Forward and spicy plums and mulberries, vanilla oak, lavender and sweet licorice on the nose and palate. Powerful entry with energetic elements, full-bodied mid-palate with some bite at the edges. Finish is clean but somewhat chalky. This needs a few more years for the tannins to fully integrated into the structure.

Dense, mouth filling fruits and tannin, moderately long finish. Opened a couple of hours but would have opened even earlier as it developed while we were drinking it. Has residual aging potential.

A bit disappointing bottle. Not a lot of bouquet and not a lot on the palette either. Very decent wine and very smooth with very little negative taste. Very low acidity and very low tannins. Perhaps the bottle is past its prime?

I had hoped that this would have resolved. But no, still harsh and tannic on day 1 with a lengthy slow ox and rest in the glass, smoothed out a bit on day 2 but still lacking. Drink after it’s 10th birthday.

What a deep purple wine with aromas of blackberry, cream, raspberry, and oak. Flavours of blackberry, cassis, potpourri, black pepper, cocoa, and vanilla. Dry medium finish with high acidity and medium tannins. This can age for a good while.

Full bodied, dark fruits, low tannins, easy drinking. Had it breathing for 1 hr, smooth with no harshness. Family would not believe that Petite Sirah and Sirah are not related, even though they taste quite different!

Black fruit and some pepper on the nose. Nice juicy acid and a dry, long finish with plenty of tannin--very food-friendly! Finish goes a little bitter in a way I didn't love.

My evening coravin wine of the week. I opened the bottle last night while cooking and finished it. Dark red fruit on the nose. The palate was dark red berries, plums, sweet pipe tobacco and a hint of mint. The finish was moderate to long.

This wine has a dark garnet color, nearly black, with ruby tinges around the edges. The nose is of blueberries and blackberries with hints of amaretto and cotton candy. The first tastes are of blue and black fruit followed by a wonderful oak with balanced tannins and alcohol. It has a warm oak finish accented with remnants of ripe fruit.
Decanted for a half hour to get to room temperature. Paired wonderfully with filet mignon and lobster accompanied by mushroom risotto, steamed asparagus and warm semolina bread and butter.
This wine has been a longtime favorite of mine and this vintage didn't disappoint. For the price, this is an amazing wine. It is truly happiness in a bottle.

Pnp'd and the tannins delivered a body blow. Set it aside until the next day and boy was that the right decision. Rich black fruit reflected the rich black color. A bit of fig in there, then nice tobacco and earthiness. Still a little tight, but that cut right through the fattiness of the brisket we ate with it.

fruit forward with lots of herbal and smoky oak. Lingering aftertaste that is a bit harsh. Still unbalanced but with more bottle time will probably come together very nicely. I definitely opened this too soon.

dark and totally opaque. very fragrant and young, nose is dark fruit, green and leafy, tobacco. on the palate, it's full bodied, thick and layered, fruity but also savoury, mild to no acidity and notably tannic. drink if you like it young, or cellar for another several years.

Garnet color. Dark fruit up front, plum, black cherry. Minerality, tobacco, earth giving way to nice herbal notes, thyme, lavender, black licorice. Medium tannins, nice body and structure for being consumed young.
Drank well with steak au poivre.
Decanted for 90 minutes and still improved during dinner, next time will decant for 2+ hours.
At $35 will buy the 2017 again to consume after 2025 when it's starting to show off.

In Vino Veritas (in wine there is truth; people speak the truth when they are drunk), bottle #103 of my cellar sacrifices. A young 2017 Petite Sirah from Stags’ Leap, that is much younger than I usually drink, but was so highly rated by the wine critics, I had to try it for myself so I could stock up now if I wanted. Aside from being my favorite varietal, this one is well worth the investment as it came down from MSRP 45, to 35 retail, to 27.99 at my local wine store. Needless to say, I will wait a few years before trying more. Stock up now if you can find it! 😀🍷🍷👍👍 #wine #winelover #winelovers #redblend #redblendwine #stagsleap #petitesirah #petitesyrah #stagsleapwinery
Candied, very versatile. Strawberries, red cherries and tea leaves. Ample tannin but smooth. Might be too sweet for those having a "traditional palate".

Part of the WFSNY tasting with Stags' Leap. We coravined our pour (3 bottles on a Wed night would be ambitious) and decanted for about an hour and a half before going into the glass. Definitely my favorite of the group. I tend to skew towards aged wines and while this is approachable early, it certainly seems to have the backbone to be able to age well. Acidity is very present (which was true across Christophe's wines). That creates a bit more lift to the grape. More dark and brooding flavors. Nice wine and great for the price point.

Needed an hour decant to open up and show its elegance and polish. Medium + acids and tannins. I believe this wine will evolve in flavors with more time in the cellar. Good but not great.
