2009 handed us another great vintage to work with for our 4th release of this cool climate, vineyard designate Syrah. With every passing year we are amazed with the heady perfume and explosive pigments produced from the Las Madres vineyard Hulda block. On the nose, scents of pomegranate, cured black olive, orange zest and mixed red fruits soar from the glass. Typical of this vineyard, the wine is dark as night with an electric edge to the rim. On the palate several waves of fruit, baking spice and earthen components are followed with a fully integrated mouth feel that seems to float like a cloud throughout the finish. While youthful upon release, with a few years of age this wine will further gain tertiary components and rich fruit notes, which make Syrah so intellectually interesting.
