(BRUNELLO Stella di Campalto) Campalto Dear Friends, As long-term email list members know, I often reference this property as one of the most important discoveries of my career. Before she had even bottled her first Rosso, while the first vintages were still in cask, I knew Stella di Campalto was on the road to not only importance but influence. To put it mildly, I had not tasted Brunello of this breed and truth since early vintages of Soldera. Part of my “job” is to to watch emerging houses and players and their growth from year to year – some consistently excel and others fall back to the pack - Campalto has soared. Not only has her wine developed poise and stature with each passing year but the inner voice of each vintage has matured and gained wisdom – something most young producers fail to achieve until they are much older or more experienced (or never at all). In this case, the terroir and the woman have become fused at the hip – they have become one and the resulting wines speak for themselves as some of Europe’s very finest. While the 2006 Brunello has not been reviewed yet, you can get the idea of where we’re headed with a peak at a few older reviews - mark my words, the 2006 is another step up in the process. If it means anything, I rarely purchase magnums for my own cellar but I made sure to secure one of these multi-faceted jewels for my own experimentation... A complicated and singular expression of honesty mixed with a siren’s song of the soul of Sangiovese Grosso: ...and a precursor to the 2006 Brunello... VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for the sheer genius of stuffing every possible element of varietal expression and terroir into a throw-back concoction that balances tradition and modernity like few others. A wine in the league of Cerbaiona with even more pure minerality. ONE SMALL SHIPMENT ONLY directly from the winery cellar with perfect provenance: 2006 Stella di Campalto Brunello di Montalcino 750ml - STRICT LIMIT 12/person until we run out 2006 Stella di Campalto Brunello di Montalcino 1.5lt - EXTREMELY LIMITED 1/person (as far as I know, there are only a few cases of magnums coming to the US, which makes this one of the rarest examples of the 2006 vintage – this would be an excellent choice for a 2006 birth year) To order either of the above: nicki@garagistewine.com This parcel is set to depart from Montalcino – it will arrive in the late spring (please check OARS for local pick-up after June 15th). It will ship during the Fall shipping season and will still be evolving and giving cerebral pleasure well into its 20’s... Out of state orders will be held for free under ideal storage conditions (56 degrees/70%humidity) until shipping is possible. Locals may pick up at their leisure.
