I love old Ridge Zins (and I don't consider '93 old), but this particular bottle was a bit tired with not a lot going on. Still enjoyable, but well below expectation.

Beautiful, beginning to brick, ruby red, starting salmon at rim. Brilliantly complex, etheric, deep and seductive cherry liqueur (in the best sense of the word) and tobacco nose. Great, vibrant, acid driven and glycerin-laden palate. Almost Bordeaux-like in it's red-fruited, dry, brambly, earthy, herbal, tobacco laden complexity. Deep, rich, long, superbly balanced, and delicious, this is what aged Draper Ridge wines are all about. Phenomenal with local, young, parmesan style cheese. Even better at the 2 hour mark. Will last for another decade at least, but at a perfect peak now. Bravo! 94 pts quality, 96 pts personal style preference.

1993 Ridge Jimsomare Zinfandel I’ve had this before and something was off with this bottle. A reductive, rubbery nose and a woody/rasiany fruit. 14.9% ABV N/R

Jimsomare Vertical at The White House (The White House, Anaheim, CA): This was like night and day to my previous experience with this wine. Wood and maple on the nose. Soft and round. Clipped finish and showing some spice and tannin on the finish. Where did that clean, balanced almost minerally wine go?

A really nice example of what an aged Zin can be when made right. The bright acidity really stood out on this picking up the fruit and making a big overall impression of freshness. The fruit was still lively if not complex. I can't see any improvement coming with any more age though the acidity should help it hold for a while. Would be very good with dinner also. Very good.

The zin was in remarkably good shape, considering that Draper had suggested drinking by 2002. It had lost some of its fruit and most of its tannins, but it was very elegant. We drank it along side a 2003 Ridge Nervo ATP zin, and the color of both wines was nearly identical.

Still very fresh and vibrant at age 26. Red and black fruits, bramble, nice acidity, long finish
