Similar to previous note - really no better in day 2 than day 1. Initial harshness, followed by very little flavor. There are a lot of cabs at this price point that are far superior.

Overall - disappointing. Inky, deep color; initial harshness implied this would be a big wine, but not much after the initial impression. A bit of alcohol heat, but no lasting flavor profile. Did a pop and pour - will check back on it tomorrow to see if it opens up significantly

Really like this bottle, all the rough edges are gone, so are the green elements that bothered me before. Deep red and black fruits, currants, leather, some oak, chocolate supported by smooth tannin and ample acidity.

Day 1: Decanted 1 hour. The wine initially showed a lot of eucalyptus/mint aspects that took a while to get used to. Very interesting flavors, with some cedar wood, and lots of cassis fruit. Medium tannins that were nicely integrated. Acidity is near-perfect for my palate. Very robust wine. Vacu-sealed for tomorrow.
Day 2: The eucalyptus is barely present now, and the fruit has come to the front. Much more rounded and enjoyable, still with a touch of cedar, but that cassis fruit is singing, with a nice earthy/black tea component. Vacu-sealed again.
Day 3: Still holding together nicely, and in my opinion, drinking the best on this third day of being open. No eucalyptus showing, barely and cedar notes, just very smooth and integrated all around. A bit of earth but a surprising amount of floral notes coming in on the palate now. I sure wish I'd grabbed another couple bottles when I got this one (current vintage is 2007). At $16, this presents a great QPR buy!

Dark purple hues with aromas of plum, dark cherry and licorice. The palate is dense and subdued with a full body and a smooth, velvety texture that glides like butter. It has hints of liqueur, oak and dark cherries just when the very subtle tannins round off on the finish. Beautiful wine, elegant, classy, refined. Great value for $19. Drink now until 2015.

Decanted for two hours. Dark purple color; nose of dark fruit, loamy earth, and sweet tobacco; more dark fruit on the palate with sweet, firm tannins; there is noticeable oak (vanilla) and a touch of heat on the medium finish, but neither is overpowering. Enjoyed this with a 1.5" thick grilled ribeye. I think this wine is now entering its drinking window and should improve slightly over the next 1-2 years.

Not decanted. Nose: rich and full, with blackberries, floral notes and cigar box. Taste: follows the nose, rather powerful, full body with a rather long finish and that typical Chilean character – which to me is hard to define. At the second day: good fruit in the taste (cherries and blackberries) with fine chocolate, spices and pepper. With 9 Euro’s a very good QPR. 87-88.

Decanted for one hour and had with grilled steak (a great pairing). The wine has a deep color and it was clearly Cabernet on the nose from right out of the bottle. After an hour in the decanter, there was a unique aroma that I can only describe as high school locker room. Over time the nose transitioned into the smell of a guy smoking a cigar across the room (not in your face, but more subtle tobacco). On the palate the wine was not fruit heavy. It was a bit vegetal, in a good complex way. Some black cherry did peak out. The tannins were very well refined, which might be attributable to a little bottle age and the decanting. All in all, a very nice wine at a great QPR. It is drinking well now, though I don't think you need to rush to open your bottles. Interested to compare to the 2006.

After @ two hours this wine really opened up. Big wine, big vanilla oak, if blind I would have guessed Cali Cab. Great acidity, nice tannic grip, dark fruit flavors, only negative is the finish was a little short. I really liked this wine drank without food, a great QPR at $16. The 2006 is in my store, I'll grab a few of those.

Dark, brooding color, but not very viscous. Odd nose, with an interesting "pine-needle" component. Smilar green and vegetal flavors interrupt the new world fruit up front. It's almost as if two very different lots were blended for effect. Only the green lot carries over onto the finish, which grips mildly around the edges and back of the palate. Performance improves with food. Decent QPR, but wouldn't rush to buy again. [14.1% a.b.v.; $16.00].

This wasn't as good as the tasting was when I bought 2 bottles ... a little vegetal on the nose and palate even after decanting for an hour. As it continued to open up, the fruit came out more, but I felt there was a little 'heat' to it at the end. I'm planning on not drinking the other bottle for at least a year or two to see if it improves.

