Garagiste ********************** Cedric Bouchard Dear Friends, Last year at this time, when I announced Cedric Bouchard's 2002 Roses de Jeanne Creux d'Enfer as my 2007 "Wine of the Year" and the finest wine I tasted during 2007 (including every wine, from every region of the world, old or young), I received a number of long emails from collectors that did not appreciate my selection. Their reasoning ran the gamut from "I've never hear of this guy, you must be off your rocker" to the blunt "you are an idiot". I routinely take pot-shots for going out on a limb but my skin has never been thicker after more than a decade of taking darts. Strong words aside, In February of this year we followed up the Roses de Jeanne WOTY selection with an offer for Bouchard's 2004 Haut Lemblee where I continued my effusive praise for this young star - I called him one of the top producers in all of Europe and I do not make statements like that very often (again, I received a bizarre number of sharp-tongued barbs from knowledgeable collectors but I pressed on...) Fast-forward a year and (as it always seems to play out) today I received order requests from the same individuals who threw barbs and darts - now they are asking for Cedric Bouchard's Champagne. Why? A few days ago, the December issue of the Wine Advocate "introduced" Cedric Bouchard as the highest rated new portfolio in all of Champagne and basically the highest rated of any house (including Krug). Bouchard's Haut Lemblee (the wine we offered last winter) was the highest rated wine of the entire issue - equaled only by 1996 Krug and Selosse's Contraste. In a nutshell, as I've said all year, this producer's portfolio is set to rise in price faster than any I can remember - $200-400/bottle is not out of the question for any of his cuvees. Rarity breeds cost and in this case we are talking about some of the rarest wines in all of Champagne - secondary auction value should be interesting to watch as Champagne remains one of the hottest areas on the auction circuit. While they are not inexpensive, Cedric's wine at some point will be out of reach, even for the deepest pockets. Take advantage while the price is still within some semblance of reason: I cannot recommend this producer highly enough - he is a shining star in a sea of mediocrity. Cedric Bouchard deserves every bit of praise he's received and I will continue to go out of my way to espouse his gifted ability (even if it means my allocation will be squeezed by every importer in the world now trying to secure the rights). VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for extreme rarity and ethereal style (only 15 cases for the entire US - compare that to 250-500 or more cases of vintage Krug): This parcel is directly from the source with perfect provenance: (2001) Cedric Bouchard Champagne "La Parcelle" Blanc de Noirs (Inflorescence) (this is not the "Val Vilaine" or regular Inflorescence bottling, this is the reserve vintage selection) EXTREMELY LIMITED (if we run out, Chambers Street has 12 bottles at about the same price) Thank you, Jon Rimmerman Garagiste Seattle, WA Champ9690
