WINE CLUB FALL 2013
A non-traditional blend of Mourvedre, Grenache, Tannat and Syrah from head-trained, dry-farmed blocks, and mostly from the 12-acre block we call Scruffy Hill. We co-fermented the components from Scruffy Hill, then blended in Tannat from our head-trained section for its dark color, smoky, spicy flavors, and firm tannins. It was aged in foudre.
A dramatic dark nose showing meaty, iron-like aromas that bring to mind newly-carved rare grilled steak. This mingles with aromatics that shift between black and red fruit (blackcurrant and black cherry) and a minty, chocolatey note. In the mouth, it's rich and robust with meaty flavors of espresso and cocoa bean, and powerful but refined tannins coming out at the end. The finish shows more grilled meat and a hint of saline. Drink over the next two decades.
