Some disagreement here, some thought atypical flavors. I thought it rounder than usual for Briords (and more so than a previous bottle), but to me the oystershell/saline thing was classic Briords. (note - this has a little bit of blueing on bottom of cork, but wasn’t oxidized). B+

Similar in color to the '05, but the nose here is a little diffuse.
Conversely, this might be a touch more structured/taut on the palate than the '05, and seemingly more persistent on the finish. I recall being so-so on the 2006 vintage on release, but this is pretty good today.

Oyster roast at Zach's. Perfect accompaniment. Medium to full bodied with tropical fruit and peach notes to go with subtle mineral and saline notes. Not the strongest vintage for Briords but showing very well out of magnum.

Post-Christmas Get Together (Mostly Loire Whites and Southern Rhone Reds) (San Francisco): Still light yellow/greenish. A light, salty, limey, mineral lick of a wine that has not changed a lot over the past few years. Remains fresh and incredibly young. It does have an extra layer compared to the really lean years for this region, but I still love its structure. Yum, mouthwatering, and zesty now, and it will go for lord knows how long.

Took a while to wake up after opening, but it doesn't disappoint. Still all seashells and lime, but now with a richer, honey and thyme component as well. Doesn't have the cut it had when it was younger, but that's a fine trade off. Glad I managed to hold onto a couple of these.

Fifteen minutes ago a bottle of 2005 showed badly flawed. I opened this as a reality check.
Yeah, that bottle of '05 was off, not me. This one's fresh and brisk. I didn't buy much of this vintage but it seems to be doing well. Lots of volume. Seems to be a richer vintage which would explain why I only bought a few bottles. Plump; not fat. Very good.
Day 3: not surprisingly, this is even better now. As long as the bottle isn't tainted this is what always seems to happen with this wine.

A very good bottle of this Muscadet, it has lost its baby fat, precise and sharp, sea, touch of citrus, great acidity, developing a bit of complexity, vibrant and refreshing, such a value, drinking well now, but I am happy to wait 1 - 2 more years on my last few bottles

Typical, freshly floral/mineral with swirling, but giving a definitely more evolved impression on the palate; at first with oxidized roundness, but later grows bones and body both with plenty of rock-influenced grapefruit, starfruit and apricot as well as jasmine. Not terribly long and slightly bitter, this is still perfect summer meal stuff at the moment.

Dinner With Alain Coudert, Francois Pinon, Marc Ollivier, and the Baudrys (Hundred Acres NYC): This appeared from another table, was only able to taste a few sips... but what I tasted was nice. Really nice. The classic acidic backbone of the Briords cuvee was still in evidence, but this was much less severe than younger/more acidic vintages. Really quite nice, brings a smile to the face. This seems as if it would be more flexible at the table than wines like the '07 and '10 Briords. Certainly makes a case for stashing some of this away.

Another stellar showing (with Hog Island X-Small Sweetwaters -- never fails). Light yellow with green highlights -- very youthful appearance. This has developed a more creamy quality, but with plenty of underlying minerality, and the hint of the ocean making its presence felt. I love Pépière Briords.

Still pale with some green. Terrific nose of stone and orange peel-the citrus really rises as it opens. Perhaps a touch fuller than most Muscadet, but dry and nicely firm with long stone/soil finish. This is drinking really well now, and my inclination would be to drink it on the earlier side.

Rounder and and less delineated than most vintages, but still with plenty of minerality and acid. My wife had sauteed tilapia (fish) with mussels so I fell on the sword and drank it with my roasted duck and it was quite a good match with that too!

Nose shows some chalk, and a touch of tarragon. Palate has citrus and a bit of saltiness; creamier than the last bottle, nearly a year-and-a-half ago. Long, mineral finish. Clean, fresh, first rate. A lovely example of Muscadet with a couple of years under its belt.

