Surprisingly different experience than the notes below. Well integrated and aged CNDP with a great nose, resolved tannins, the fruit a blend of darker strawberry and herbs w a hint of prune, medium body and a somewhat short finish. In a nice drinking window that may not last for too long but not over the hill by any stretch.

Every time I open this I kick a score and note down the line. Last bottle. Still hot, with a stewed and porty gestalt. Ripe, black fruit and spices and a dried out finish. Time has not done this wine favors and rather exposed it a bit. Solar vintage for sure. 84

Ruby. Licorice, garrigue, and blackberry. Chewy, savory, medium to full bodied wine. Classic big Chateauneuf palate with excellent mix of herbs, anise, and both black and dark red fruit. Really no surmaturité here. Lingering finish of soil, graphite, cocoa. Another in a recent run of 2007's that outperformed my expectations based upon early tastings of the vintage. Not hot or soupy as I feared.

Purchased at release. Not a lot of aroma which seems typical of 2007 CdP. Full bodied and rich. This is fine but boring and shows the over ripeness inherent to the ‘07s. Many will like this, but it’s not for me. Shows none of the funk of the previous bottle. Drink now-2021+. 88? (T says 93).

Library release. Smells of old, wine-soaked wood and slightly of oxidation. I used to love this wine and it was one of the few 2007 CdPs I liked. I need to open a bottle that I purchased at release to see if there is a difference. Some kirsch liquor and spice. Sweet fruit with grilled herb switches. Plenty will love this, but there’s a muddled, unclean character I can’t shake. Not for me. 88?

Library Release (I also have some purchased at release). This is now past its prime and starting to dry out. That said, it is still quite nice, and has some freshness left, if not an abundance of sweet fruit. Dried cherry and red apple skin as well as hints of lavender and rosemary. Savory umami and good acidity. Drink now. 90

brick with orange rim - burnt nose - stewed over-ripe fruit mouth - bitter aftertaste and hot alcoholic finish - was drinkable with food, which hid many of the flaws - but not at all pleasant by itself - not a good example of the 2007 Rhone vintage - the surprising diversity of comments about this wine leads me to expect there is significant bottle/case variation and I got one of the bad ones

Subdued nose. Pleasantly sweet fruit, good acidity, medium body, silky, with a bit of remaining grip. Nicely balanced, unlike some of the other 2007's I've had, which can be a bit over the top. An excellent basic cuvee that is drinking well now, but should last several more years.

HOS has it right. These '07s are big boys and very fruit driven but I really do think they have the structure to age as the ones I'm opening up now are so youthful. Maybe not a classic style but it sure is enjoyable.

Opened for an hour before drinking. Wow, just wow. This just keeps getting better. The tannins have integrated leaving a full bodied, seamless wine of kirsch, herbs, earth. Probably at its best now but should hold for a few years. I'm disappointed that this is bottle 10 of the case as we obviously drank the others too early. Oh well.

I am losing interest in the initially over hyped 2007 CDPs. This bottle follows many that have been overripe, raisiny, alcoholic and unbalanced. That is not surprising given some critics' and stores' propensities to advocate for those fruit forward early tastings. Lots of briar, jammy center fruit, some hint of black pepper and a lack of elegance ,even after a good decant.

The wine is dark garnet with lighter garnet at the rim and clear with a very slight haze. The smells are plum, blackberry, cherry, and beautiful floral aromatics. The tastes are black cherry, pepper, garrigue, blackberry, plum, dark chocolate, espresso, and cedary notes. Complex with velvety tannins, good acidity, and a lengthy finish.

Pnp. Initially, some heat which resolved over the first hour. Then it was kirsch, herbs, earth. Full bodied, long finish, well integrated. Just a great bottle. Unfortunately, this seems to have strong bottle variation as my bottle 3 months ago was significantly weaker than this showing. I don't see much upside here but suggest a short decant to start.

Fabulous expression of this Provencal wine at its apogee. Deep Red colour foretells of a great wine with fantastic mouthfeel. The nose is ripe nectarines at first developing into ripe plums ending with aromas of fresh morels. Marvellous right now.

Maybe this was not the best bottle, based on some of the previous ratings, but I found this wine to be acidic, over-concentrated, strong, and lacking any charm. It was over-shadowed by a $20 Bourgogne.

For what should such a "Thing"( is it Wine?) be good for ? There is no food pairing for such an overalcoholic, overconcentrated sirup and a horror to drink it solo. Yes, but good to impress as a first sip in a tasting and yes, there are the points from the "Professionals". Sorry, not from me. This is a caricature of a Chateauneuf.

This delivers a beautiful plum and blackberry fruited, incensed, provincial herb driven nose which leads to a great layered expression of red and black licorice, earth, black tea and tobacco flavors. Hot, jammy and disjointed upon opening. Improved somewhat with a half-hour of air, showing ripe red and black berry fruit along with savory black olive and prominent, drying tannins through the finish. Gassed and left overnight, a bit more approachable on day 2, but still ripe and fruit-forward with a tannic finish. Not my style at the moment, can only hope that time is kind to my remaining bottles.

Started drinking this for lunch. Somewhat restrained nose with initial floral notes that became enrobed by alcohol vapor, indicating the wine is still young. First impression on the palate was the appealing sweet taste of red fruits, the finish was long enhanced by the noticeably young tannins. By dinner, the wine has become quite fragrant on the nose while remaining delicious on the palate. Another delectable CDP, and good QPR for the $39 I paid for this bottle.

