notes. The wine is mature, but the tannins really mark the character of the wine here.

Level at bottle neck and cock in great condition. Decanted and consumed in 2+ hrs. Nose still tight, with cherry, leather and vanilla. Palate restrained with earth and a little chocolate. Need longer decanting and/or aging. May be another 3-5 yrs?

Last tasted a year ago, it seems the advent of the silver anniversary has done the trick. It is ready to drink, but with a structure to stay at this level for a decade or more. The nose is opulent with ripe red cherry, plum and leather, and has a typical Pomerol elegance. It is displaying secondary notes and the tannin has resolved, but I still find it a little light mid palate. Likewise the finish is on the shorter side. Whether further aging will address these issues remains to be seen. However, it has moved forward in the last year and is a top notch Bordeaux.

Opened and decanted. Drinking very well. Slightly lighter bodied than some of the other reds. Def in the secondary spot, but still get a touch of red fruits. Went particularly well with a grits and burgundy truffle dish.

Christmas dinner, pulling a birth year wine for one of my daughters has become a tradition...decanted for about 60 minutes, drank over an hour.
Medium garnet color, minimum sediment. Nose shows dusted plums, cassis, earth notes. Elegant palate, showing old cherry, cassis, earth/mushroom (?), cedar and allspice. Medium weight and finish.
In a good spot at this point, should hold up well if wanting to cellar longer. Texture and weight medium to light, in a nice way would allow for a range of pairings. Paired nicely with our tenderloin...

Ian's 1995 Dinner (Noize, London): This one has a lighter nose, with red fruit, chalky minerals, touch of spice. No more than medium bodied, it is red-fruited in the palate, quite linear, with fresh acidity and a touch of firm tannins still. Excellent, nonetheless and may still improve.

Cellared since release, perfect cork and fill. Decanted off sediment and replaced 2 1/2 hours before serving. Drunk alongside the 1995 L'Evangile, Canon La Gaffeliere, and Trotanoy, non-blind. The others were pop and pour. Drunk over 4 hours.
Decanting was the right move,as the nose was full and rich on first sniff with plenty of fresh earth, piney forest, cassis, smoke and cherry. Moderate aged complexity. Medium body, nice balance, acid and tannins playing together well with good fruit presence, medium-long finish. Excellent, with many years to go.
I preferred this to the Trotanoy, which was also excellent but not showing as much body or complexity. The Canon la Gaffeliere had more bright fruit and intense aromas but was less complex, so just a bit behind. Others picked it first of the right bankers. Unfortunately the L'Evangile was corked.
Wines of the night were the 1988 Climens and the 1982 Gruaud Larose (beautiful and with many years to go) and 1976 Gruaud Larose (also beautiful with more of the earthy sweet complexity and less fruit, on a gentle downslope but still outstanding), part of a vertical which also included the 2000 and 1996 (both too young but holding the promise of greatness to come), and the 1990 (very good but a bit too ripe and a hint pruned).

Cellared since release, bottom 1/2" of cork stained, fill into the neck. Dark red core with a little bricking at the rim. Not verygiving, some muted fruit and dusty/musty aromas on opening. Took a full 2 hours in the glass to open, but boy did it open. Rich nose of earthy, piney forest, cassis, smoke and cherry. Moderate aged complexity. Medium body, nice balance, acid and tannins in harmony, good fruit presence, medium finish. Excellent, with many years to go.

Served blind in the middle of a lineup of much younger wines, this was clearly "different." Bricking at the edge made it clear there was some age on the wine. Leather, dried flowers and damp earth smells accented lingering black fruit. A smooth, almost resolved palate entry gave way to some lingering tannins in the middle, making it clear that there's still some room for this to develop. The fruit and savory notes merged very well, making for a cohesive, friendly flavor profile. Only medium weight overall, the finish was slightly clipped, indicating that further decanting would have been helpful. The wine had been decanted 2 hours prior to tasting, but by the end when we could re-taste before the reveal the finished had begun to flesh out. Plenty of time in hand for this wine.

