I have always liked the CVR and this 2017 was exceptionally good. Tannins and fruit are very well balanced and the 14.8% doesn't really show itself. I was quite impressed how this bottle has aged.

90 min decant. Nose of cassis, raspberry and leather, with flavors of cassis, sweet pipe tobacco and dark chocolate. Finish is quite long and sweet, tannins are light but chewy, and acidity is medium...perfect pairing for a steak. Drinking very well right now, particularly on day 2. Drink now - 2032.

Double decant. Black and blue fruits. Spice. Long finish. This one is a bit less oaky than previous vintages. Still I’d prefer even less for my taste. It’s a solid and reliable big wa cab for the money.

Killer juice! As soon as I opened my first bottle of this vintage (I've been drinking CVR since the 1998 vintage) to decant a few hours before dinner yesterday, and smelled the aromas as I poured it, I knew it was going to be a winner. This wine is perfectly balanced and a joy to drink right now. Served it with grilled strip steaks and it blew everyone away. At $45 (winery release price), QPR if off the charts! Bravo!

This is drinking beautifully. Dark fruits, a hint of dull spice, and pencil appear on the nose. The mouth is ripe fruit, with blueberry and plum, and just the right mix of tannins and acidity.

Deep opaque purple color! Wafting aromas of dark fruit, vanilla, spice and mineral notes. Full bodied juicy ripe fruit fills the mouth with stone fruits and red berries. Flavor notes of oak and spice. Wonderful structure with polished silky tannins and bright acidity that make for a long finish.

Aggressive 20 min decant, sweet tobacco leaf, subdued blue & black fruits with a tannic finish. Could not get over the tannic finish which held back for us really trying to like this wine. Could just need more time in cellar.

Dark purple-y red, hints of vanilla and blueberry/cassis on the nose, medium-bodied, good mouth feel, and well-integrated for a wine weighing in at nearly 15%! Easy to sip, with a touch of heat on the finish—not surprising given the high alcohol. Still quite enjoyable and yet…. And yet… I’m not unhappy that we have another couple of cases in our cellar, as there will undoubtedly be opportunities to share this with those for whom this style rocks, although our preferences have tended to drift southward wrt alcohol levels.

Really nice wine. Nose starts heady with mint, graphite and cassis. With more air becomes nuanced, baked blueberry pie and balsamic in nose as well. Palate is deep and luscious, silky fruits, more blueberry pie, melded with the dry mineral and pencil lead imparting structure. Just a lip smacking, delicious wine. Well done

Still a touch too much vanilla for me, but let's hope it sheds that as it ages. Worth a point or two if it does, since everything else is right on. Nice dark fruit, good balance and structure. One of my favorite American second wines.

Spot on. The in-laws drank us out of 3.75 liters of QC this weekend, but it was all worth it. After a 2010 Cab, and a 2009 Galitzine, I pulled out this 2017 CVR, and nobody complained. Big, blackberry & dark fruit, balanced. Mother-in-law's birthday deemed a success.

Found this bottle on a restaurant menu for $70 so we could not resist. It did not disappoint. Very solid Cabernet! What really surprised me was how beautifully it drank immediately after opening. Silky mouthfeel and elegant with enough power to hold up to hearty dishes. Great bottle of wine to be enjoyed now or over the next 10 years.

A very nice Cabernet Sauvignon blend from Columbia Valley. Showing cherries, currants, plums, earth, tobacco, vegetables, spices, oak and light vanilla.
Medium bodied with medium acidity. Spicy finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
Dry on the palate and nicely balanced with a nice, soft mouthfeel.
Still very young but already enjoyable.
Good by itself or with food.
A blend of 96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc. Aged in French oak barrels for 18 months.
90 points.

Medium purple color. Deep and saucy aromatic display of red and black currants and cherries, laced with mesquite, tobacco, rocky earth, tar and coffee tones. Full-bodied, suave but structured, juicy but shows vibrant acidity. A smooth, deep yet tangy display of currant and black cherries, with a complex mix of graphite, loamy earth and rocky tones, iron, tobacco, with these nuances of cocoa powder and vanilla. This could use a few years or give it a really good decant if drinking soon. Cabernet Sauvignon with 3% Merlot and 1% Cabernet Franc, aged 18 months in 70% new French oak. A delicious, less expensive way to experience the Quilceda Creek goodness.

Deep, dark reddish-purple in color, bordering on opaque. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, blackberries & cassis with lovely overtones of earthy/dusty with spice & herbal notes, cocoa, minerals & a slight hint of vanilla/oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of cherries, blackberries & plums with herbs, spices, minerals, cocoa, oak & vanilla. Lingering smooth & polished finish. Drinks quite well at present with decanting & extended airing but should continue to develop further with additional aging.

Great wine on the second day. I kept it in the frig for a day and in a empty bottle, filled to the top. Took it out two hours before drinking it. The wine was then smooth and powerful. If you want to pop and pour wait another 4 to 5 years.

Decanted 3 hrs super dark in color.... notes present cherry, cheesecake, buttery crust, huckleberry, blueberry, Licorice, espresso, vanilla, white pepper and mineral. Absolutely spectacular an easy wine to fall in love with that punches way out of its weight class. Drink- 2030. Has very lively acidity but is spectacularly balanced. Will buy many more!! Cannot wait to see this mature and focus on what it’s doing but wow !!! It has all of the right stuff!!