Lovely, sumptuous wine with layers of flavor and an especially fragrant nose. Wine is still quite vigorous and has not reached its peak. But it's drinking well now. Can't ask for more at this price. This is about as good as it gets for under $20 a bottle.

Pop & Pour - perhaps a fatal mistake. Maybe a few hours of aeration should be attempted. After pop and pour, the nose has noxious fumes of rotting garbage with a touch of mint garnish. Yucko! Very vegetal. It smells like I just stopped off at the dump. Mouth - better, fruit notes with mint and then a mean bitter finish.

Very nice, a really deep flavour and richness that is amazing considering the price, a touch more elegant than the 2004, but less intense - Dark, well concentrated with notes of rich plum, black fruit, cedar, chocolate, coffee and vanilla on the nose, well structured and balanced, smooth on the finish with nice length (89 Points).

This is very nice, a pleasant surprise. The aroma is very interesting, a bit of coffee, maybe cassis, but also perceptible mint. The mouthfeel is full with nice but not overwhelming tannins. Tasted again on 2nd day and it's holding up well, the aroma is still very much there and the tannins have smoothed a bit. Very, very good value at $15.

Not smooth because it has bite, feels like you are eating this wine. 3rd bottle this time, less tannic than last yr. Tobacco, roasty mocha, sweet, cherry, chocolate. The reason this is below 90 point is because the price rose $2 at the local retailers. Recommended

The additional 8 months since our last bottle has been well worth the wait. The nose is a nice blend of cherries and black currants, tobacco, and an earthy loamy scent. Mouth feel is very smooth and silky. On the palate getting a lot of cherries and some licorice with a nice smoky oak. The tannins are very smooth and nicely woven through the finish. I wish I have some more of this, great price for a really tasty wine. Even better than the last bottle we had.

The more I look for a "value" cab, the more I come back to VSRMR. This wine was absolutely singing tonight!!! Served with braised pork ribs. Cherry, earth, loam, and a little coffee with a 15 second finish. Good balance of fruit and alcohol married with a slight tannic bite. Nice complexity.... way better than the 04'. This wine has the legs of a stripper. If you haven't tried it, time to "tuck a buck."

Popped and poured. This has smoothed out quite a bit in six months. Dark rich purple color, nose has mellowed with a floral, grassy aspect, some cherries - earthiness not so evident now. Palate brings nice intensity of fruit, with some green peppers that weren't there last time. Bitterness I noted before is now gone, oak has receded nicely into the background and tannins are much better integrated, kicking in just slightly on the medium finish. Good QPR, glad I have a few more to see how this evolves over the next couple years. Given how quickly the tannins have integrated, not sure this has as much staying power as indicated by the CT drinking window. 5+12+15+7.

This wine is really not for me. Hyper-extracted and tastes like cough syrup. I think someone replaced the bottle contents with some 'Tussin. Tons of oak, mint/eucalyptus, cough syrup/black licorice from the nose right through to the palate. I couldn't stomach more than a few sips - even after decanting and returning hours later. Remaining bottles are going back. Not rated.

Dark plum color with a ruby edge. Nose of eucalyptus, menthol and tobacco, becoming more fruity with air. After decanting an hour, the flavor was full and round, with cassis, plum, and black cherry dancing on my palate. Juicy acidity is well balanced with smooth tannins. A well integrated wine and a fabulous value. Will be buying more. Drinking very well now, if decanted (9/08).

An exceptional wine, Chiliean Cabernet at its best. Rich, dark, vibrant color, fragrant nose with hints of new-mown grass and leather, and satisfying mouthfeel. Tastes like what a good Cabernet should taste like. Tannins still dominate the fruit; expect this one to show even better given a year or two in the bottle, but great drinking now. Afforable excellence.

Decanted 30 minuted. Good QPR TASTE: Good coffee and Tobacco in the background, not overdone, just perfect with the berries. I find it bittersweet with more bitter than sweet. Aroma: I forgot, hehe, oops. RIM: modestly violet ,plus some tannins mean this sexy baby can hold for at least 2-3 years.