Last tasted 8 months ago, this is really starting to hit its stride. The nose is now opulent with plum, red cherry, and leather and is starting to feel like a first class Pomerol. It is complex on the palate, and the tannin is no longer over dominant. The finish is excellent and well balanced, but at this stage it is still a little light mid palate, and harsh towards the end of the finish. I am sure time will rectify this, but at this stage give it 6+ hours in the decanter. I think as a whole the 1995 vintage is finally coming into its own, and losing the over tannic profile it's been painted with. 94+

Doing very nicely from magnum; plum, game, leathery nose - just a hint of funk. not in the top tier of clinet but certainly evolving in a very positive direction. Still not quite ready in this format, it should deliver on its full potential in about 5 years.

Third bottle of a six-pack cellared since release, the first bottle was opened at age 15, the second at 20. Perfect cork and fill into the neck, dark red core with a little bricking at the rim. After an hour in the glass, there is a robust forward nose of earthy, piney forest, cassis, smoke and cherry. The sweet aged Bordeaux complexity is starting to show in earnest. Medium body, nice balance, tannins have mellowed out in the last 3 years, good fruit presence, medium finish. Excellent, with many years to go and potential for added complexity with further aging.

On release this was tipped to potentially aspire to be one the premium vintages of the estate, and indeed its first years held real promise. It started to lose its way a few years ago, but now seems to have reasserted itself. It is now entered its drinking window, but at this stage, needing a few hours of aeration. It possesses a deep fruit driven nose of dark berry fruits with subtle hints of strawberry and apple., and certainly is now possessing typical Pomerol characteristics. The palate mirrors the fruit, but with a typical 1995 tannic profile. The depth and finish are good, and with a potential for further evolvement as the tannin softens, and it is certainly a wine with at least a couple of decades ahead of it.

Incredibly fresh nose of green pepper, red fruit and allspice, married to a silky palate of more red fruit. Very rich and well balanced, but not overdone or jammy at all. Early maturity but lovely, drinkable and classic right bank cab franc/Merlot notes.

A wine which closed down a couple of years ago, and had had such potential in its youth, and which I had almost written off in the interim. I am pleased to say it has suddenly started to reassert itself, and is starting to taste like a top notch Pomerol. It still is in development, but the nose is full of ripe berry fruit with hints of apple which continue onto the palate. The tannin is still strong but is well balanced and with depth and complexity, and a good finish. Needing a good time in the decanter at present, the tannin is rapidly sweetening and a wine that in time will live up to its initial expectation.

Nearly the perfect archetype of a 2 decade old Pomerol. There was a little powdery texture to the slightly astringent tannins, yet they didn't interfere with the overall experience. The texture added body to very nice dark red fruit. There were also very developed tertiary notes of tobacco, mushroom, wet soil, leather, and cedar. It improved as it warmed, was singing after being in the glass for 45 minutes, and was best at room temperature.

Ferocious tannins but also high concentration. Dark as Hades in the glass. Tannins are not young-tasting, but quite astringent, making me think this is what this wine is destined to be. Don't think it's going to mellow any time soon if ever. Tar, cigar box, cherry and a little pepper on the nose. Heavy on cassis on the palate, along with raspberry, light vanilla, and a touch of peat. Hotter than I'd expect in the middle and back. A very aggressive and unapologetic style. I respect it more than like it. My dining companion liked it more than I did. This is what the end of the world is going to taste like.

A nice wine that clearly bears the marks of the 1995 vintage, with its strictness to the tannins. There is concentration, fruit and aromatics, but the wine shows an austerity in its plummy finish that will appeal to some more than others.
Dark ruby with slight hints of brick, perfumed nose of tobacco, cassis, mocha, menthol, vanilla, black cherry and soda, lean and gripping on the attack followed by layered red and black fruit, black tea, juicy acidity, iron and dusty tannins, racy finish with loads of cherry, acidity, earth and "fill in the blank"
Note: tasted like an 89 the first night but a 94 on by the second day, much darker, fuller and complex

Served blind. My WOTN for sure of the 8 or so we tasted. Plenty of tobacco leaf, with a real freshness and aging quality that is starting to emerge nearly 25 years later. Yet, there is no fade here and the balance was wonderful, with plenty of tannin to hold this wine for a lot more time.
This wine was drinking superbly a couple of years ago but then closed down. Having left it for a year its is certainly starting to open up again. Possessing a delicate nose of cherry and strawberry it balances nicely in the mouth with very firm tannins which have resolved just enough to give sufficient roundness on the palate and allow the fruit to shine through. It has a very long and firm finish. However, the full potential of the wine is being hampered at present by a wall of tannin and although palatable, this needs to resolve to allow the wine to become something very special. I suspect that as with many 1995's it could be only a matter of months for this to happen.
Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chevalier Fine Wines - Chicago IL): Tasted double blind. Easily identified as Bordeaux, but I thought St Emilion. More structure than pleasurable fruit right now, but with good concentration and potential. Good spice notes along with darkly roasted coffee and licorice. Still firm, with the rugged structure of the vintage. 90 point potential, but not there yet.

