Drinking beautifully with big earthy nose, excellent cherry fruit and super long and smooth finish. Sad this is my last btl as it certainly has life left.

I thought I had drank my last bottle of this 2 1/2 years ago, but found this bottle hidden behind some other 2008 Kistler Pinots! This was a pop 'n pour at an Indian restaurant with some friends and we loved it. Kistler's big Pinot style held up great and complimented the spices in the two lamb dishes we had.

Kistler in this era is a hit-or-miss proposition, and the 2008 Kistler Pinot Noir Kistler Vineyard is a clear miss. Exhibiting over-ripe aromas of California prune, fig preserve and kirsch, framed by a generous application of creamy new oak (that actually somewhat mitigates the roasted fruit tones), it's full-bodied, spiritous and flabby, and even its hefty load of residual carbon dioxide can't enliven the flat palate or its dead flavors.
90 minute decant. Dark ruby color. Cherry and blackberry nose with vanilla and oak. Likewise on palate, with some baking spice notes. Needed decant for aromatics to develop. Drink now with a 60+ minute decant, or hold. Very well done.

I had this alongside a 2008 Kistler Pinot Noir Cuvée Catherine, and this slightly lower priced Kistler was so much better! Some notes of cola on the palate, along with black cherry fruit (black cherry cola, then?). Medium long finish. I have often called Kistler's Pinot Noirs from these years, Pinot on Steriods and this was no exception. Its a big, fully extracted wine. And it was drinking great. It was opened about 45 minutes before dinner.

Leiden dinner at Terroir: Beautiful nose, a bit like the 1996 Chave Hermitage we drank just before. Taste lots of clean red and dark fruit, quite some acidity, long finish. Lovely made wine, think this will evolve further over the next years, Very fine.

A somewhat better showing than the bottle one year ago, but still disappointing. PnP, but opened somewhat while drinking, so would benefit from a short decant. The dark red fruits came through, but the acidity was still a bit overwhelming. Still a questionable QPR.

Floral on the nose, honey and spicy on the palate. We opened the bottle for about 30mins before the first but I think you have to wait yet another 10mins in the glass for it to open up.

Popped 'n poured at a restaurant. 7 people, 4 wines, 1 of which was a white. The 3 reds where a 2010 Beau Vigne Cabernet- Romeo. A 2005 Caymus Cabernet and this.
I'm docking this a point from my last bottle, mostly because the nose was muted. It tasted great, but the bright bouquet never seemed to flourish. Still it was filled with sweet red fruit, and while the Kistler Pinots are always big, this was almost elegant.

This was a big disappointment for me - seemed like a really dark brooding over the top effort - nothing light about it. Pnp - still a big cold from the fridge. Nose and palate were more dark fruits than cherry, and a strong bitterness on the finish. Other tasters liked it more than I did, I ended up dumping to focus on the other selections.

Overall, a disappointing showing. PnP, but not much development over the hour it was consumed. Everything showed on the light side, from the cherry inflected fruit to the mouthfeel. Seems the acidity was a bit overwhelming given the absence of some fruit. Maybe just a bad bottle?? Seems out of character with other TNs. Still a questionable QPR.

Cant believe the fruit is still this bright 8 years after the vintage. I have never let these wines go beyond 8 years or so, but maybe I should try it. I was hoping for some secondary flavors to appear, but its still like a baby. Cant tell if thats good or bad.
Medium red color. Aromas of black cherries, cola and wood spices. Ripe, medium-bodied fruit in the mouth with very good depth and length. Very lithe and elegant on the palate. Not as highly extracted or rich as many Kistler pinots. Delicious with the excellent Tasmanian sea trout at Little Fish Restaurant.

Not the over-extracted fruit bomb that I was expecting. Still loads of fruit, and much bigger than any Pinot Noir from Burgundy and most from CA that I've had, it still edges into "elegant" territory. Very enjoyable and it didn't overwhelm the roast chicken that I had it with.

Light red color with a bluish hue. Fruit focused nose with aromas of redcurrant, rhubarb and blueberry mixed with soured whole milk and a touch of toffee. Equally primary on the palate with red cherry and blueberry dominating the attack. On the midpalate and finish follow licorice, toffee and butterscotch. Although the fruit is sweet and powerful it is with restraint and structure, as well as a coolness and depth that lifts the whole wine. Very good length.

Having completed a time consuming and complicated task this weekend, it was time to do a little Farm-to-Table Fresh. This paired extremely well with a freshly killed chicken from our chicken purveyor, with boiled Czech dumpings, with sweet and roasted Czech purple cabbage, and two freshly steamed artichokes. I decanted this wine for 4 hours. During the initial pour, this had a wonderfully structured nose, with red cherry fruit. The color is raspberry red, and extremely youthful. The decanting helped soften the oak, and let the rich cherry fruit bubble up from the depths of the oak barrel. This is still extremely young, but with the decant, it was clear that this is an integrated wine, with balance, and a future grace. The tannins and the oak -- while present -- were not overwhelming, and the richness of the cherry fruit brought out warmth in the chicken gravy used to bury the Czech dumpings into the delightfully rich fat of the dead bird. As the season stood on the precipice between Winter and Spring, something about this wine brought out the warmth of the moment, and reminded me of the potentiality of the impending bloom of flowers. Since I have a case of this wine, it was nice to get a sneak peak, and to anticipate its future development as the wine changes into its yet to be known future.

Deep red, beautiful nose, excellent wine. Little too sweet for my taste. Has a long finish, cherries and red fruit on the palate. Decided to try a younger Kistler to compare. May gain complexity and lose some of the fruit with age.

Completely different world from the 02 Burgundy next to it. Big, bright fruit, very fresh, very young. This is all about the fruit, not about complexity, with that in mind, it was fun to drink, no complaints about the taste. Will it develop some complexity in a few years? Who knows. But certainly needs a couple more years to round out, and should be a pretty decent Kistler then.
