First bottle to check on development. One hour decant through a screened and aerating funnel. Already some sediment. Classic young Nebbiolo nose during decant of cherries, cedar and smoked meats. Still pretty fresh. Wine was clear, bright ruby bowl to rim with a small halo. No bricking whatsoever. After resting: nose had not changed. In the mouth: tannins still there, but the wine was drinkable albeit in a juvenile stage. Great balance and wonderful acidity to set off the deep fruit. Palate of tobacco, red fruit and some minerality. Needs time but will definitely improve with age.
Bright garnet red with violet reflection, some sediments. Nebbiolo aromas of cherry, spice, smoke and some meat. Juicy and fresh, powerful and firm. Delicate tannins, beautiful acidity, old school and classic. Additional patience is needed to soften. Lively even three days after uncorked.

Translucent ruby, the color contrasted with the power is a thing of beauty. This is a wine that demands food at this age, and it’s still just emerging, but it will be exceptional in a handful of years. This is one of my favorite base Barolos, and an incredible value in the $45 range.
Beautiful color, ruby but almost transparent. Nose still with primary notes like cherry, strawberry, rose petals and some leather and tobacco. In the mouth very, very tannic. Drank over four days after decanting to see the evolutivon and the tannins got softer over the days but never lost the grip. Beautiful acidity, fruit and lenght. A wine that needs at least 5 more years to hit it's best. But it will be a great wine.

Bright cherries with an underpinning of cedar. Tannins are very present and suggest a +10 year drinking window. A bit too much heat on the finish in my view. I would suggest drinking on the younger side -- as the fruit fades the alcohol will become more pronounced.

Tried with Coravin, after a bottle of Angelo Germano Barolo 2015. Massolino with very subdued smell, color quite light, elegant and not bold, but grippy tannins. Needs time, will try again in a year or so.

Really enjoyable drink! Had to check the label but this was indeed Barolo. Accessible, fruit forward - you can taste the structure (and the warmth and mouthfeel of the 14.5abv) but it’s super gentle and generous and nice to drink. Some structure here for sure - and I suspect I’m missing out on some of the complexity because I really wasn’t expecting to enjoy it this much. There are a couple of glasses left in the bottle - interesting to see what tomorrow brings.

Nice showing with violet and cherry. Perhaps modest depth for a 2016 but not bad at the Classico level. Would not re-buy just as I think there are better choices even at the Classico level for its price point, but would be happy with it as a daily drinker nebbiolo fix

92 now and potential of 95 in 5+ years. Very tannic as pop n'pour. I poured out the entire bottle in 3 large wine glasses 8 hours before dinner with guests. I continued to pour from glass to glass, swirled multiple times, and used a frother to further oxygenate. At dinner the wine was very drinkable. Wine Spectator 40th Anniversary; 10/21/2021-10/23/2021 (Marriott Marquis): Very pretty and precise. The entry level Barolo I think for this producer whom we haven't spent nearly enough time with (but are hoping to visit in a month when we head to Piedmont). This is rose hips and tar and red fruits and very elegantly structured. Young and needs time, but this seems like a great buy.

Initial impressions: Gorgeous nose, very open and bright with a combination of sour wild berries, soil, tarry minerality, incipient pipe tobacco, a hint of sweet oak spice, all wrapped in gorgeously fresh balsamic aromas. Very taut on opening, lean, salty, and minerality with great length but lacking in generosity, which was not the case with a prior bottle. Nothing is out of place here, it’s very elegant, focused, and long, but the fruit is hiding at the moment. 87-88 based mostly on the nose. Generally hard and austere with tannins that are small scaled but very firm.

Opened in the bottle for a few hours. Young but easily the most approachable 16 Barolo I’ve had. The 2016 Fratelli Alessandria from the night before now seems tannic and harsh. That said this still needs time to mellow. Black/blue fruit, milk chocolate, minerals, dried earth and tar. Give it 2-3 years but not a waste to open in the next few months.

Sampled three Baroli 2016 from Massolino, Trediberri and Fratelli Alessandria side by side. Bigger fruit aromas with more depth. Very fine but sandy tannin is coupled with plenty of fruit and overall it shows a very good balance. Not much of notes so i'll have to sample again...

An entry level barolo, combining the excellence of the vintage with the skills of Massolino. Classic bouquet of red fruit, rose pedals and some herbs. The tannins are quite present and need at least another 2-5 years to mellow down. On day 2 the wine slowly opened up and the tannins lost a little of their ferocious grip.

Medium-deep bright reddish garnet in color. Full, forward & attractive nose of ripe fruit aromas of cherries, strawberries & mulberries with overtones of floral notes of roses & earthy/dusty notes, spices, dried herbs, some leather, minerals & a slight hint of oak in the background. Medium-full bodied with a good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe fruit flavors of sour cherries, strawberries & pomegranate with herbs, spices & minerals. Lingering finish. Although it is presently accessible with decanting & extended airing, it will definitely benefit & develop further with additional aging.
Powerful strong tannins. Notes of usual barolo, red fruit, sour cherry, tobacco and all that. But in aftertaste i sometimes taste nuttyness, same feeling as from sherry matured single malt whisky. After 3-4 hours the rose and perfume intensifies in the scent and lifts my rating by two points. Bought 6 of them and will not taste the 5 remaining again for at least 2 years.
Middels intens av røde bær og blomster. Flott, ren frukt, ungdommelig og tilgjengelig, overraskende drikkevennlig. Relativt snill, med middels tanningrep.

Bright and exuberant wine ruby in color. It is really expressive with dark cherry, spice and earth. It's broad and deep with quite a bit of structure and fine somewhat chalky tannins . A slight tar note shows up on a long finish. I followed this for an hour and not surprisingly the tannins become more pronounced with time. This shows tremendous promise and the score reflects where I think it will be in 3-4 years. I pumped the bottle after the first glass to follow it over a few days. I won't open another one until 2023 at the earliest. + It held up and improved over 2 days and not surprised. Won't open another for at least 3 years.

Rather masculine. Smoke and tar, cherries. Tannins are coarse. Needs time but the body and length are both really quite good.