Art on the walls then the plate & glass (Untitled at the Whitney): Decanted and followed over several hours. A massive wine dominated by structure, alcoholic heat and a formidable wall of tannins. I found nothing pleasurable. Five of us left quite a bit of this in the decanter. Disappointing.

At 21, the wine is starting to show its age in the color. Flowers, smoke, licorice, black cherry, mocha and minty aromatics are right where you can find them. Even with 2 hours of decanting, the tannic backbone found in the 1995 vintage remains. There is a lot of plummy fruit, coupled with a blast of dark chocolate in the finish. But this is more of a structured, masculine style of Pomerol that is not going to change its character with more age. This is going to appeal more to lovers of classic styled Bordeaux.

This bottle was quite structured, firm and masculine, with a tannic spine. You could tell there was a lot of fruit, with good ripeness, but this example was more for the mond than the soul. Looking at my notes from a few years ago, this is not headed in a good direction and at 21 years of age, that direction is not likely to change.

Second bottle of a six-pack cellared since release, the first bottle was opened at age 15. Perfect cork and fill into the neck, dark red core with a little bricking at the rim. It takes about 90 minutes for this to really open up. Strong nose of earthy, piney forest, mouth-watering umami, smoke and cherry with hints of emerging sweet aged Bordeaux complexity. Medium body, really nice balance, somewhat harsh tannins during the first hour mellow out with time and integrate nicely, fruit still present throughout, medium finish. Excellent with further upside potential as tertiary components should become more prominent with more time. The fruit is there and like the better '86s, this will reward patience.

This one took a little while to open up. When it did, there were lots of red fruits, lots of truffle, mineral, a bit of leather, and tobacco. Still has lots of tannins to integrate. Good acidity. Impressive length on the finish. This is a wine with very nice complexity that I expect to drink well for for many years. I would probably wait at least another year to open a bottle to allow the tannins to integrate further.

better than I was expecting (I haven't had much luck with the '95 vintage). It's lost the harshness, tannic shell is gone. It's now a nice wine. Still has interest, some tannin, acid, fruit. Good wine, now enjoyable to drink. Not worried about any decline, drink over the next decade or so.

Not as seductive or charming as previous bottles, perhaps the toughness of the 1995 vintage is starting to show through. The wine was much more interesting on the nose than the palate. The finish displayed some hardness to the tannins and was a bit drying in the finish. Decanting for 2 hours helped, but this wine might be slowly drying out.

One of the top wines from a vintage better known for its rustic, tannic, nature. Juicy chocolate covered plums, truffles and floral aromas, round, soft textures and a long, opulent, fresh, black cherry finish are found in this wine. As it creeps closer to its 20th birthday, this has moved into the prime time drinking stage.

Served at an over-the-top wedding (thanks, Mark!), this was decanted for 2 hours and was a bit too warm, but nevertheless showed its stuff very well. A classic Pomerol nose of red fruit and spice is followed by a lush, jammy and complex palate. Restrained and old-school in style, with a gentle evolution throughout the night.

Crushed it with Mr. Lipchin and Mr. Pellegrino. Completely outclassed the cali cabs and syrahs we were drinking. The tannin trademark of the vintage is there, but better managed than many other examples of '95s I have had. Expressive nose at this age. Yummy!

After many disappointing experiences with the '95 Clinet, my luck has taken a turn for the better, as the last two bottles have been quite good. Popped, poured and consumed over the course of 2 hours. Notes of plum, black truffle, star anise and crushed rocks. Medium-bodied, with ripe and velvety tannins; good grip and focus on the long finish.

In a year filled with numerous hard, austere wines, 1995 Clinet is one of the top wines that overcomes the style of the vintage. With its chocoalte, floral, truffle, earth, black cherry, smoke and plum nose, the wine is pure silk and velvet, ending in a lush, sensuous, sweet, cocoa, earth and black raspberry finish. There is no hurry to drink this as it has the stuffing to age and develop for another 15-20 years. The wine was not decanted, just popped, poured and enjoyed!

