(CABERNET Sant'Elena) Cabernet Bargain Dear Friends, I’ve been working on this one for a while and I finally received the go-ahead this morning. I hope everyone’s ready... A magnum of Cabernet Sauvignon, from an artisinal Friulian source, for Yes, a magnum for under $30. If you find yourself among a circle of 50 wine-geeks and don’t know what to pull from the cellar, let this top-end Cabernet (in bargain-basement clothing) be your new best friend. You can open 2-3 magnums, put them out on the table and enjoy the rest of the party – you don’t need to worry about how quickly your 750s will be drained or what to open next. When this feline and noble example comes to town, it will more than relish the opportunity to handle the wine duties (wouldn’t that be nice for a change?) From a beautiful parcel of estate Cabernet, grown at elevation (near the crisscross of Italy and Slovenia), Sant’Elena has harnessed the fine detail of Bordeaux circa 1985 with the emerging panache of the Friulian countryside. In this wine, you taste the elements, the grapes, the stones - all wrapped together with a silken and mid-weight texture that is not only lovely, it leaves the taster energized instead of fatigued. The wine evolves over the course of the night and into the next day with subtle notes of Harrar and Sidamo that emerge (along with a deeper mouthfeel). At for a 750ml it would be a decent value – at for a magnum, the tariff goes without saying... This parcel is directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance. ONE SHIPMENT ONLY for the US. FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 12 magnums/person until we run out... 2006 Sant'Elena Cabernet Sauvignon 1.5lt (Friuli) - (WA90) (this is not Elena Dell’Adami; compare at ) To order: nicki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to depart from Friuli – it will arrive in the late spring (please check OARS for local pick-up after June 1st). It will ship during the Fall shipping season and should be a splendid drink over the following 4-6 years.
