Nancy Mietz, who owns the winery with her husband, is not only an engaging, irreverent, and kind person but also makes wines that are just as good as her fancy neighbors at half to two thirds the price. She knows it. She just doesn't think marketing is worth her time. During one visit on a hot day she not only offered to hold our wine (hers and some bottles from other wineries nearby) but returned to the tasting room in the late afternoon to collect other bottles we purchased (again from other wineries) and package and mail them, at cost, to New York. When Superstorm Sandy hit, she personally phoned and emailed us to make sure that the wine could get through. All this and an outstanding, relaxed tasting experience in a barn on the side of the road. I imagine this is what Sonoma used to be twenty years ago and I wish I was there to experience it.
