Ondanks 20 jaar op de teller zeer lekker. Qua kleur al vrij geëvolueerd zonder op geur en smaak te hebben ingeboet. Mooi rond en evenwichtig. Topwijntje voor bij de ragout van everzwijn. Helaas laatste fles.

Checking in on this 20 year old with braised short ribs and pappardelle, and it's still drinking well and a great pairing. Tannins are pretty integrated now, though now that I'm past dinner and standalone sipping, I'm getting a little grip. Bricking garnet color with transparency. Aromas of roses, tar, fennel, dry spices, black tea, and maple syrup. Medium (+) body, acid, and finish, with flavors of high toned red fruits, lemon, orange peel, spice, and minerals. This is a great wine, although I'm not quite as high on it as the last bottle 8 years ago.

shared with pat at selkirk manor. celebrating the completion of another week of staying in place/sipping in place due to covid-19. i continue to pull bottles from the cellar with past due drink by dates. even though some sources projected further longevity, lack of recent feedback from other tasters prompted me to see what was going on with this wine. the wine proved to be very substantial. deep purple color. generous fruit on the nose. complex mouth feel and taste profile. coffee, chocolate, earth, dark skin fruit. firm structure. drinking very well now. doesn't look or taste like a nineteen year old bottle. will probably continue to show well for several more years. a nice find from lbw. will look for more recent vintage.

Quick note from memory. Classic Monforte character. Black cherry, hints of tar and violets. Big and punchy, somewhat chewy tannins. Quite enjoyable now but patience is really what it calls for. At least 4-5 years in my book. 90p

heel erg gelijklopend met vorige notitie. Wel alles opgedronken op dag 1. Sterk verbeterend naarmate avond vorderde, dus best een uurtje van tevoren in karaf doen.

Classic nose of black cherry, tar and violets. Palate reflects nose. Just picking up tertiary flavors with age. Tannins softening and pleasantly chewy. Better on day two, but just a bit. Very nice Barolo gettin' in it's groove.

This wine has developed even further. So smooth and easy to drink. Very pleasant taste and well developed fruits and tannins. A great value for the money I think ($49).

gedronken over 2 avonden.

Weekly tasting group #158; A mixed set of red wines. (@ My place): Transparent garnet red. In the bouquet earth, mushrooms, forest floor, mint and spiciness. On the palate juicy and firm dark cherries, earth, iron and other minerals. Also some toast and coffee as well as some licorice. Good acidity and friendly tannin. The wine is completely ready now, but no real hurry; it will last another few years.

Served along with other wines to complement Lamb Osso Buco, this was the favorite of the evening. Decanted for an hour prior to serving the entrée, this bottle was ready to enjoy. It exhibited an enticing nose, a nice balance of dark cherry fruit and mellow tannins and a long finish.

seems that my previous experience with this wine was an off-bottle, this bottle showed lots of potential with a good acidity structure, a typical Barolo
Well developed and completely ready to drink right out of the bottle now. Nice nose, excellent taste, and just nothing to say bad about it. Excellent value for the money I think (I bought 12 bottles @ $49 each).

Still quite a bit of tannic grip, but developing nice secondary/tertiary flavors. Falls apart a bit after a couple hours, so I'm not sure how much longer it will hold, but a pleasant, rustic Barolo.

PNP and I would decant in the future. Earthy, musty on the nose in the beginning, fruit became slightly more prominent as we drank it. Has at least another 3-4 good drinking years.

this bottle was offered blind to me, the mint and eucaluptus made me think of an Australian wine, full of flavors but lacking a bit of precision, too much wood

Regular dinner group (@ My place): Beautiful and expressive bouquet with mint, earth and spiciness. On the palate still dark fruits and even some espresso. Beautiful wine. Mature now, but it can last a few years as well.

nice and aromatic - floral bouquet - bit on the delicate side - slightly tannic initially but dissipated with about an hour of air - smooth and easy to drink

Nice wine, but requires a lot of air right now, and I will wait a few more years before opening my other two bottles. Initially the tannins and acidity overpower the cherry fruit and smoky, spicy tertiary notes. After 3-4 hours in the decanter, the fruit comes out a bit more as does the smoke and cinnamon, and the tannins are only felt on the finish. Wine continued to improve until it was finished 12 hours after opening. Relatively full body for a barolo lacking the classic tar and roses flavor profile, but still enjoyable as long as you are not a purist for old/classically styled barolos.

Deep, yet transparent, garnet, with a bit of bricking at the edges. Beautiful, and varietally correct, nose of roses and tar, which I'm really loving. Red and dark red fruit palate with hint of iodine, and very good acidity and a long, and somewhat explosive, finish. This is delicious. Loving it now, but there's still a fair amount of tannic structure that's starting to dry me out towards the end of the bottle, and I think a few more years will see improvement. Stoked to have a few more bottles to wait and see.

it has a very rich nose, but it is still very high in acids, it is still too early to drink this, it has a lot of substance and is very rich on the flavor-departement, so the score could rise with more cellartime, it's a very typical Barolo, nowhere else in the world you will find this stuff ;)

This drank beautifully. I was only able to decant for about 10 minutes. Yet it was open and nuanced from the start. Not sure if it has further improvement ahead, but based on this bottle I wouldn't hesitate to drink now.

classy stuff, soft start then a little heat/alcohol in the middle pallet and a spicy aftertaste, already quite evolved but still a lot of years in it, 90-91 score

Monthly tasting club LTC; No real theme, Fully blind challenge. (By me @ LWH): In the bouquet earth, autumn forest, cherries, tobacco and leather. On the palate the same impressions, good acidity and length. In fact a pity this was my last bottle. A great pleasure now and probably for the next 5 years.