Rich, slightly sweet nose, even though it's completely dry on the palate. On day two, the nose really started reminding me of a German riesling. Medium body, the palate doesn't show much at first, but then the bright rindy fruit comes through. Well balanced, high acid white. Tough to find much under $15 that can compete with this wine.

Needed a bottle of dry white wine for a braise and reluctantly opened bottle of this...only to realize I had enough left from a bottle of the 2001 sitting on the kitchen counter from 2 days earlier for just such a purpose. Oh well, make the best of it and have a glass. Temp in low 60s, not chilled. Actually quite delicious, fruit very forward, acidity sharp like a mountain peak but not like a razor, minerals enough. Middling for a Briords, though "better" than probably 99.5% of wines.

Delicious with high quality sashimi, dances with the sea flavors, cleans the palate, takes on richness against the lightness of the fish. Not as good with a couple of the maki, but since I was having mostly sashimi, no worries. Bottle was empty too quickly! Marc Ollivier is the shiz-nit.

This is in a great place right now. I was expecting good things, but this was above and beyond the call. It has slimmed down in the past few months since I've had it, but it's still wide open, a bit creamier than usual, still very much itself and coming together nicely.

This may be the most lush and most accessible vintage of Briords that I’ve tried. It started out very fruit forward and became more exceedingly granite structured with air some few hours later. I can’t stress enough how delicious this wine is and is the proverbial steal at $13. Served with grilled, shell-on shrimp (coated in oil, breadcrumbs, lots of black pepper and lemon) and simply grilled diver scallops. Life is good.

Hadn't had this in a while, and I liked it more this time, although not as much as others seem to like it. I dug the creamy lees-i-ness, i got the typical briny minerals, and it's well balanced. very good by any standard, but not as satisfying to me as the 04, never mind the 05. not as well integrated, feels just slightly disjointed. had it with roast blackfish with caper butter - tasty pairing.

Oh, if only this had more fruit. There is so much complexity on the nose. Smoke, minerals, rainwater, and a little grapefruit. Great minerality and some nice acidity on the pallet. I really really really wish this had a little more fruit and I would go crazy over this. Nice!

Seems to be my go-to wine of the moment. Citrus, crushed stones, oyster shell, brass shavings. Great midpalate weight. Agree wholeheartedly with drwine2001's assessment of this vintage vs the 2005.

Not tasting the 2 wines side by side, I would say that by my recollection, this '06 version may be just slightly behind the '05 in its density and acidity, but the difference is small, and the granite underpinning of this wine is terrific. No hesitation about buying this in quantity-an unbelievable bargain in today's world of pricing, offering refreshment, complexity, and aging potential.

Consistent with previous note. More full-bodied on day 2; a little rounder and honeyed. Blind i would almost certainly guess Chablis. As FloridaJim would say, like stealing at the price this goes for. Year in, year out i love the understated intensity of this wine.

I've had this a few times in the last month... Nose of minerals, light citrus and a very faint oxidative element. On the palate, more of the same, with a stoney finish. A nice, typical Muscadet made in an earth-driven style. FWIW, I think I liked the 2005 better.

Loire (Wine Exchange (Orange, CA)): At this tasting, this seemed lower-toned and earthier, without the fruit or sea shell classicism shown by my own bottle. That said, again this performed in the mouth with admirable crispness and excellent length.

Pale white/yellow color. Nose of lemon zest and yeast. Really high acidity on the palate and I now know what the sales clerk meant when he said Pepiere is often less round and finessed than the Luneau Papin wines. Some more lemon zest and salty brine on the palate. Finishes well, but very acidic. Excellent with some Fleur des Alpes cheese (essentially Reblochon aged an extra 5 days). I can see how this would also be a great match to Oysters on the half shell, but I'm unsure about how good this is when consumed on its own.

Served with spring rolls & panko fried shrimp. At least as good as any vintage i've had. Minerals, sea air & lemon wapped in a somewhat fat and creamy, yet nicely acidic, package. I like the texture and length. Good stuff! Looking forward to this summer's supply.

