Four years has passed since last popping open one of these bad boys. While the color is no longer primary, it nevertheless retains a deep purple core and burgundy rim. Rhubarb gets the jump on the attack, but ripe plum is just behind it along with sweet vanilla and Zin funkiness. The finish is all coffee, toffee and mocha. As stunningly good as this is, I almost wish I’d pulled a Geyersville to compare with it instead of the ‘06 Pagani (which was blown away by the Paso Robles. 100% Zinfandel. 14.5% alc. Some heavy sediment being thrown off just now. With Rodney Young, Mandi Smith and DDB over smoked beef brisket. Recommended.

This wine has held up very well. Nose of macerated fresh dark cherries, green herbal spices, a bit of vanilla and stone. Tastes of concentrated ripe berry fruit and dark cherries, bursting with sweet and tart flavors, neither jammy nor overripe. It is balanced by very smooth tannins and light minerality, producing a long dry finish with a bit of black pepper. Quite a luscious zin with no hint of oxidization (even at 8 years old). I am going to have a hard time waiting to finish the remaining half of this bottle until tomorrow. My score is at the high end of the distribution, but I think this is an exceptionally tasty zin.

Nicely done zin. Big, yes, alcoholic, but still remarkably balanced. Good fruit, not too much oak, tannic, but tannins mostly coming around and supporting structure

Inky dark purple. Orange limb. Very good balance between fruit and tannins. NOT a fruit bomb. Red cherry, vanilla, currants, wood. Peppery mouth feel towards end. Finishes with leather and vanilla. Sophisticated Zin.

Nice zin...great price to quality. Candied cherry and vanilla on the nose along with a bit of baking spice. Well balanced palate of red fruit, vanilla and a bit of oak. Tannins are integrated now keeping the alcohol in line. Medium finish. This is NOT an overripe cali zin thank goodness!

Our third Zin of the day with BBQ, good company and a great race from Atlanta. A deep and primary purple showing the incredible youth of this wine. This is more claret like than the 2010 Ridge and Hug, but it is still young. The back label, written in ‘08, suggests this will be best in 2012 and 2013. Well, if that’s the case then it is just approaching “best” and I suspect it will be “best” between now and 2020. Loads of rhubarb, sweet Zin funk and toffee and mocha notes. Ok, some sweet vanilla somewhere in there also. Nothing but wonderful Zin exuberance here. My first taste of this vintage. 100% Zinfandel. 14.5% alc. With pork BBQ (yes, more BBQ). Recommended.

In Vino Veritas Session 2 (MIT): Black grape + cranberry + plum nose. Pretty vanillic - plenty of oak. Very juicy, fruity palate - tastes a lot like candy. Extremely tasty if you like that kind of thing. A little over-the-top for me, but excellent stuff regardless. 100% Zinfandel. 14.5%, $29.

Drank this following a 08 LC Cherry Red -- very much points out the contrast to the GSM+pS in the LC, the 100% Zin in the Ridge was simple and drinkable, but paled... this tasting says 'drink up', though may not be fair comparison.

I enjoyed this one more than the last bottle. Definitely needed some decanting, would recommend an hour or so. Medium in body, nice viscosity and deep red color. Aromas of dark fruit, pepper and a bit earthy on the nose. Raspberry, Blackberry and hint of pepper on the palate. Nicely balanced with appropriate sweetness and soft tannins. Medium finish. I wouldn't call this chewy or jammy, but more elegant in style.

Like some others have said, very drinkable Zin but not oustanding. Red/dark fruit, leather & a bit earthy on the nose. Red fruit dominates on the palate & the funkiness shows on the finish. Considering the price of the truly exceptional Zinfandels on the market I found this to be of a good value at less than $20.

Was not as good as I remember but then I have not been thrilled with Ridge Zins for a while. Decanted about 4 hours and had lots of grape flavor. Not hot like recent Zins from Ridge that as I have opened and not get any smell of vinegar. Wine went ok with a nice rib-eye.

I was told to pair this with homemade pizza, and that's actually the perfect pairing for this wine. Good, but perhaps not excellent. Honestly, I love Ridge for the restraint and refinement, and I think of Paso as generally way over the top, so I think this wine had those factors in tension, for an outcome that was decent but I'm not convinced it can totally work to a great effect. 89-90.

Earlier in the week I popped open an '05 Scherrer OMV and drank it over the course of three nights savoring each sip. What an elegant Zinfandel that was. Probably the first time I tasted strawberry in a Zin and "Oh the Strawberry!"
Tonight I pop a Ridge Paso. I know what to expect. Big ripe fruit, big texture, nice tartness, brambly black and red fruits and nice mellow spices. Tonight it just enveloped me. It's been 4 hours since I popped it and I'm on the last glass out of the bottle. This wine just sung to me for some reason and wouldn't let me put it down. Some nights a wine just clicks. 14.5% alcohol. 100% Zinfandel from Dusi Ranch Vineyard in Paso Robles, planted in 1923. A great year for wine lovers, but a terrible year for baseball. On October 15, the New York Yankees beat the New York Giants to win their first ever World Series, four games to two.
Popped and poured. Dark ruby red. Expressive red fruit aromas. Rich and concentrated cherry, blackberry and plum on the palate. Very pure and opulent, less complexity than I've come to expect with Ridge zins. Very nice indeed!

California Wine Tasting Adventure; 8/2/2010-8/6/2010 (Napa, Sonoma): Tasted at winery. Quite nice. The style here is a little more subtle and restrained, with more acidity. Nice jammy fruit notes on the nose, framed well by a touch of oak. Sweet baking spices. Nice raspberry, cranberry and lush red fruits on the palate, with nice dusty tannins. This is still young but it is drinking well right now.

Very deep red-purple color. Opens a bit hot but that goes into the background as the wine opens. Beautiful rich spicy nose with ripe plums and blackberries. Plums and lovely spice on the palate showing the American oak a bit. Medium bodied with a little tannin, ripe but avoids any pruniness. The wine has gained in complexity over the last year and is really starting to show its stuff. Nice medium length finish. Really delicious with roast duck breast with wild mushrooms. What Paso Zin is all about!
Delicious now and room for improvement over the next couple of years. 90+

A lighter style Zinfandel than we have been having lately. The body is much lighter, the color of garnet to ruby. The nose is herbal, raspberry, graphite, with a touch of cranberry. The taste is smooth tart berry, acidic middle with a softer tannin. Though this wine will make you pucker if you swish it around it is quite smooth. A different style it reminds me of Pinot Noir, 87 a lighter Zin

Ok but nothing earth shattering. Opened and tried over 3 hours with it never really opening up at all. No real character to it and really a let down. Not bad but with all the hypre about the 07' vintage for Zin I was expecting a little more. I'll try the same bottle tonight and see if it shows anything more.

Karen loved this which is a good thing since we have a bunch of bottles! Color surprising light for a Ridge Zin. Shows just a touch of heat on the nose (14.5%), nothing really intrusive. Fairly soft, not much tannin. The American oak is barely noticeable with no coconut. Soft, ripe plum flavors but a nice little bite on the finish suggesting a good food match. At this point it's a delicious but straightforward Zin with perhaps a bit of upside. Still a nice 07 Ridge to drink while waiting on the Geyser, etc.

A typical Paso zin. Light and jammy. Nice job. Well integrated.

Nice zin and more refined than many. Dark fruits, a very nice offering.

Had a taste, quite nice and enjoyable but not on par with Geyserville or Lytton Springs.

Wow, raisins, raisins, raisins. It was interesting, but I don't know how I'd feel about more than a taste.
