1985 La La's are getting harder to find, and taste. All I can say is, what a wine! Here you enjoy a full-bodied, rich, opulent, exotically textured, silky fresh wine with notes of smoke, thyme, garden herbs, brown sugar, dried flowers, violets, and sweet, red pit fruits and berries. The sensuous finish is bright, silky, vibrant, long, and frankly, seamless.

Drinking with the other two LAs from 85. I like La Landonne the most b/c La Mouline for me is too soft and smooth, and La Turque (which should be right in the middle) is even more rough compare to La Landonne. Maybe b/c of the bottle difference. I think this time La Landonne is right in the middle and has a little bit of everything. ------ It has more purple in color compare to La Landonne On nose: more perfume, more aroma intensity. On Palate: it's much smoother compare to the other two LAs. Very intense and mouth coating, but not deep. Sweet. but not enough structure. It does not have the clean feeling for its finish.
After more aeration, there is more tannin, it's not that soft anymore, but still, I couldn't feel its back bone. Long finish with sweetness and endless softness. Too feminine for me.

Rhone & Champagne x BBQ Meats: Perfect fill, and perfect wine for that matter. Reserved, composed, graceful, really elegance in a glass. Sweet spice, soft cherry fruit, deep heat, lightly caramelized brown sugar, softly herbal, tiny greenness, incredibly heat in the back, woody, really all the flavors in perfect balance, from a singular point slowly expanding into all dimensions. Smooth, incredibly deep and energetic on the palate, warmly so at first, but there is enough sharpness to cut through everything. The heat lingers forever, as it spreads across taste buds towards the front of palate again. Didn’t fade even at the bottom of the throat. At the same time it is so rich, lifted, almost chewy, with a lingering cherry acidity that keeps it fresh. Mouthwatering afterwards, with mindblowingly deep spice elements all around. I thought in characters this is the RC of Rhone. As good as it gets. 100

Darker character bottle, with hints of roasty notes. An intact but below average example of this wine. Somewhat impacted by bret. The '85 should be better than this, and usually is.

Stunning. Clean and crisp. Really fresh and vibrant. Perfectly red crystal clear liquid. Loads of meat, grill, cherries and red candy, spices and white and black pepper. So much nuance. My WOTN in a huge line up of Coche, DRC and Gugial.

I'll admit. I was totally wrong about this wine. I thought it would be a huge overpowering wine. Instead it was incredibly elegant and balanced. Seamless. The balance was burg like on the palate and there was a finesse that reminded me of a 1996 Lafite I once had.

It was an interesting flight. This wine started slowly, even if it was 2 hours before decanted, The nose was more reluctant than his opponent, earthy, pepper, spicy, but in the palate it shows his mightieness and elegance, great acidity structure, burgundy style in the finish, a refreshing saltieness, at least 20 more years, for me didn't reach his peak. Needs lot of time and air. At the beginning 95, at the end 97+. We will see what will happen

When is this not spellbinding? Where do you start? Is it with the floral, black raspberry, stone, kirsch and peppery nose? Or the exotically, silky, textured, rich palate presence? Or do you begin with dessert and dream about the erotic, kinky, sensuous, sexy finish? Food for thought, or is that wine for thought?

this wine has aged quite well, but is clearly showing it's age. Tobacco, earth, stems, tea, pencil lead. The secondary flavors have grown as the fruit has receded. A lovely wine, but past the point of hedonistic. It is profound and I highly recommend trying it if you have the chance. I would love to have a time machine to see how it has evolved.

Woodsmoke, dark fruit, sweet spice, tar on the nose. Deep and dark palate, marred only slightly by a modest muddling of flavors on the backpalate. Long smokey finish. A notch less articulate than the '88 on the palate. Fully mature. Consumed with wild boar.

Spellbinding from start to finish! Words cannot truly express the complexity and textural components of this wine. But if you're willing to read my note, I'm going to try...
Licorice, stone, smoke, flowers, fresh herbs, assorted cherries and plum liqueur are impossible to ignore. The wine combines silk and velvet with lush, exotic, sensuous textures that make you take a step back. The finish, which remains at least 60 seconds is filled with life. Picture fresh, sweet, exotic and erotic layers of ripe and over ripe cherries, kirsch and raspberry liqueur that does not want to quit, even after the wine has long since gone where it needed to go. At 30 years of age, this is clearly perfection in a glass, and it should stay here for at least another decade or longer if you have well-stored bottles.

Riveting in every way, this is about as good as wine gets. The smoky, black raspberry, earthy, spicy, bacon fat, cherry and thyme filled perfume popped without decanting. Fresh, full bodied, concentrated, mature, yet youthful, this flamboyant, sensuous wine really lingers, long after its left your palate.

I attended a fantastic La La tasting, courtesy of Angelo and Fred. The nose was stunning, bacon, cherry, charcoal, darker fruit, and some pencil. Fabulously complex nose of truffles, pepper, violets, animal fur and a certain feral quality. On the palate, this is just wild with incredible flavors of baconfat, menthol, roasted meats, minerals and floral note perhaps from the Viognier. Full, rich, exotic and deeply concentrated, this is the wild side of La Mouline and it is fantastic. The finish is extraordinarily complex and there is a deep core of pure fruit suggesting that this wine still has a long way to go. Fabulous!

Off the hook. Off the charts. Off the rating scale! It's impossible, at least for me to find the right words to express how this incredible wine felt as it coated your every tasting receptor with its endless layers of silky, exotic, erotic, sexed up flavors and textures. This perfect, pleasure machine is a wine that tasters should open at their peril. Once experienced, you will want more. Once you see the current price, unless you are friends with Warren Buffet, you run the risk of feeling slightly deflated.

The nose alone was 100 Pts. An endless array of earthy, spicy, floral, peppery, smoky scents with fresh, pure, ripe red cherries, black cherries, raspberry and bacon fat tossed in for good measure. In the mouth, there is an exotic texture that cannot be found in any other wine. The pure, sensuous, hedonistic, fresh mouth feel builds to a crescendo that lasts over sixty seconds. Few legendary wines live up their status. 1985 Guigal La Mouline not only lives up to its billing, it might even surpass it!

Stuffed with ripe and over ripe delicious, fat, sexy cherries and blackberries that slip, slide and glide over every inch, nook and cranny of your palate. The Cote Rotie wine offers intense purity with a lusty, luscious, sexy personality. Opulent and glycerin filled, this is pure hedonism. This will probably improve, but it’s so good now, if I had a bottle left in my cellar, it would be next to impossible to keep my hands off it.

Saturday Dinner.: We had planned on finishing up with most of the 80's Moulines, but at the end of three long days/nights, we wisely decided to shrink it down to 85 and 88. The 85 is frequently a mind blowing wine, which tonight limited itself to being great. A perfect bottle quality wise. Showed all of Mouline typicity, but interestingly was somewhat less flamboyant than it typically shows.

How any Cote Rotie, not make that how can any wine be this good? Nosing this wine is akin to touring a perfume factory.
