Typical jamberry Dusi character w/ too much alcohol. Definitely past its prime tho more or less drinkable. Ridge Dusi Zins just don't last more than 10 years.

Still drinking well, its lost much of the youthful jammy-ness as you would expect but its been replaced by a fruitful mouthful of darker fruit. Good acidity and tannin balance. Ready to go but you don't need to be in a hurry.

Quite dark transparent garnet color, with just a slight tinge of brown. Concentrated berry fruit nose, spice, and oak wood. Alcohol is noticeable at 15.3. Lightens up a little with some air time. Tastes of concentrated dark, jammy cooked berry fruit with strong strawberry note but still with a good tartness level, and with an earthiness and an oak and clove-like spicy finish. Not for the faint of heart, this is a bruiser of a Zin, deep, dark, tart, rich, jammy, spicy, and high alcohol.

Volatile acidity and cooked prunes on the nose and palate. I had to serve this coolish in order to reduce the volatiles and plummy notes. Seemed to ave been made using too-ripe grapes. Dusi, whether Turley or Ridge-made, sometimes seems to yield this unfortunate flavor profile, probably due to Paso heat.

Not as interesting as Ridge's 2005 Oltranti Zinfandel tasted last week. More dusty flavors than up-front fruit. Maybe it should have been decanted. Interesting since the vines are 80 years old.

Opened late on in a 24 bottle pre Xmas meal. This was quite lean with a similar acetone and alcohol nose to the 97 Turley Hayne Zin opened the previous week. Not the same palate and taste though. It didn't have a rich or extracted palated, but there was a bit of hotness. Better than the red Bordeaux wines that were drunk previous to this, but the red berry fruit didn't quite do it for me and I don't think it was a good as any Geyserville that I've drunk.

Dark purply red, transparent at the rim. Subdued nose of Zin fruit and a bit of vanilla. Really smooth wine with Zin fruit a bit of vanilla/oak, kind of a secondary fruit note going on that I am struggling to name, with a nice loong finish. As you would expect from 100% Zin, the tannins are a bit soft. This is drinking well now and I don't think it will improve. I have one left and will drink it in the next year. In general, the 2005 Ridge ATP Zins have been a bit soft on the tannins. Definitely wines to drink fairly soon.

Pop & Pour. A good deep purple, 100% Zin. A crazy Welch's grape juice nose jumped out of the glass on first pour. Bit more restrained now, little mushroom in there, this is one strange brew. Not a thick glycerin wine, more smooth, almost light palate. Spice, different from a Shiraz, but like a asian 5 spice. Clove, cinnamon, ginger heat spice. Nice. Well balanced. Short finish mainly, but opening up with a lingering taste, all the flavors coming together. This should gain more complexity with some bottle time, based on the spice aspect and interesting nose, as well as the good tannin/fruit/oak/acid balance. 2-5 years. Yes, the nose is a Welch's grape juice shake fortified with wild mushrooms, with some of that passing in to the palate.

Dark purple in color, this leaps out of the glass with aromas of cassis liqueur, black raspberry syrup, and toasty oak. Soft and nearly sweet on its full bodied palate, this offers tons of alcohol, not much tannin, and a bevy of fruit flavors, most notably, black plum. Simple, and short on the finish, this is a crowd-pleasing sort of Zin.

Aromas of blueberries, licorice, spice and camphor assault the nose, following onto a lush palate with rich notes of blackberries, bruised dark cherry, strawberry puree/jam, with licorice and spice on the finish. Clearly improving, this wine is integrating nicely now, it is only the slight tart finish that lets this wine down. Still good. Decanted, but fine straight from the bottle.

This is by far the best Zin from the ATP in 08. Loved it. Want more but it is sold out. Very big Parker Zin. If you are in the mood by a big Zin this is the one.

I love this wine. It is the right amount of "big" without being overwhelming. Jammy with a hint of spice, no alcoholic aftertaste. Will only get better, but you can drink it now. One of the best old vine Zinfandels you will find in this price range, at least according to my taste. Would compare favorably with a Linne Calodo Cherry Red or Peachy Canyon.

Tasted alongside the 03 Del Carlo (Dry Creek). Next to that this is all sugar - one-dimensional. I barely finished the pour. Don't bother. NB: The bottle had been open a while, so it had clearly opened up as much as it was going to.

Lighter body than typical for Dusi; bright and jammy at the same time. With a couple of years in the bottle this should be really spectacular. "Wait for it..."

Color is the expected deep purple. On the nose there is vibrant raspberry on the forefront with dusty oak with some vegetable, eucalyptus, red licorice, and a bit of black pepper. On the palate, this becomes jammy and even more fruity, with puckering acids on the middle and finish. There is a sligh hint of spice on the finish --perhaps ginger or clove. Quite hot, although not entirely unbalanced against the high alcohol. Very interesting and certainly complex, but the fruit and heat are a bit too much. Try again in a year or two. 89-91.

Takes hours to open up, this needs 1-2 years of bottle age to integrate. Very tight on initial opening. Finally reveals licorice and blackberry on the nose, and luscious red fruits in the mouth. Good mouthfeel, very sensual. Tried alongside the 1999 which is drinking much better now simply because of its age.

Took some time to open, initially with beautiful perfume on the nose, but then thick licorice after an hour. The palate showed a little acid and thinness at first, but gained weight. Not as impressive as at the winery, but still a very nice Ridge Zin.

Great Zinfandel with definitive notes of dry fruit and tobacco. Needed time to open (about 1 hr) and some sediment on final pour.
