This is a blend of 92% Zinfandel with 3% Petite Sirah, and 5% Alicante Bouschet. The color is deeply hued. On the nose, Zin funk, rhubarb and cherry with still a touch of brown sugar, maybe. Some nice herbs and dusty rose A full mid-palate and longer finish of vanilla, coffee and mocha. The mouthfeel is dusty smooth. This is a wine that is hitting its stride in a very pleasant way. Some heavy sediment lines the shoulder of the bottle. 14.3% alc. With country ham in red-eye gravy over polenta (an excellent pairing). Unfortunately, my last bottle. 02.02.23. Recommended.

A blend of 92% Zin and 5% Alicante Bouschet and 3% Petite Sirah. Magenta on the rim and deep burgundy at the core. The nose is dominated by rhubarb, brown sugar, crushed dried roses and something (pleasingly) herbal. Flavors track the nose with some Zin funk and alcoholic heat on the finish. And also something sweet in the finish. Gone are the flavors of cinnamon, plum, and coffee flavors. The tannins are dusty. This is very ready to drink and probably beginning to plateau down. 14.3% alc. With homemade pizza of sausage and pepperoni. Recommended.

Deep ruby. Black cherries; blackberries; and spicy, woody, forestal notes on the nose. Big, rich, mouth coating, with dark, ripe fruit and noticeable oak notes of vanilla, spice. Medium acidity, medium-low tannin, good length. Not a shy zin, flirting with being too big and ripe, but somehow holding the line well. Very good.

Dark red color. Deeply fruited nose, of raspberry, cherry, black pepper, both weedy and having a touch of wood spice. On arrival, medium-low tannin and medium acidity - vivacious stuff. In the mouth, it's ripe not overripe fruit, and what a blast that is. Huge black pepper, some vanilla and chocolate, and a real zing of acidity in the finish. This is about as good as zinfandel gets. Bottle #6 of six.

This is the first time I’ve pulled the ‘07 version of this Ridge Zin. It’s a blend of 92% Zin and 5% Alicante Bouschet and 3% Petite Sirah. This is a rich, bright wine showing flavors of red cherry, cinnamon, Zin funk, cinnamon, plum, coffee, and more cinnamon. Not nearly as much brown sugar as I had expected. The tannins are dusty. The mouthfeel is fresh, clean and a tad tannic. It’s an excellent match for the shortribs. On the 3rd day, it’s richer, bigger and better. 14.3% alc. With (beef) shortribs (G&G recipe). 08.16-18.14 Recommended.

Dark red and violet color. Huge nose of ripe raspberries and red cherries, black pepper, vanilla, earthy and brushy notes, fresh sawn wood. Wow, rare to perceive the wood in this bottleing; adds complexity, force. On arrival, medium tannin and medium acidity. Flavors are immediate and forceful: deep fruit, black pepper, vanilla and chocolate. Spectacularly long finish, well-fruited and spicy. Bottle #5 of six.

Pulled straight from our very cold cellar. Cold, it was quite primary with a bit of VA, a bit of vanilla and a slight lactic note. As it warmed, the plummy fruit came to the fore. There was a good spine of acidity that kept the wine seeming fresh, even at 14.3% ABV. Still young, it has years yet ahead of it.

Dark red-violet color. Aroma of black and red raspberry, vanilla, brushy California hillside growth, black pepper, then more vanilla and sawdust. On entry, medium tannin and balanced acidity; smooth texture for old vine but young zinfandel wine. Flavor is Zin-berry (Doug Nalle's term) brambly cherry-berry fruit, with vaniall and black pepper. Heads towards the richness of a framboise. Luscious finish, this stuff is ready to drink and by no means in danger of falling apart for at least another couple years. Bottle #4 of six.

Dark red color, nearly opaque. Rich aromas of vanilla, raspberry, cherry, and blackberry. Palate has sweet berry notes without seeming jammy (but heading that way) with vanilla and briar accents. Drinking well as a young Pagani and expect further positive development for my tastes. Drink or hold.

Dark red-purple. Sweet young wine nose, giving raspberry, vanilla, spicy mixed herbs and a little roof tar. On entry, medium tannin and acids, balanced and harmonious enough for holding or current drinking. Lush cherry fruit and mixed herbs on the palate. Delightful wine from the finest vintage of that decade for zinfandel cultivation. Bottle #3 of six.

When drinking a Zin, the first adjective to jump to mind usually isn't "elegant," but that's what screamed out to me with the first whiff and sip of this beauty. Wonderful typicity (cherries, cracked pepper, etc.) with additional old vine complexity, but it's the balance and restraint (love how the alcohol stays in check) that make this wine special and why it's worth the premium you pay for Ridge.

