  • Davyd's Bday celebration at ESBK. Tasted blind. Drank in Gabriel Standart.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium+ intensity, with aromas of red licorice, spices, white pepper, red berries, garrigue. Developing.
On the palate, dry, medium acidity, high alcohol (15%), soft medium+ tannins, full body. Pronounced flavour intensity, with flavours of soft red berries, sweet strawberries, plush red plums, red licorice, white pepper, sweet spices, some garrigue. Long finish.
Very good quality CdP. Impressive. Elegantly red fruited and no jamminess. Not the best acidity but still lots of freshness. Old vine mainly Grenache fruit.

  • Chateauneuf du pape tasting (at my home): Appearance:
The 2006 Domaine de Marcoux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a deep ruby color with hints of garnet.

    Nose:
The nose is complex and inviting, with aromas of blackberries, raspberries, cherries, plums, violets, spices, and garrigue.

    Palate:
The palate is full-bodied and rich, with flavors of ripe fruit, spices, and minerality. The tannins are well-integrated and the acidity is bright and refreshing. The finish is long and lingering.

  • Spectacular bottle. Ruby core. Intoxicating aromas of spice and fruit. Creamy intensity and concentration with adequate acidity, bark and brown spice, a twist of orange peel, and generous ripe tannins. Complete, great length.

  • Hasn’t changed since 2013, when I wrote this: Dark mahagony red. Spicy, with sandalwood, caramel, floral notes. Lively red raspberries on the palate, long mineral finish lifted by just the right degree of acidity and gentle tannins. Light, yet somehow rich. An unqualified success for 2006, which was only so-so for CDP overall.

  • Beautiful CDP. Elegant grenache fruit profile. Red plum, berry liquor, red licorice, hyssop. Full bodied but feels light on the palate. Great focus and freshness. Excellent finish. Well done!

  • A heady nose with blackberry and raspberry liquor, licorice, asphalt, lavender and thyme. It's dense, fleshy, and structured, but has good balance and is seemingly in proportion, albeit a gigantic proportion. It has focus and clarity, just with everything turned up to 11. There is impressive purity of fruit and decent acid for grenache, and it is very impressive in its scale. There is sap and tons of depth, but it is right in front of you, and while there is a lot going on volume wise, it lacks intrigue and nuance. I went bonkers over this wine 12 years ago (and bought this bottle at the domaine at the time), and while I think it is still achieving exactly what it did at that time, it is too much for me at this point in my life. Personally it's too extracted, in spite of its relative balance. If you like full throttle wines, this will hit all the marks and then some. It does what it does extremely well it the style, but for me at this time, this is too much. NR due to stylistic preference.

  • Dull ruby core, lighter edge. Heady aromas of red and blue fruit, menthol, and spice. Full bodied, ripe, creamy entry just teeming with fruit, and bringing to mind other examples of exuberant, modern old vine Grenache, but then there is a transition to licorice and tree bark leading to a finish that is chewy and more savory with a definite trace of pruniness and heat. I have mixed feelings about this; one can hardly fault the concentration and depth of fruit, but on the other hand, it is overripe and too much of a good thing in many ways. How's that for definitive equivocation?

  • Very dark red color, 2 mm clear edge. PNP, split bottle over 4 hours. This was great, classic and old school styled CdP that kept getting better in the glass - and that says something. Perfumed nose, cassis, damp earth, sandalwood, leather, pencil, and an exciting high pitched fresh cut garrigue note with floral overtones. The palate resonates too, full bodied, ultra silky texture, graceful, mineral, cassis, kirsch, very earthy, garrigue, well integrated medium grained tannins, and yes it lingers on and on. The garrigue here is particularly notable for the purity, freshness and how it strikes the upper register - just fantastic. This is in a perfect spot. Unfortunately this was a one off. 95+pts.

  • This is Châteauneuf-du-Pape the way it was meant to be, although the alcohol at 15% is what has turned me away recently. Old school with garrique, roses, herbs, and cherries. Some drying tannins on the end. I love this the way I love Barolo despite its higher alcohol.

  • Goodness, this was better than I anticipated. A stacked wine, though contained and more restrained than other vintages. Deep, dark cherry fruit that is startling in its freshness and depth of flavor; complexity added by dried meat, garrigue and dusty leather notes. Really fantastic bottle right in a sweet spot, certainly with many years ahead.

