  • Agree with the previous review. Seems past it. Bought from reliable retailer near mariner in Boston MA, so storage not to blame. Too many noticeable bitter, herbal notes - perhaps because of faded fruit. Colour not as previously described indicating that it may have fallen off the age cliff. Not off, just not as good as expected. Will not buy this vintage again. 2010 released, so will try that instead.

  • Over the hill? Or bad bottle? not sure, but very acidic and slightly sour notes. Last bottle so won't be able to compare later.

  • Fantastic. Decanted an hour and when I was pouring into the decanter I thought it was thick, purple oil. This is a distinct, big wine. Not jammy and not over-the-top fruit, just big, and luscious. Aromas of dark, black cherries or berries, oak, forest floor, leather. This is drinking fantastically now, well integrated tannins, a smooth, silky, elegant wine.

  • Decanted 30 min. Opaque brackish blue purple, dark blackberry jam and earth on the nose. Smell brings me back 30 years to hot summer evenings in Iowa, picking blackberries down by the river in oppressive summer heat. Smelling that sticky sweet dark berry surrounded by the smell of the river behind me and the smell of earth from the farmers fields just turned. Sounds surreal, but this is where just the smell of this wine took me. I can remember that back then I would fill my mouth with those blackberries about as quickly as I would fill my bucket. Makes it sound like a thick over the top Aussie, but this is not overly contrived Barossa... It evolves with touches of Juniper, basil, espresso, vanilla. It's crazy. This is the reason I drink wine. Huge on the palate, rich toasted oak, coffee, and berry notes on the end. Long, rich finish. I haven't even finished my first glass. How things have changed in 30 years, because I'd be over those blackberries by now (or have emptied that bush), but I want this bottle of WOMS to last tonight, tomorrow... if only I had more than one left in the cellar.