Best moments were immediately after popping and pouring on Day 1. A rush of fruit and raisin only marred by some heat. With Day 2 the burn is gone, more pronounced is tar, allspice, mint, leather and chalk. A bruiser that just isn't flowing harmoniously. Have a lot of more expensive 2007s sleeping and hope this is an exception.

Too over-the-top for me. Ultra-ripe fruit, prominent alcohol, over-active tannins with a bitter finish. This marred a wine that did have a certain charm, and in some ways was delicious, especially after a couple hours.

This was friendly, open and fruit forward but in a good way as in it didn't go all 2007 over the top on me. Decent enough acidity and a tannic backstop finish the deal.

Opened the bottle 2 hours before heading to dinner @ Lorena's. I don't drink CdP too frequently, this Paul A was extremely tasty delivering candy apple fruit, hint of old oak, yet very vibrant, all delivered in a silky smooth rich medium body texture. While it is drinking well now, it has all the elements for cellaring and extradordinary drinking 10 years from now.

Initially the nose wasn't giving much. Certainly didn't give away the big full bodied flavor profile revealed on first sip. Beautifully silky. Nice weight without being heavy. Big fruits but balancing acidity. Layers of flavors; plums, raspberries, spice, earth, coffee, tar and black tea. Did I mention silkiness??? Vibrant. Mose definitely opened up bot all the action was on the palate.
Corks: Chateauneuf du Pape (Rossford, OH): Slightly candied on the nose, with red cherries. Decent structure. Easy-drinking, slightly lean (even at 14.5%). Good acid, fruit-forward. $40

Starts on a note of pure, dark raspberry with a touch of fig. Followed by a strong hint at garrigue, chocolate, and graphite. The acid and tannin are strong in this one, and that's definitely going to allow it to sail for some time. Solid finish. Solid wine. Will be even more awesome in 5-10 years.

purple color. Full currant, blackberry, loam flavors and aroma. notes of charcoal, minerality touching on dusty gravel, and slightly vegetal in a pleasing way. medium-full body with fine-grained tannins. This wine really fills the whole palate and finishes well. Great wine for a heavy dish. This is very young, but is drinking well now. Should improve for a very long time.

In most vintages, I consider this a good, not great, entry-level Chateauneuf. The 2007 is more than that. While it's still a little hot, there's lush purple ripe blackberry fruit, garrique, a touch of fig and leather.

Two hour decant. Cherries, graphite, and mineral nose. Very impressive balance on this wine. Lovely flavors of concentrated cherry, red berries, mineral, and a hint of herb and spice. Seamless transition to the lengthy persistent finish that has the perfect proportion of acid and dusty tannins. Drinking very well at a young age but has the guts to go the long haul. The total package and an amazing CdP at $33.

This wine brings layers of flavors but has an elegant air to it. Red berries on the nose, along with some graphite and tar I more readily associate with Bordeaux. Spice on the palate and fine tannins. Firm at this young age, but very enjoyable. Fantastic stuff. Would like to buy more for enjoyment over the next few years.

Pop and pour for large group. The intense primary fruit made it a crowd favorite, partly because it masks some of the classic non-fruit CdP flavors and tannins. Should be a GREAT $35 bottle down the road.

Opened the night before as I was bringing it to dinner the next day and did not want to deal with decanting. Good nose of plum and dark berries, taste of same with a tannin wall behind the fruit. Decanted for about 3 and a half hours before pairing with filet mignon. Beautifully soft and floral nose of violets, white pepper, plums, and blackberries. These flavors carry over in the taste with the flowers coming through and dominating the finish. Interesting experience with this wine as I found the alcohol (14.5%) to be pretty out of balance before and after the meal. The food seemed to mask it somehow. With the food, this wine was pushing 92-93 in my book, but on it's own the alcohol is really tough to fight through. Much more elegant in styling than the 05 and completely worth the $30 price point, perhaps with some time in the bottle it will come together to provide a more cohesive experience.

Lush and round. Lots of strawberry, plum, and sweet raspberry. Tannins are not aggressive. Could have used a decant.

Decanted as the second bottle of the night. No detailed notes. Still young with a long life ahead. Needs extensive decanting to allow it really come alive. The rest of my bottles are in the cellar for awhile.

Dark purple in color. Fruit forward but not overly sweet. Could use a bit more acidity though still pretty well balanced. Rich, chewy tannins provide a viscous mouth feel.

Lots of promise but needs more time. Berry, meat, savory bitters, graphite and tarragon. Balanced with a nice sting but hold bottles for a few years to see it blend together.

Very distinct nose, with candied red raspberries, following through on the palate. Lacking tannins, but healthy acid.

Opened one for a Seder. Three hour decant was no where near enough. At that mark there was tar and liquorice. None of the silk, meat, and longer finish that developed after 6+ hours.

The tannins didn't overpower just added some good definition. Full bodied with long finish. Good QPR at $33.

WA90-93. dark berries, plum, cherry, pomegranate juice, hints of concrete, asphalt and peppery bittersweet cocoa notes. med. to full bodied. this was a nice balance of juicy yet bone dry fruit that was well structured with firm dusty tannins.
