PnP. Opens with aromas of black currant, plums, blackberry ,minerality, tar, licorice and camphor Similar flavors.. Medium-bodied. Mineral and spice accents in the long tannic finish.

Deep purple, opaque at the core. I really like To Kalon's Monastery Block matched to Thomas Rivers-Brown's winemaking. Here the bright fruits and flowers that are signatures of his wines play in harmony with the warm, savory earth tones from this site. On the nose this is still quite youthful offering primary aromas of fresh black cherries, lightly cooked blackcurrants, crème de mûre, violets, turned earth and oak spice. On the palate it is full bodied and feels clenched with a high level of grippy tannins really towering over the fruit and earth flavors. This is a wine that needs at least three, and perhaps as many as five or ten years to show well. If you're curious about this wine, I'd suggest opening a 2017 instead.