I felt the wine was still a little tight....would wait a couple of years. But still rich, full black fruit, and very Pomerol. Had along with a long pile of left banks on turkey night. Tasted like the California ringer in the bunch. I may be under-scoring here....long night.

Color was starting to get brickish...bought this btl off of winebid so that may make it suspect. There was minimal bouquet and it seemed closed down. The wine had decent fruit but was quite tannic and never seemed to open up despite a 2 hour decant before drinking. Disappointing based on the price...probably a sub-optimal bottle.

This is a sexy style of Pomerol. With a bouquet of chocolate covered flowers, plum liqueur, truffle, fennel, spice and black cherries, the wine coats your palate with opulently textured black plums and black raspberry jam. Packed and stacked with layers of ripe fruit, Clinet was able to avoid the harsh style of tannins that plagued so many wines from this difficult vintage. The delicious Bordeaux could still improve, but it is drinking so well now, if you have more than a few bottles, it's time to open one and see for yourself. This is the last great Clinet of the Arcaute regime. It was a long 13 year wait until 2008, when the new owner, Ronan Laborde produced another stellar wine at this level of quality.

Did not spend enough time with it but what I remember is that this Clinet was somewhat austere, same style as the '96 but with even more austerity. Now this is not to say that there's no fruit but just that everything is restrained. Lovely though and but needs more time to open.

This must be the best Clinet for me. Very clean and deep (12.5%) reminds me of Petrus. Fruit is great as same as Trotanoy, sexy and dramatic like a woman after taking a bath. Really attractive, hints of smoke from cigar-burning, just smell it again and again, I almost forget to drink.
Medium-bodied, silky texture but has some edge of 1995 vintage, round and delicious.
Aftertaste is ground zero, silence and then I can feel my heartbeat, sensational long finished.
So sad...
After 1 hour, the wine is shutting down, going to sleep but still have sth left to be enjoy. Anyway, I won't give up for this wine and I will keeping the faith to follow drinking it again in every 1-2 years.
ps. According to my last tasting note, this bottle should be full-bodied after 2.30 hours if it awake. I do really want to drink it again when it wakes up.

Meh -- my second disappointing experience with the '95 Clinet. Both bottles were in pristine condition, with sound corks, tight seals, and perfect fill levels. The color of the wine is sound, with no amber at the rim, but the bouquet is quite "ordinary" with aromas of black fruit, a hint of spice and flower, and a touch of earth. Medium bodied, but without much grip or structure, a bit muddy on the mid-palate, and a unfocused on the finish. This is a wine to drink while looking at the label, because if I'd tasted it blind I'm sure I would have thought it some $25 domestic merlot. Disappointing

New Chapter - 2011 (Imperial Treasure @ Great World City): Alcohol :: 12.5% Highly expressive nose of tobacco leaves, cigar box, leather, blackberry, liquorice and wild gaminess background that's very focus and offer almost seductive perfume. Fully mature, this medium bodied wine offer lots of secondary notes of angelica root, dried herbs that is well-balance by the fresh mineral and spices along with espresso bitterness and acid, with mild red and blackberry fruits, soft integrated tannin and texture with light juicy finish. Drinking at it's peak now. Buy - No.

No ullage, pristine cork. Dark red core, minimal lightening at rim. Nose initially showing a prominent naphtha/dry cleaner solvent note - some kind of volatile flaw? - but underneath as it slowly blows off there is plum, cassis, tobacco and cedar. Full bodied with rich very ripe fruit, raisiny notes, lots of tannins, could this have been heat damaged? But no maderization. Long finish. Judgment reserved. Next day the solvent notes are gone and the tannins are mellower, lots of big fruit, cassis, plum, tobacco, forest floor. Excellent showing on day 2. Still not sure if this bottle got overheated somewhere along the way or if it was just in a funky state at first. Will wait a couple of years before opening the next one.

