* The crimson-colored Cycles Gladiator 2006 Syrah begins with an intriguing blend of raspberry and wild plum aromas framed by fresh cracked pepper and lovely notes of oak. Decidedly rich, the mouth is ripe with big red fruit flavors layered over spice, tobacco and blueberry. The full-bodied mouthfeel is complemented by soft tannins that melt into a medium thread of desirable acidity.
* This wine is sourced primarily from two Central Coast appellations that each bring distinct characteristics to the blend. The grapes from Paso Robles provide warm and jammy flavors with soft tannins and good acidity. Meanwhile, the cool-climate Monterey Syrah is intense with plum and pepper flavors and a solid acidic structure. This combination of warm and cool climate fruit has produced a complex and layered wine that offers all of the best flavors of California’s Central Coast vineyards.
* Syrah is one of the most versatile and exciting varietals. This wine is delicious with wildfowl such as duck and pheasant or savory barbequed ribs. It also pairs smartly with lighter fare such as a pungent butter lettuce and radicchio salad tossed with goat cheese, walnuts, pears, dried hibiscus and a pear-balsamic vinaigrette. For busy on-the-go evenings serve with a burrito, chips and salsa.
* Acidity: 0.62gm/100
* Alcohol: 13.5%
* Oak: 65% New French oak, 35% neutral French oak
* Varietal: 83% Syrah; 6% Petite Sirah; 11% Cabernet Sauvignon
