Definately a mature wine, maybe half-brick brown/reddish and very complex on the nose, there is so much going on. Reduced fruit, even more awesome than I remember it back in 2009. I still have a few bottles left that I will keep for many more years.

Sunday lunch with the Wine-Ark boys (Porcine, Oxford Street): Savoury, slightly meaty, a little pepper, blackberry and raspberry, alcohol helps with that peppery impression. Acidity is juicy which lends freshness but there is a fair mid palate grip as well as plenty of breadth. Yum.

IWS reprise (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Bright red berry fruit, plenty of sweet spice, cream, a little sour cherry underpin with orange peel, alcohol prickle, touches of garrigue and, with time, the fruit ripens and thickens. Juicy acidity, alcohol warmth helps to make the mouth water, red berry fruit, a little muted, tannins are medium minus intensity but silky and persist long. On the finish leather and that orange peel note though not bitter or astringent. Nice.

From Coravin. dusty baked red berry underpinned by black pepper, garrigue and charcuterie. With time some baked earth, slight mushroom and leather...and it smells 'fresh'. In the mouth it's juicy, fresh and fleshy with baked red berry, dusty spice and black pepper growing on the long finish. Soft tannins and a little alcohol warmth. Easy.

From Coravin. Red berry, garrigue, leather, earth, slight herbaceous underpin and a touch of meat. Juicy, stewed red berries, slight herbaceous notes, tannins are silkier than I remember, touch of alcohol warmth. Hmm.

Coravin fun - Ready to drink (Kennards, Waterloo): From Coravin. A little bit flat and a little bit meaty/funky initially. With agitation it shows baked red berries and cherries over a little savoury spice and baked herbs. On the palate its juicy and savoury, quite baked fruits, herbs and peppery spice before chalky tannic burr across the mid palate closes things down. Hmm. Bit out of whack but historical tasting teaches me that if I leave this for another ten years it will come good.

I've previously rated this wine 90-91 but it didn't show quite as well this time. Still, full bodied and integrated, just lacking depth. All the same, it's a nice "casual" wine. Drink up.

Good, enjoyable wine that worked well with Mediterranean food and stood up on its own from nose to finish. However, like my previous tastings, I feel it lacks the character of a CDP, failing to transport me to Rhône valley. Still a bit rustic (which helped with the food), I'd drink within 2 years for fear that more aging emphasizes the lack of character.

Needs air, but then reveals a great chateauneuf-nose, with red berrie fruit, leather and roses. Taste is medium bodied, good length and no signs of alcohol. Not extremely complex, a more Classic style.

Ruby red in the glass. Predominantly grenache and syrah, with some mourvedre, Abeille-Fabre vineyard, 14.5% vol. Bright, fresh berries on the nose, accompanied by a subtle spice. Overall a fairly tight nose, lacking some expression. Fruit-forward flavors of black cherry and brambleberry, immediately followed by dark chocolate. This wine is full-bodied with balanced tannins and a juicy acidity. The finish is slightly bitter but would be balanced out nicely with a hearty meal.

I cannot work out whether the 2005 CNDP's are simply fearsome, long lived wines, requiring years yet to show their charms, or will remain uncharacteristically (for S Rhone) hard and uninteresting. This wine seems to be in adolescence. Deep colour and discrete nose of red and dark fruit but nothing complex or evolved. No more than medium-bodied. Firm and quite long. Wait and hope...

From magnum. Lovely fruit/herbs-dominated nose with a lot of youth. Differs a great deal from the 750 ml (same vintage) I drank just a couple of months ago. Sweet berries, slightly perfyme and some jam on the nose. Taste is heady, fruity with some nice minerals in the end. The wine is in a good phase right now, but there's no hurry for the magnums. Drink within 5 years for the magnums.

This was stored at about 70F for two years. Not sure if that adversely affected the flavor. Didn't taste anything off but not a lot of complexity. Silky texture and unusually oaky for a CDP. Almost like a cab based Bordeaux. Very flat finish was a little disappointing. But an interesting CDP.

Dark berries, spices on the nose. Must be a greater deal of mourvedre in this wine, compared to other CdP. Maybe 20 %? Strong, dark berry-dominated taste with some nice minerals and peppers. This wine has the darkest taste of all the CdP I have drunk so far. No jam present at all.

Intense spicy and herbal nose, with more air it becomes more of a black fruit and cherry mix - Very smooth texture, some black und blue fruit coming forth, a bit of toast, very rounded but with little pressure. Good finish considering fruit and length but with quite a bit of heat as well. I expected more at this price point - many simple Cotes du Rhone out there will outperform this at half its price or even less. Btw on day 2 it already started losing its edge, so probably nothing for the long haul.

Improved considerably with longer decanting. Color is dark ruby w signs of maturity, but no brick-red yet. Nose is rich, a little smoke and black pepper but mostly dark berries. Palate is more a little weaker but more subtle than excpected and the rather high alcohol content is well integrated. There is fruit left, body is medium, the wine has started to smoothen around the edges , but there is still a fair amount of tannins - I'm going to keep my other bottle for another four to five years. Works really well with mutton, but I don't think this one is a stand-alone wine,, not interesting enough for that.

Still very young. Took around 2 hours to open up. Intially it has this Aussie Shiraz or SGM character. It is not really deep or complex like's Pegau or Beaucastel, but pretty enjoyable. Very bright and mix with typical web tobacco nose. Bit of oak and coffee in the taste. Great QPR.

Fruit driven nose with black pepper spice and some floral components. Finely balanced in the mouth, medium to full-bodied, red and dark fruits, black pepper. Perfectly balanced acidity. This just builds and builds. It has a "just ripe" grape and cherry odour to it, though as it opens up, the fruit fades to the background - it's always there, but constantly changes dance partners. First, it's black and red peppercorns, then violets and geraniums, then sage and anise. Such depth, such piercing aromatics - it's like a funnel, sucking you in. This is still a baby, so give it at least two hours in carafe before drinking. Drink now-2015. Food pairing: Classic lamb with herbs.

great bouquet of red berries, violets, barnyard and dark fruit, well-balanced, full, with dark cherries, plum, fresh, wet soil, flowers, pepper, and some woody notes, the finish grips for quite a while, decant for two hours if consuming soon, air does the juice justice, complex, velvety mouthfeel, had with sweet peppered steak strips, the earth is well-displayed

Cherries, red berries and kirsch on the fresh, fruity nose. On the palate sour cherries and other red fruits, sweet spices, kirsch, a hint of black coffee and refreshing acidity. Full of flavor, very balanced, not tiring or over the top as some other wines from this region. A serious, but subtle wine. Still quite young, will be better in a few years.

great bouquet of red berries, violets, barnyard and dark fruit, well-balanced, full, with dark cherries, plum, fresh, wet soil, flowers, pepper, and some woody notes, the finish grips for quite a while, decant for two hours if consuming soon, air does the juice justice, complex, velvety mouthfeel, had with sweet peppered steak strips, the earth is well-displayed

Intially the nose was quite restrained. Eventually it revealed a complex peppery spiciness.
Very attractive in the mouth, fruity and spicy with a warm wid-palate, very long. A classy wine.

Wine Education Service Chateauneuf du Pape Tasting (LSE, London): Sweet baked fruit aromas and slightly peppery. Chewy fruit, hot and tannic, this is a big wine though not got the structure for the long term.
