Left over from the night before. This is already tired with fruits mostly gone on the bouquet. Lively on the palate with earth, leather and long long finish.

Confuron gets a bit overlooked but their RSV delivers here strongly. For me, it had the quintessential Vosne nose and a really silky palate with the weight but without being too heavy or extracted which usually points me to Vosne GC. It is drinking well but still at the very early stages of maturity. The best would be to hold it for 3-5 years and come back to it. But if you have multiple bottles it definitely warrants a check-in.

Very generous pull from a friend. Didn’t think this was Vosne at all because the oak had integrated and it didn’t have any spice on the nose. Had some smoky bacon notes, but remained very elegant so I thought that it was a lighter Gevrey grand cru like Griotte from a good maker. Made in a sturdy old-school style with tobacco and tea-like tannins that took time to get more expansive with air. Was absolutely singing after an hour or so, incredibly floral nose and the finish really fleshed out.

B’s official 50th (The Medlar, London): Nicely rich. Mellow red fruit. Slightly gamey. Mid red fruit. Very harmonious. A little meatier and a touch more autumnal cf the Rouget, but sweetens and puts on extra weight with air. Very complete. *****

Cherry fruit, candy, vosne spice and flowers. Palate had good depth and precision where the harmonious sweet fruit glide through the palate seamlessly. An excellent RSV and possibly the best I have tried from Confuron. Long life ahead. 94-95

Decanted for about 2.2 hours before we got into it.. Initially it was high in acid, with prominent oak. As we followed through the meal, air really helped it along. Lovely red fruit, spices, and earth, with a truffle/mushroom funkiness. The acidity/structure really helped as well once we bit into fatty crispy duck skin. Great pairing.

this was very nice but not a good QPR at $300 plus, very nice red fruit, very high toned (noticed drwine2001 note, my take was like his but I still liked it a lot)... high toned red fruit, med bodied, great acidity and some spices mixing in and out of the red fruit... great but just not worth the price paid

Light red with early browning at the rim. Spicy nose with some cooler green elements and some whiskey barrel. Tasty red fruit, but unconvincingly light and soft. Very disappointing.

This was even lighter than the DRC next to it. Lovely aromatics with lots of spice but I felt it was a bit harmless on the palate for a Vosne Grand Cru in a top vintage.

Christmas WIMPS - Burgundy I (La Trompette, Chiswick): Aromatic, pure, noble red fruit (strawberries), florals, medium bodied, soft, composed, elegant but with real depth and dimension, sweet, pure red fruit yet with a savoury edge, long finish. Lovely *****.

Gorgeous wine. Magic nose of opulent red berries and touches of earth and forest floor. Beautiful palate too: lovely complex perfectly ripe red fruits, beautifully integrated subtle oak and well balanced acid. Loved it now but don't rush to drink, as has enough sappiness on the finish to add complexity and improve for several years.

Bordeaux matters, along with Burgundy and Champagne and Port and ... (Ripple Restaurant in Washington D.C.): Oh, you know I hate to talk about perfection and scores. But I noted near 100 here just because I flat out loved this wine. Still too young to really appreciate perhaps for some palates - more educated palates. In any case, what perfume, what red flowers and red and darker fruits? This was a fireworks display but never obvious or thick or super duper. It had a subtlety and nuance about it that was delicious and intellectual at the same time. The finish was marked by fresh floral lift and was long. Oh, yes, it also paired very well with my steak.

Belated holiday dinner - Mostly Burg and Bordeaux (Ripple Restaurant in DC): Explosive hedonistic nose of sweetest raspberries and cherries, a hint of sous bois and Vosne spice, sap, flowers and delicate perfume. Incredible GC palate, quite coiled, dense and sappy yet the overall impression is airy, fresh, precise and energetic. Thirst quenching in most intense, complex and hedonistic way. Wow!

Drank over 3 hours. Initially quite a bit of funk and iron on the nose, but this faded to the background after an hour behind more pronounced red fruit, spice, menthol and dark fruit. Very detailed and precise. Nice tension. Already complex, but this will take on more with time. Lots of iron and red fruit. Long finish emphasizing the spice.

Birthday lunch for KG, Alex and William (Hua Ting, Orchard Hotel): A truly beautiful wine – this was easily the best of the afternoon for me. It had an enchanting nose, with bassy, umami notes of sous bois and wet earth and meat; a mid-range of fresh black cherry aromas; then very floral, perfumed high-tones, with rose petals and shades of Vosne spice, all tinged with a tinge of green at the edges; green not in a bad way – more like freshly cut flowers – man, this was a crazy, aromatic nose, perched right on the egde of secondary development, yet still fresh with the last bloom of youth. Really beautiful. Thankfully, unlike the 2003 Potel Clos St Denis that preceded it, the palate here more than lived up to the promise of the nose. It was quite amazing - fresh, lively, with the darker fruit expression of the 2002 vintage showing in sour plums and black cherries, and then an underlying core of mineral and earth. Great flavours, but what was really got me was how the wine just about that rang out with a superb purity, showing perfect poise, amazing balance and effortless finesse – like a ballerina in full flow. This was very close to what an ideal RSV should taste like. It was such a complete wine too, with a nice sense of depth and fullness on the midpalate all the way into a perfectly delineated finish, where fine tannins still gave a little chew as the wine filled the backpalate with a gentle drift of warm spice and long, beautiful tail that had a little kiss of toasted vanilla that hinted at perhaps too much oak in the wine's youth. All that is forgotten though - this is one of those rare 2002s that just crying out to be drank now. However, such is the quality on the fruit and structure here that I think it will be even better in a short 2-3 years down the road. Bravo.

Pretty dark in color, nose of ripe dark red fruit, still a hint of residual oak, roasted chestnut and spices. Full bodied with good attack and lots of ripe fruit, however the palate does not seems to be complex enough and the initial attack is much better than the follow through, which seems to be a bit short and hollow even after 4 hours of air.

Christopher Prain's Mature Burgundy Dinner @ Ten Bells (Upstairs @ The Ten Bells): Asian spice. Exotica (in a good way). Star anise. Red and dark fruits. Explodes in the mouth. Young, but in the way that platon was talking about in The Feast. Barely legal but a boatload of unrestrained hedonism. Would actually drink now (and i know thom blach will be coming after me for this). A great expression of the terroir and the vintage. 96.

<Opened at home, aired in the bottle for one hour, drunk over lunch at home with Ad, 12 Feb 2013 > Light ruby color, delicate nose of cherry, subtle spice and smoke. Fresh and vibrant on the palate, quite mature and ready now. Elegant and balanced wine. Long lively vibrant persistent finish. Probably at its peak. Will easily hold another 5 years but i doubt it will get better. 92 points.

Red Burgundy at The Wine Club (with a brown-bagged cherry): Nose of young, crunchy red fruits, mostly cherries, maybe a little reduction. Aromas of oak as well. Great acid, very juicy and vibrant. Better freshness than the 2001, but with less massive concentration, and ultimately a much simpler wine. Showing some oak, but it should integrate. $290
