Still forward, mature Zin fruit of plum/prune, brown sugar and cedar. In the mouth, soft, mature, very even, elegant, medium weight and low acid. I thought this might be too old but it was very good and enjoyable. Now.

After an hr decant the nose had a fig jam component. On re palate you taste a light to medium bodied spicy apricots. With a hint of vanilla sweet finish.

Spice & pepper bomb! PnP at a chinese resto, very harsh on the tongue on initial taste. Even overwhelmed my roasted pigeon. Unless you're into a spicy zin, I would not reco this one.

Clearly recognizable as Zin but the fruit is somewhat like fake sweet candied fruit with some noticeable bitterness (like the old saccharin sweetener). Good spice as well, but quite hollow bodied and lacking balancing acidity. Finish is quite harsh with a lot of heat. I really had a hard time drinking this and had to pour half my glass down the drain. Too bad, because I found the spice component of this wine very nice but the rest of the experience was horrible. 2nd day: Considerably better. The bitterness is mostly gone and this is more drinkable. Bump score from 75 to 80.

Light for an "old vine" zin. Spice and alcohol on the initial taste, mild tannins, darker fruit flavors. Made for a good pizza wine. Our scoring is based on the exceptional $4 price we paid for it. Dial the rating down if you're paying more for it.

Tasted outdoors at a Rancheria Indian Casino in Jackson, CA. Couldn't get away from the smell of cigar-weed on the nose, but that might (most probably) had to do with the cigar stand down the way. Also got grenadine, sour cherry and little pepper there. Cherry flavors with a little leather on the finish. Out of balance, hollow in the mid-palate, and hot on the finish, I've had much better from this producer.

Mostly used for cooking. Reduced for a sauce to pour over Venison. The rest was consumed. Average at best.

Nice spices but not very full of a taste. Almost watery after taste. Not recommended to buy again.

Decent but not exceptional. Not a big zin. Probably wouldn't buy again.

88-89 points. Deep and intense raspberry on the nose and palate. Leathery pepper and spice. A great value.
