4 hour decant. This seems to be sufficiently mature and harmonious to judge better than our PnP a few years ago. Yet my score is actually lower this time. It's a good wine that merits its price. It's not a 100 pointer.

The wine looks crimson colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like raisin, mineral, bark and cinnamon. It tastes like prune, red currant, black currant (cassis) and bready.

Decanted 3 hours. Very interesting blend of Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon. Smells like old world style Bordeaux, fruit forward taste, but not the Cab makes it more elegant than your average Malbec. Would suggest pairing with a pork dish, perhaps mushrooms.

Smooth, subtle nose with smells of vanilla, stewed black fruit and expensive new leather shoes. Intriguing - wanted to stay with the smell for awhile. (The wine was decanted about 3.5 hours before consumption.) Tiny bit of alcohol appears on the nose but doesn’t detract. Lovely mouth feel - blackberry and currant with a streak of red fruit, slightly candied. A wine that really coats the mouth with fine tannins appearing only on the finish, carrying that finish for 30 seconds or so. Really a lush and luscious experience. Not sure what age will do for it so because I don’t think it will do much, I don’t really care. I’ll just drink the rest of these over the next 3 - 5 years.
Wonderful color, dark inky purple, and with, according to Tim, "All the best attributes of bark and plum" on the nose. This wine obviously possesses gorgeous purity of fruit, and with structure that makes one believe this will last " a looooong time". Drink 2023-2043.

From an Enomatic sample. Very Cab S aromatics, almost raw impression with highly perfumed nose and a good dose of oak. From the aromatic intensity one would perhaps thought this was more of a fruit bomb, but not at all. Fine tannin and medium body impression. Very Bordeaux like but I guess that’s what the wine was intended to be. Needs at least another 5 maybe 10 more years in the cellar.

Popped and poured this one. Black fruits, mint/pencil shavings, some flowers and a hint of vanilla on the nose. Balanced on the palate . Medium tannins and medium acidity . Medium -bodied . Medium finish. Paired with pork braised in red wine, mashed potatoes and garden salad . Plenty of life ahead !!

Medium purple. Not a hint of ageing. Long legs. Sweet black fruit nose of plums, cherries and licorice. Palate is an elegant, controlled explosion of fruit and malbec silkiness within a net of tannin. Very well constructed. None of that in your face new world fruit bombs. Still tannin cloaked 60 minutes later. Already drinking now but will be better in the next 2-5 years. Wouldn't agree with the 100 points from J Suckling. It's a good wine but not exceptional and I fear, a tad expensive at USD$100 for which it gets marked down. DBA Wah Lok DO61

Not quite up to what it was like a couple months ago but still a pretty good piece of work. A bit of elegance and muted power. The malbec provides a bunch of flavor interest. I’ll hold off a while on the last few of these.

Medium to deep ruby colored. Very nice medium intense nose with lots of cherries, some violets and soft tar notes. On the palate surprisingly fresh - red cherries, dark cherries, blueberries and some licorice. Medium (+) bodied with a refreshing medium (+) intense acidity. Tannins are smooth and completely integrated. This is quite elegant, not a heavy fruit bomb. Great fruit depth and a nice complexity. The overall balance is beautiful. It’s a superb wine, not the most complex Bordeaux blend I ever tried, but it’s really smooth, elegant and enjoyable. The finish is long and leaves a velvety touch on your tongue. It’s already in a beautiful spot, just give it some air. It’s not meant to age for another two decades but it feels like it could easily hold another ten years. (IG)

PnP. Medium body. Very smooth and elegant. This is not a powerful, overwhelming wine: rather a bit shy, but very delicious. Black and red cherry, licorice. Flowery. Could perhaps have more aroma, but very enjoyable. Will it develop in the next few years? Perhaps, hard to say: it is good to drink now. Tannins have largely receded. I would give it a 93+, my wife liked it a lot, though. Thus 94.

