Produced with Nebbiolo grapes exclusively from the Bric Mentina vineyard located on a hilltop in the heart of the winemaking zone of Barbaresco (CN). The vines, trained with the guyot method, are an average of 30-35 years old and yield approximately 70 quintals per hectare. The harvest generally takes place in October.

The grapes are collected in baskets and immediately taken to the cellar to be pressed and de-stemmed. They are then put into special temperature-controlled vats where they ferment for about 12-15 days, with frequent repassing to extract colouring elements. After alcoholic fermentation, the wine is stored in temperature-controlled steel vats to promote malolactic fermentation.

In Spring, the wine is transferred to oak barrels to age for at least 24 months. After ageing, the perfectly mature and clear wine is bottled. The bottled wine is racked for six months in temperature-controlled rooms until delivery.

Deep ruby red/garnet colour with orange reflections. Rich and opulent nose, with hints of dried roses and truffle. Dry, full-bodied, majestic, of grat elegance.

Serve at 18° C. To drink with roasted meats, game, and aged cheeses.

Vineyards:

Our vineyard heritage has almost reached ten hectares, the greater part owned. The two farms are located in Agliano Terme and Costigliole d'Asti.

The first one, mainly devoted to Barbera, is included in the cru "Nizza". Here after having selected the best vineyards for the production of Barbera, we've decided to introduce new vines such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Nebbiolo, that allow us to experiment new vinification techniques and also new blending.

The second one in Costigliole, included in the "Tinella" cru, has a south exposure, and it's completely dedicated to the Barbera growing: no doubt the wine that in the last few years has became our flag both in Italy and abroad.

For all the remaining grapes Valfieri has always purchased the finest grapes from growers whose vineyards are in the region's best zones: extraordinary crus, perfectly exposed to the sun, with extremely limited production per hectare.
