Geography: wines from Mount Veeder - the mountain by the bay - tend to have the longest growing season and the lowest yields in Napa; virtually all vineyard work is done by hand due to the rugged conditions and steep slopes; extremely steep slopes, above the fog, render shallow topsoil and minimal water retention, resulting in tiny berries, with intense flavor concentration yet soft tannins
Vineyard: the vines in OS' steeply terraced "Betty's Vineyard" struggle for nourishment and moisture consistently producing clusters with small berries and intense flavors; wines from this vineyard are known for their power and elegance; aromatically, there are lavender and violet tones emanating from this property