This 95 Chateau Clinet was a well balanced soft wine. The color was deep purple and was muddy giving it a brown hue. What I expected for this 95. The nose was delightful and earthy with green peppers, Lavender and a strong dirty wet leaves feel, kind of a wet cigar. Very earthy and intriguing. We decanted for about 20 minutes and did not get much of a change from right out of the bottle. This wine did drop off in about an hour. The palate was eloquent, velvety and soft. However I felt it was at its peak which is too bad because I could not get this score into the 90s. Had very smooth transitions and was very balanced. Veggie forward with flowers, cedar, tobacco, green pepper, and some espresso. Little blackberry and Asian spices and soil through. This is a solid wine and I enjoyed it but can only score it an 89 because it just did not jump out enough. Nice multi-layers but I would have liked more fruit in it. Borderline at 130 bucks.

Bottle was in pristine condition; opened about an hour before dinner. An opaque purple color, with no sign of amber. Aromas of aged beef, cassis, flower and earth; had hoped for more complexity. Medium to full bodied. Good concentration, firm structure, prominent tannins; needs more time in the cellar.

This bottle is not good condition but still showing great characters.
Very clean and deep in nosing. The good structure, elegant texture and very nice in development. More dense and firm tannin after 3 hours. Silky at the beginning, delicious, aggressive and full-bodied with time. ( means too young and long way to go )
Aftertaste is long, compact and powerful. True Great Wine !!!

Cellar Raid at ES (Extraspace): A pity this was a flawed bottle. Hard and tannic with receding fruit and just that dash of wet cardboard towards the end. It didn't blow away even after a while in the glass.

Cellar Raid at ES (Extra Space, Singapore): Not going to score this because a tiny bit of TCA seemed to have stripped the palate of some essentials. Pity, because the underlying balance was really nice. Nose opened with some fish and rubber. That blew off to show a touch of cherries and currants. Much the same on the palate. Truncated dry finish. Sad.

Gorgeous red fruit, tobacco, cedar, espresso. A touch of mint tickled my nose occasionally . Great acidity and concentration, great fruit flavors and secondary aromas and flavors developing. So, why wasn't I more excited? A little thinness on the mid-palate? Finish a little short? Not sure. Just didn't love it.

Dark ruby red. Deep fragrant nose of soil-inflected blackberry, cassis, and Cuban tobacco with distinctly minty Asian spice notes that seem to appear in the best Pomerol with some bottle age. In the mouth, sweet and ripe flavors of blackberry and soil tones on entry, with the spice notes dominating the long finish. Not quite the unctuous fruit monster I remember when drinking this wine young, now this is a beautifully balanced, multiply layered wine that is really showing its aristocratic side now. One has to feel privileged to drink this wine, wish I had more…

Inky purple colour. Great, intense scents of chocolate-mocha and tobacco emerging from the glass. The bouquet really opened up after 2 hours in the glass. In the mouth the wine was nice and voluptuous in size, quite smooth and velvet-like in texture and wonderfully dense at the core. The flavour impression was one of chocolate-truffle and vanilla spice, mixed in with a touch of pudding. Superbly long on the finish. This wine was, of course, a long way from maturity, yet a real pleasure to drink now - not backwards and hard at all.

I’d give it a solid B+. Nothing memorable. I would expect more for an aged bordeaux. Lacking a little in the fruit department for me. Nice tannins. But no real characteristics to jump out at you.

Looking at my notes from a few years ago, this is not headed in a good direction and at 21 years of age, that direction is not likely to change.

Impressive length on the finish. This is a wine with very nice complexity that I expect to drink well for for many years. I would probably wait at least another year to open a bottle to allow the tannins to integrate further.

Not as seductive or charming as previous bottles, perhaps the toughness of the 1995 vintage is starting to show through. The wine was much more interesting on the nose than the palate.

Nice bottle of bordeaux that drank well but did not overly impress.

This was smooth on the palate, but the finish was a bit short after having been in the decanter for a couple of hours.

Nice, but with a bit of a bothersome green streak. Was this improperly handled before I bought it?

Inky purple colour. Great, intense scents of chocolate-mocha and tobacco emerging from the glass. The bouquet really opened up after 2 hours in the glass. In the mouth the wine was nice and voluptuous in size, quite smooth and velvet-like in texture and wonderfully dense at the core. The flavour impression was one of chocolate-truffle and vanilla spice, mixed in with a touch of pudding. Superbly long on the finish. This wine was, of course, a long way from maturity, yet a real pleasure to drink now - not backwards and hard at all.

Weiner: Distinctly fruity smell, dark blackberry, musky, somewhat closed in.