The most open, kick-down young Briords i've yet tasted. Totally open for business, with intense briny minerality, green apple, citric acids. With time the fruit component moves to the background and is replaced by beeswax. This is the wine to drink while cellaring the '05. Totally enamored, i will be picking up a half case to pop & pour.

This 2006 is drinking really well right now. Maybe a little more open and fruity than other vintages but still has that acidity and minerality to back it up. My discrete CT scale: 95-extraordinary; 90-very good; 85-good; 80-fair; 75-poor

This had a beautiful bouquet of citrus, salt air and handsome metamorphic minerals. Greenblanket isn’t much of a muscadet expert but this wine is bigger and more open than he had been led to expect. The lime tinged citrus fruit was joined by some flatter, softer melon flavors and sensations on the mid-palate that did not affect the refreshing acidity and minerality of this excellent wine.

Bright and crisp with a riper and more aromatic punch than I expect in a muscadet. Refreshing and juicy with a mineral finish. Delicious and worth stocking up on, esp at the price.

Open on the nose - dusty, minerally and lightly herbal. Light citrus fruit. Zesty. Really nice Muscadet but not as impressive as the 2005 Granite de Clisson bottling from Pepiere, tasted side by side (see TN)

Fruitier than I'm used to from Briords. Surprisingly open. Citrus and even some melon notes. Bone dry, minerals enough. So refreshing, overall puts me in the mind of a grown-up bottle of "Squirt." Good match with simple sauteed sea scallops, and I suspect with many other things.

This had lots of delicious rocky minerality and bracing acidity which were balanced very nicely with pear/apple/lemon fruit. Very precise and clean in flavor and wonderfully nuanced. I guess I'm a Muscadet fan because I could drink this by itself all night. Excellent

Wow, what's the story here? I don't remember young Briords being this expressive. Usually I have to decant them for a couple of hours to get anything, but this was great from the get go. While it came across a bit fuller than usual, the profile is unmistakable, with the usual sea-shell and salt air over rocks, over more rocks.

Very nice tonight. Starts with mostly minerally, brothy, salty smells. With air some honey crisp apple fruit. Expressive. Excellent acidity, not too sharp.

Effervescent upon decanting. Double-splashed and returned to the bottle for 4 hours in the fridge before serving. Lacks the pure-lime intensity, dimensions, and distinction of the 05 Classique from this producer, but still a nice value white. Viva Loire.

Served with grilled, shell-on shrimp (coated in oil, breadcrumbs, lots of black pepper and lemon) and simply grilled diver scallops. Life is good.

This bottle less forwardly attractive. Very dry, more like what I'm used to with Briords, but not as outstanding as other vintages.

Nice!

This is a winner - great mineral, citrus, salty-sea air. Didn't spend a lot of time thinking about it, but will *next* time.

Lovely again with a damn near perfect balance between minerality, acidity and subtle fruit notes. Pure, refreshing and a good match for more than just oysters. Excellent.

Starts out rocky, lemony and pretty typical but finishes with more ripe melon type flavor. Very good with pan fried fresh razor clams.

A great expression of minerality buoyed by bristling acidity, yet there is no greenness to the fruit.

So refreshing, overall puts me in the mind of a grown-up bottle of "Squirt."
Good match with simple sauteed sea scallops, and I suspect with many other things.

salt air on the nose, with some lemon. firmer mouth feel than the 05, more viscous. this is bracing stuff - nice acidity, good ripe fruit, intense minerals. great with seafood, nice on its own too, if you're a muscadet fan.

Still good on day 2, a little softer, but a cool anise seed smell I didn't notice on the first day.

Effervescent upon decanting. Double-splashed and returned to the bottle for 4 hours in the fridge before serving. Lacks the pure-lime intensity, dimensions, and distinction of the 05 Classique from this producer, but still a nice value white. Viva Loire.
