This has really improved in the last 2yrs. Still needs 10-15mins to open up in a glass but will easily hold for 5 (maybe 10) years. Light but lovely pure red fruit (strawberry) with tannins and acidity. In 5yrs this will have a lot more earthiness. Great food wine - paired perfectly with mushroom Marsala beef fillets. Try to hold off for 3-5yrs. 92pts now, should increase a point

In a perfect spot and just screams Volnay with strawberry, florals, earthy and spice all in a juicy elevated frame. Terrific now and should hold for 5+ years.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Pre-Easter tasting (Private Location): Compared to the Becker we had before I liked this a lot more because this is what I search for in Pinot. Elegance, straightness and precision. Very similar to my impression in 2016. Red currant, earth and some herbal notes on the nose. Minimalistic and straightforwardly. On the palate wiry with a lively acidity, so fresh and vital. Harmonic without being otherworldly complex. A lovely wine to drink.

Asperg Wine Syndrome Tasting Group: Pre-Easter tasting (@Private location): Tasted blind. Clear, medium garnet color. Clean, at first quite closed and dense nose. With air and time it opens up and reveals very elegant and fine red fruit, chalky mineral notes and some herbs. Dry, racy acidity and fine grained tannin. Medium body (13% abv). Very interesting saltiness, combined with red fruit (cherry, redcurrant) and herbs. It has lots of tension, fine structure and texture, sinewy, juicy. Long and fruity finish. Certainly not at its full peak yet. Lovely Burgdundy! 91-92+

Der 2008er Lafarge Volnay VE zeigt immer mehr was er drauf hat. Ein toller Wein! Enorm klar, lebendig und elegant. Sehr lebendige Säure und feine Struktur. Braucht viel Luft. Nächste Flasche in so nem Jahr.

My first Lafarge. Elegance & balance are the key words. Very fine, medium body. More on the red fruit side mixed with herbs and nice acidity structure. High drinkability, very clean & focused. Tons of potential left for another decade of aging. Lovely.

Post Christmas Tasting (@Private location): Clear, medium ruby, quite youthful color. Clean, at first quite closed and dense nose. With air and time it opens up and reveals very elegant and fine red fruit highlighted with fine oak. Dry, medium acidity and fine grained tannin. Medium body (13% abv). Very interesting saltiness, combined with red fruit and herbs. It has lots of tension and pressure on the palate and makes fun to drink. Very straight and quite youthful. Has a bright future and will certainly continue to develop for at least 5+ years. Lovely Burgdundy!

Drikk likevel innen 2019.

Exquisite and expressive with notes of cherries, sous bois, animale and wood spices. Fresh, sleek and fine length and focus, finishing very elegantly. Delicious now, should keep well for some years, but why wait?

Needs some time to open up, and then exhibits sour cherries, hints of iron and licorice. Sleek and supple, has rounded out and become more approachable. Should drink well in a year or two.

Drinking a Lafarge Volnay can be a privilege in great vintages. His combination of muscular style and refined edges makes for a wonderful, warm approach to the terroir. However, 2008 is not an exemplar. A ubiquitous restaurant vintage in France and elsewhere, the 2008's provide balance, early drinking, some fruit, and some terroir- and boredom. They lack the fine chiseling of the 2010s, the fleshy fruit of the 2009s or even the sometimes early drinking fruit/ acid tension of the 2011s. This wine had an initially nice raspberry cherry and smoke nose and an elegant medium bodied, Crimson palate. Somewhat acid- driven and restrained even after a carafe( not decanter). Will improve a bit but probably not a great deal. Worth holding one.

Light transparent ruby color, fresh and complex scent of raspberries, earth and forest floor, pluss a hint of caramel/wood. Very fresh wine with marked acidity and a rather slim/lean mouth feeling, but fine length and chewy finish. Very good and perhaps will get a little rounder with time, though leanness probably due to vintage.

Really enjoyed this, nice tart fruit, with nice florals, spice and earthy notes on the nose, similar plate which has mouth watering acidity carrying the fruit throughout

Bright pure red fruit aromas of cherry and raspberry with subtle herb notes. Palate has light-to-medium body with a juicy, almost tart profile. Effervescent and lifted across the mid-palate. More brightness and juiciness in the medium finish. Nice, not the most complex, and nothing extraordinary.

Fresh, lean and linear - with some time this starts to open up and reveal damp earth, cherries and some firm tannins. Light and structured - needs some more time, but decent drinking.

Beguilingly spicy, complex, expansively fragrant nose. Lovely, mid-weight palate that shows tart red cherry fruit, iron, and a touch of woodsmoke. Very tight initially; a bit more revealing 2-3 hours after popping the cork. Nicely structured, with high but balanced acidity and ripe tannins that clamp down hard on the long finish. This seems on the verge of closing down -- glad to have caught this bottle while it was still relatively open.

Tasting with Frederic Lafarge in Volnay: This is pure fruit and berries; very aromatic, light frame, narrow structure; lots of freshness; classic volnay. classic lafarge. Somehow, I don't feel that this is a real step up from the bourgogne rouge.