While this is a good wine and deserves some level of praise, giving it a score of 95 is over the top.
If you've ever had Quilceda Creek's flagship wines, you would know what a 95+ wine tastes like.....and this isn't it.
Is it a good value? Yes. Is it pleasant to drink. Yes
I also noticed that a couple of people that rated this wine posted many scores each, many are 95 points.
I think that the professional score that QC used to sell this wine were around 94-95. Maybe that's why others are now rating it like that. I just don't see it .

Not a bad wine, but not sure why the average rating is so high. Contra some other reviews, not the best $60 bottle I’ve had, and I was hoping for more oak, tannins. That being said, I get a hint of cherry, and this is a smooth drinkable wine on its own. Did reasonably well with flat iron steak, but as I said, expected more tannins.

Let it sit for a few days upon arrival to calm any shipping shock. Coravan’d a glass two nights ago, and killed the balance tonite; pop and pour, not decanted.
Still a bit tight, with fine grand tannins front to mid pallet. You can see there’s lots of fruit, graphite, crushed stone. Components Need some time to integrate but this has great potential. Should’ve bought a few more bottles! Will retry in 9-12 months.

Ya, like all those other good comments below! QC CVR is probably the Best wine for the money i have had. It is fantastic right out of the bottle. And gets better as it opens up. Note to self, get more than two bottles this fall. Seriously considering dropping several wine club memberships and just going w QC for all our CS.

Not a strong nose on my bottle, but a little cedar and some oak would be a complete guess. I have been sipping for the last hour, and I am surprised at how approachable this wine is upon opening. The wine swirls on the palate with dark sweet cheery, some vanilla crème, cola, and oak. The tannins are there and smooth out in a nice sweet finish. I find it difficult to say that this wine is drinkable this early, but yes, it is. I have another 10 to blaze through so I'll be back on this one 2nd night, I reserved some and I am sitting here with a glass and the sipping is elegant! All of the flavors from last night are recapitulated but only softer and more elegant and is reminiscent of Peter Michael Les Sprit or a Caymus. The tannins have softened and the finish is short and sweet like a light chocolate syrup. A great wine but not the best of QC, but darn good.

96% Cabernet Sauvignon, 3% Merlot, and 1% Cabernet Franc sourced from Champoux, Galitzine, Palengat, and Wallula Vineyards. Long decant given. Explosive aromas show notes of cedar, pencil shavings and cigar box with lush aromas smashed blackberry, cassis and plum along side with scents of herbs, forest floor, vanilla bean, violet pastilles, toast and light hints of smoke. The palate reveals a wine that is accessible even at this early stage. With air time the firm, fine tannins soften and is in complete balance with the acidity. The alcohol perception is moderate and this wine shows some great density across the mid-palate along with satin like texture. A big wine, but smooth and refined. Flavors showing a nice harmony for its youth revealing a mixture of fresh picked blackberry, wild herbs, plum, cassis, vanilla bean, tobacco, violet tea, pencil lead, earth, espresso and toasty oak. The finish sails smoothly on endlessly.

Very well received with some friends last night! Drinking well now - but could use perhaps another year in the cellar. Scoring a bit high I think for right now, but will get there in a few more years - good bones!

Drank the new 2018 vintage last night, and 2017 seems like a little brother by comparison. Great wine, but less density, texture, and oomph of the 2018.

You know that wine you open on a random night without overthinking it to go with pasta that you end up polishing off the the bottle in no time? That's this wine. Big, round, lovely bouquet, blueberries, vanilla, plums and big, big jammy fruit, terrific finish.

Great wine on the second day. I kept it in the frig for a day and in a empty bottle, filled to the top. Took it out two hours before drinking it. The wine was then smooth and powerful. If you want to pop and pour wait another 4 to 5 years.

Decanted 3 hrs super dark in color.... notes present cherry, cheesecake, buttery crust, huckleberry, blueberry,
Licorice, espresso, vanilla, white pepper and mineral.

Great WA state blend. Vibrant fruit, tamed forest floor and a little minerality make this special

First try of this wine. I agree with others that it can be drunk young. Lovely fruit. Not overly tannic. Good body. Drank with filet mignon East to drink.

Popped and poured. It is drinking very well right now. I'm not sure if it has the stuffing to age for many years, but is definitely enjoyable right now.
High alcohol....packs a punch.

Drinking quite well with a 5m decant. Open and generous without the overly generous oak I’ve gotten with other vintages when young.

Decanted one hour. Bouquet of blueberries and violets. Palate of blueberry, vanilla and cocoa. Wonderful balance of tannins through a long rounded finish. Drink now or maybe wait, either way it’s very good!

We decided to pull one right from the box after we had it delivered instead of the usual pick up at the winery this year. It probably is not quite ready, but I would give it a solid 90-91 points.

Good wine, not great. Not as bold, structured or balanced as most vintages of CVR. A bit thinner and more acidic. Worked better with food.

This seems to be a great year for Quilceda; dark fruit, stony earth, balanced tannins, big and balanced.

A return to form after a bit of a miss ‘16. Young for sure, but pleasing enough after a double decant.

I have another 10 to blaze through so I'll be back on this one
2nd night, I reserved some and I am sitting here with a glass and the sipping is elegant!