This wines continues to impress me and solidy S. American wine as a solid QPR that California can't deliver as much. This wine does need to settle in a decanter or bottle for an hour or so, but then develops nicely. I like the loamy and chocolate notes along with nice black berry. I am glad I found these at 11.99 and purchased ten of them. I'll wait at least another 6 months to a year to let these evolve a bit, which I feel they are going to do.

Unmistakable Chilean nose (chile and bell pepper-laced ripe red berry and chocolate). Improves with aeration (to let the greenness blow off); nose develops to ripe cherry. Vegetal with sweet red and black fruit palate. Quite full in the mouth, with chocolate tannins. Adequate acidity. Tasty and a great value.

On the nose I get some herbal almost green bell pepper aroma, some small hints of pencil shavings maybe smoke. The mouth feel is a bit tannic, not what I would call silky. On the palate get the veggie/herbal taste and some plum and raspberry with a nice oaky finish. I like this wine. day 2 the herbal taste has gone away get a classic cab feel albeit very understated, a hint of smoke, still a very nice wine for the price.

Upon opening has a strong rubbery herbal aromatic thing going on, which I have noticed on other medalla reals. However, that blows off slightly. This is a high quality cab for under $10. Lots of flavors going on, and not overdone with the oak or extraction. A best buy in the world of cabs.

Popped and poured. Rich dark purple color. Nose has a sweet floral aspect, along with some earthy smoke, vanilla and wet grass. Interesting. Palate is pretty rustic and primary, with currants, cherries and oak on the attack, a little bitterness hitting on the midpalate, and fairly substantial tannins on the medium finish. This has a lot of tannic structure and probably can benefit from some air and/or bottle age. I think what this might become is a lot better than what it is right now. 5+12+13+7.

Strong nose of vanilla and smoke (?) with a forceful taste that includes of vanilla, cocoa and licorice. This is a medium to full body wine that is very dark purple wine that has surprising structure for $12.99. Seems too need some more bottle time to smooth out though. I'll definitely buy some more as long as it is still in stock.

A good Qpr here in BC, hint of green pepper, cassis, mocha, some chewy tannins, but not in a obnoxious way.

Consistent with previous notes. Always strong nose of coffee ! Great taste even with un-matching seafood, in a sense that it does not overwhelm or be overwhelmed.

On opening was pretty closed up and not giving anything at all. A couple of hours didn't change much at all. Overall it is well made with good body and structure though .. just nothing exciting or complex coming through.

Not rated.

A very good wine, but not an outstanding one that I need to run out and buy a couple more bottles. Just a bit too acidic, flavors not as vibrant compared to what is outstanding wine (90+) to me.

Very typical Chilean cab dominated by eucalyptus, loam and rasberries. Well made, but I thought the loam and eucalytpus was a little overwhelming. Started to show better after an hour or so of being open. Good medium length finish.

Nose: Currant/smoke/ and a very interesting jalapeno pepper jack cheese component
Palate: Full bodied with banana peppers/currant/black raspberry/spiced sausage and plum skin
Overall this was a very interesting and thought provoking wine and at $15 a down right steal. I see it improving and gaining a point or two over the next few years. 90+

The Customer is the Critic (Farpointe Cellar): The nose had tobacco, earth, and a little raspberry. The palate had dark fruit, cedar, and currants, and finished with loam and vanilla.

Only had the opportunity to have one glass from the bottle, but was impressed with this wine. Nose was not particularly expressive, but palate showed ripe fruit and nice, but not overwhelming tannins. Overall impression was this is a really quality wine, especially at this price point. Would definitely buy again.

Good QPR
TASTE: Good coffee and Tobacco in the background, not overdone, just perfect with the berries.

Solid wine and great price point. Typical Chilean Cab characterisitics of leather, tobacco and minerals. I let this sit about 40 min in decanter before drinking. Should easily have 4-5 years in it.

I never know what to expect out of Chile - and this wine was no exception to that. The Cabernet was medium length with oak, green leaves, nutmeg and vanillin. I'd have to say it was interesting and a good value.

Rich, purple color; full bodied with a plush mouthfeel. The palate started out with strong sweet sage, herb and eucalyptus flavors that were too much for me. The fruit emerged on the finish and it was nice there, but the attack was too sagey for me.
