Two and a half hour decant. Very deep dark slightly hazy magenta color. Boysenberry, plum, blackberry, violet, baker’s chocolate, salted caramel, and subtle fennel. Very velvety, dry palate, with nice, silty acidity. Firm, full tannins on the longish finish.
Very nicely integrated. Way too easy drinking. Could use perhaps a touch more complexity, but it’s great nonetheless.

Enjoyable, strong but restrained fruit, but ultimately not worth the price and def some excessive reviews here. Big and smooth but a bit two dimensional .

Four hour decant. Nearly opaque ruby color. Black cherry, plum, dark raspberry, violet, angel food cake, and cinnamon-laced salted caramel on the beautiful, complex nose. Super smooth, dense, tongue drying palate, with fine, lingering acidity. Firm, full, medium intensity tannins on the long finish.
This has terrific overall texture and integration. The sweet notes were not all simultaneously present, adding nice complexity. Just a terrific, fruit forward Cab.

I normally love Bulgheroni’s wines — some of my favorites — but I thought the alcohol in this was almost enough to set my eyebrows on fire. Do not drink this near an open flame!

A visceral thrill, from the first pop to many glasses following a two-hour decant. A vibrant, complex nose of dark fruit, leather, tobacco -- and a heapin' helpin' of spice -- followed by a rich, brambly center and a seductive, pepper-laced finish. I think I like these Lithologies better than the house wine.

My second bottle of 16’ Lithology, first was Las Peidras. I wish I could taste them side by side, but just based on memory I would say that I like this bottle slightly more than the Piedras, but both are excellent. This easily stands up to the best wines from Napa, what a treat. So much finesse and balance — big, rich fruit with extremely fine tannins, and nice acidity. Love this wine... probably the best Napa cab I’ve ever had for under $200/bottle.

Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate (Estate near Meadowood): Brilliant wine. Was fantastic to have after an Arrow and Branch Crane vertical. This wine is an excellent representation of this vineyard. The plush, rich, silky smooth Crane vibe is here. Dark fruit, blueberry pie. Less of the spice/cedar tones than the Piedras, but a touch of graphite gives it a bit of earthiness (almost like a Cortina gravel nuance). Has 100 point potential. 98+.

Tasting at Alejandro Bulgheroni Estate (St Helena near Meadowood): This was my favorite wine of the AB tasting, which is saying something because I thought many were spectacular. Stunning purple in the glass, showing super pure and gorgeous violets, ripe black cherry, cassis, chocolate, wet stone, herbal notes and hints of tobacco. On the palate, a perfect silky mouthfeel frames opulent mostly blue fruit that cascades over the pallet in wonderful waves of flavor. True to the site, this also has excellent mineral driven notes and shows a nice sturdy backbone and fine grained tannins. The finish is long a absolutely satisfying. This is ready to compete with the top tier of Dr Crane producers.
Tasted with Michael at the AB tasting room near Meadowood. This stuff is pretty fantastic - tastes as good as the team that made it. Super smooth and very concentrated with upfront black fruits and dark chocolate. Small production and expensive but it seems to measure up.