NIce stuff, right perfect to drink. DArk dark garnet. Nose a bit hard to get much, light smoky fruit. Bit sweetness. NIce palate feel, balanced, integrated, nice fruit wave, expands in the palate, wow, extends to a decent finish. Went well w the pizza adding some spice. Working the acid of the tomato and cutting the fat from the cheese. This still has a nice tight finish. fresh, so drinking great w time left. Not zery zinny.

14.3% alcohol. 92% Zinfandel, 5% Alicante, 3% Petite. From an exceptional historic vineyard planted in 1902. Theodore Roosevelt becomes the first American President to ride in an automobile when he rides a Columbia Victoria through Hartford, Conn.
Medium ruby red. Bright red fruit aromas. Flavors of Rasberry, black cherry, pepper and spice. Rich, pure, deep. Wonderful mouthfeel. Lingering aftertaste.
This is a great entry historic vineyard. Why? It is very generous and lush. A crownd pleaser. A major attraction is the producers that flock around this gem. Like Ridge, Bedrock and Carlisle. One of my favorite historic vineyards.

Popped & decanted for approximately 1 hour. Very aromatic; aromas of raspberries and pepper filled the room from the decanter. After some time the pepper dies down though the bold raspberry fruit remains, along with strong vanilla cream and hints of other red fruits like cranberries. Surprising balance of acidity and alcohol; the former adds a tart fruit component to the palate while the latter is noticeable but in no way overwhelming. The lack of complexity is disappointing. Its all primary fruit with gobs of oak vanilla and while the tannins are in the background, there is no extra added earth or spice (some hints of black pepper though not much). 14.3% abv gives it a big mouthfeel which also goes down smooth; finish is good as well. Food didn't seem to help with any aspect of the palate, it stayed as big and fruity as ever.
Style & Quality: B. Lots of oak in this wine but I think this has become a hallmark of the style. The flavors are clean and the alcohol isn't a problem, but other than the depth of bold fruit and vanilla it really doesn't offer much else. Needs greater complexity, especially at the price I paid.
Value: C. $40 / pop for this is rather steep, especially since Ridge is touting the Pagani Ranch vineyard. The wine has been made in a "modern" style devoid of terroir so why am I paying a premium for fruit from this vineyard? Admittedly, you can tell the grapes were well grown, the wine-making excellent, and the wine enjoyable, but you can find $20 Zins that also meet these criteria.
Overall: B-

14.2% alcohol. Zin, Alicante, Petite. From the great Pagani Vineyard, planted in 1902. A great year for wine lovers and a great year for college football - the Standord Indians meet the Michigan Wolverines in the first Bowl game, played in Pasadena, CA. Dark ruby red, this wine has gotten much more aromatic, even over the last several months. Rasberries, cherries and spice on the palate. An aftertaste that lingers for 45 seconds. This wine is a jewel!

14.3% alcohol. 92% Zinfandel, 5% Alicante, 3% Petite. From Sonoma Valley's iconic Pagani Ranch Vineyard, planted 108 years back. Dark, crystalline ruby red. A somewhat reticent red fruit nose. Well balanced cherries and rasberries on the palate with overtones of vanilla and white pepper. Rich and lush on the palate with great purity and focus. Lingering aftertaste.
Winemakers that I know revere this vineyard. Soon you'll be able to sample this vineyard from some of California's most celebrated winemakers. Paul Draper here, Mike Officer and Morgan Twain-Peterson to come. Pagani Ranch is a great introduction to the spendor of old-vine Zinfandel.

Crimson/cranberry color. Grapey aromas (like standing near a tote during picking) dominate with plum, red berries, and vanilla underneath. On the palate, this continues to have a very primary and youthful palate, with grape, plum, vanilla, a hint of cardamom and anise, and blackberry showing. The tannins are extremely fine and well integrated, as is the alcohol. This is very suave for a young Pagani Ranch from Ridge. Will reward 3-5 in the cellar. Resample in 18 months.

taste: Full bodied and powerful with bold tones of blackberries, black cherries, and spice tones. It holds the fruit very well on the palate along with some good chewy tannins
overall: A real bruiser of a zin, but still holds a sense of balance as it doesn't go over the top at all

Sour and smoky, with some malolactic character. Concentrated flavors of raisin and blackberry pie on the palate. Dark and well-built overall, with a fine finish.

I just had a taste- chewy tannins, black cherries. Not jammy- strong oak flavors. Too overpowering for food right now. Prefer the Seghesio Zins.

Really deep fruit, a bit too much right now for food, but has a huge upside potential in a few years.

Glunz Wines Fall Portfolio tasting (The Westin, Chicago IL): nose: brooding and bold nose with rich tones of black cherries, spices, black fruits, and blackberries. While its a rich nose, it is balanced at the same time
taste: Full bodied and powerful with bold tones of blackberries, black cherries, and spice tones. It holds the fruit very well on the palate along with some good chewy tannins
overall: A real bruiser of a zin, but still holds a sense of balance as it doesn't go over the top at all
