Because of the sweetish note that tangerine (and sweet citrus) adds to the aroma profile, you might think that Viognier will have some sugar on the palate, but it's almost always made in a dry (i.e. no residual grape sugar) style.

Viognier is typically a medium-full bodied white wine, packing relatively high alcohol but low acidity. It's quite rich and similar in weight to Chardonnay, however it is distinctly more aromatic. It's generally advised you enjoy it young, while the acidity and wonderful aromas are still fresh!

Depending on the age of the vine and time of harvest, some viogniers offer a creamy hint of vanilla or the spicy nuance of clove, nutmeg, or allspice. While the color and nose of these wines would suggest a sweeter flavor, they are on the drier side of the spectrum, considered dry or off-dry.

Viognier ranges in taste from lighter flavors of tangerine, mango and honeysuckle to creamier aromas of vanilla with spices of nutmeg and clove. Depending on the producer and how it's made, it will range in intensity from light and spritzy with a touch of bitterness to bold and creamy.