  • Outstanding CdPs have a young, wild stage, and with a bit of aging, they begin to show harmony and elegance. Pretty much all Grenache, this wine brings beautiful notes of tart cherry, dried provencal herbs, with a meaty edge. The whole experience was more like a Burgundy than a CdP. Finish that goes on and on. Rocked with the lamb bbq we had.

  • Very good bottle condition. Tasted a 2 decant intervals - 2 and 4 hours -
Fantastic from the first, light nose but quickly fills up after 1 hour. Bright fruits, medium acid. Currants, some barnyard. Wish I had a case

  • {Bought on release, professional storage, perfect fill and cork} PopNPour, which was not smart as this needed a decant. Rich, ripe but not the black cherry kirsch and liquorishness and quite the depth and length seen in the last bottle (see my prior note, late 2016). Delicious. I think this has 95 point potential (my last rating) but don't short change the wine, decant it!

Completely clean, no off or odd odors/tastes.

  • Unlike the Capo, this Marcoux VV got less interesting in the glass. Very plummy fruit in the beginning. Loraine found a great deal of funky barnyard character which I did not, although some soil tones eventually emerged. A restrained style of Chateauneuf.

  • Big and tasty while retaining some grace and elegance. Lots of black currant and black raspberry. Overall a very nice wine with a lot of dimensions that gives your mouth something to reckon with.

  • The perfect example of freshness, purity of fruit, elegance and complexity. Popped and poured, the sweet, red, spicy berries tasted and felt great, making you want to go back for another sip.

  • A beautiful wine in a great style here. Elegant, silky, refined textures, a purity of fruit that makes you think you're eating the sweet, fresh cherries and black raspberries right off the vine. The finish feels great as it combines freshness with silk. Still young, at 10, this is showing well now, and it could get even better over the next 3-5 years.

  • [bought on release, temp controlled storage, brought to monthly tasting group] - Pure, beautiful, red>black fruited nose with excellent attack, full ripe black>red jam liquorish midpalate and extremely long finish. Intriguing nose. Color of a young wine. Initially quite attractive and then increasingly so over the next 2.5 hours! No hint of alcohol and though ripe, not over-ripe. Excellent balance. Very much NOT an overblown monstrous high-alcohol wine - instead, nearly Burgundian Beautiful. Delicious. 5 of 8 1st place votes including me, over 81, 89, 90 Beaucastel.

  • Lighter style CDP drinking very nice and this bottle had a few hours decant. Nice berry fruit.

  • Needs several hours of decanting to be fully realized. We were in the bottom half of the last glass when it all came together. Floral, raspberry, earth and mineral all perfectly balanced. The wine is complex rather than big and the finish is soft but dances on your tongue forever. Such a good finish that you almost don't want to spoil it by taking another sip.

  • Wow. That's really all there is to say. This was fantastic. Deep, rich, well balanced. Would have paired nicely with the roast beef if it lasted that long. (5+14+19+9)

  • Smoky, earthy, fruity (red and black fruits), very complex nose. In the mouth very good balance between tannins, fruit and freshness. Quite earthy and fresh for a wine that is high in Grenache. My favorite wine of the night. Really loved it. I had a very cordial visit a year ago at the Domaine by Shopie Armenier who took a lot of time to show me the winery.

  • Dark ruby color. Powerful nose of pure, ripe grenache fruit, fresh dough, barnyard, leather, shifting through these nuances with each sniff. Amazing balance of the huge, focused red and dark fruit, subtle yet ample acidity, and very pleasant tannic backbone. Finish goes on and on.

Outstanding example of CdP V.V. Not an off note to be found. It is really pricey, but it as also really quite outstanding.

  • 2010's Top Ten (Wine Route Tel Aviv): Bright ruby color. Powerful and complex nose with many layers of aromas that makes it hard to crack; most prominent: ripe fruits, smoke and vanilla. Mouthful and full bodied, almost chewy. A lot of fruit and sweetness in the palate. Not too much acidity (it’s a Grenache based CDF), rough tannins. Excellent harmony and balance. Long finish. It needs a few years to soften. Excellent (125$).

  • Uncorked DK tastes Châteauneuf 2006 and Henri Bonneau (Premisse): The lightest colored of the 2006s. Very elegant, delicious and complex nose with notes of licorice, pine needle, some rubber and delicate sweet berries. Very elegant style with nice aftertaste - the "burgundy" of the night and my favorite. Only concern is that it seems too developed at this stage where a wine like Vieille Julienne Reserve seems to have more potential.