Bordeaux blend from Mendoza, Argentina, with 2/3rds Malbec and the rest CS.
@Mika Tyson Teau thanks for spoiling us, and prepping this for over 5 hours; Even at the start if its drinking window, it's already showing refined and polished tannins.
Blackberry and plums with a sophisticated and lasting mouthfeel, the cherries and silky vanilla coming through at the finish was very enjoyable.
Deserving of the JS100? I am not quite sure today, but perhaps down the road in 5 years or more. Cheers!

This Argentinan Bdx blend is 62% Malbec and 38% Cab Sauv. Still young it nevertheless displays great structure and balance, very rounded tannins, juicy black fruits, blackberry, blueberry, dark chocolate, and cherry. Paired wonderfully with grilled steak.

Vinetasters: This and That (Chicago, IL): Served double blind. A significant step up from the Clos Apalta alongside. This is much more in balance, with some leathery notes and grainy tannins. Restrained, with lovely earthy tones and high-acid black fruits, this is obviously too young, but I expect for it to improve with time. I particularly like the balance of earthy notes with the high-altitude fruit notes.
Appealing,bordeaux-esque nose of blue and black berries, blond tobacco, floral aromas, spices and subtle minerality.Very good ripeness, rich, with nuances of dark chocolate; builts quite intensely on the palate.Very fine tannins and lovely weight.Such purity of flavors, this is drinking beautifully now and should be even better over the next 5 years.

Definitely still young but opened up with time. Deep purple core brighter at the edges. Cherry predominant on the nose. Loads of dark fruit, with some leather and earthiness. Could use a longer finish and a little more acidity to score higher but very nice.

Excellent.

Saw this on the wine list at Mariposa restaurant in Sedona, AZ, and decided to try it knowing that I have another 7 bottles cellared at home. Very good, but certainly not mind blowing at this early stage of development. It'll have to transform over time to merit the professional scores. Can it? For sure, given the tannins and structure, which are there in spades. My rating is for enjoyment today. I have hope, but not experience, that it'll be notably better in 5+ years.

One of Argentinas most famous wines. A joint venture between Terrazas de los Andes and Ste Émilion's legendary Premier Grand Cru Classe A producer Chateau Cheval Blanc. 62% Malbec and 38% Cab Sauv. I decided to try 1 of my 3 bottles young and to my surprise very drinkable. Silky smooth and fully integrated oak and tannins. Unbelievable finesse and balance. A wonderful nose. Will add additional complexity with additional age. Drinking this wine pushes out of the mind all negative thoughts and worries.

Clearly a very accomplished and special wine, the quality is quite obvious right out of the bottle. This is well balanced with structure, inviting dark fruit and some acidity. Clearly young, but still showing quite well. The sense of terroir is very clear too - the Malbec structure and fine delineation shines. Glad I have a few more. Will try and forget about them for a few years to let secondary and tertiary notes develop.

An impressive wine. Its youth is not particularly on display but the future holds promise for even better. When first opened, the wine was youthfully exuberant but three hours in the decanter brought it to a different place. On the nose, earthy, with a bit of a root cellar mustiness and, oddly, a hint of reduction and a feral smell (and taste) to it. In the mouth wild, dark, black currant. A rustic wine that is earthy and entirely unpolished - unabashed flavor. My tasting partner suggested, and I agree, that this would be a superb wine with a steak charred and rare. Can’t wait to try that!

Decanted for 2 hours and served at cellar temperature. Paired with grilled ribeye, baked potato and garden salad. It got better and better with air. Mint, licorice, graphite dominate on the nose. The oak is by no means overpowering. It sits in the background, barely noticeable. Likewise with tannins. They are present, but integrated, perceived on the sides of the tongue. The finish is spectacular. Very approachable now. Of course, it will get more complex with age, but this is a delight!

First time tasting this wine (in any vintage) as was pretty impressed, especially as it is quite young. It is rich, fully ripe and there is still noticeable oak, but it comes together in an elegant fashion together, and doesn't feel overwruaght. It got better over the course of the evening. Went well with the pork ribs I made on the Egg. Not sure I would get it again at nearly $80 but definitely a high-quality and enjoyable wine. Not sure it's all that memorable though, at least at this stage of development.
