Dear Gary, Walsh (wine front)

from Tamara (Irish)

ENIGMA VARIATIONS PRESS RELEASE July 8, 2008

Tamara Irish, former principal of Tarrington Vineyards, is excited and delighted to announce the development of her next phase of development as a winegrower.

Along with New Zealand born Julia Hailes, a delightful Francophile, violinist and psychodramatist, they are progressing towards the establishment of a winery and vineyard, to be known as Enigma Variations, at the base of the mighty Grampians mountain range on a stunning piece of ancient land near Dunkeld, Victoria.

Such land is rarely seen on the open market and Tamara is honoured to have successfully negotiated the purchase of this parcel of pristine land from Peter and Pat Cameron.

Like Tamara, the Cameron’s are respectful and careful rural practitioners, delighted to welcome the world of independent biodynamic farming and winegrowing to this remarkable piece of land.

The vineyard will be reliant upon ancient practices, respectful of the place of people on the land and cultivated with a genuine sympathy and respect for the natural environment, acknowledged as influenced by a potent cosmos.

It is interesting to note that contemporary research is not proving to be of great assistance in the development.

Rather, historical farming and winegrowing literature, along with local practice wisdom is required to inform the work.

Classical Rhone Valley method and technique will drive the Vineyard practice, and make its way into the winery.

Unlike so many organic/biodynamic Vineyards in Australia [certified and otherwise] this Vineyard [and in fact the entire farm] will have no arsenic or creosote treated poisoned posts in or on the earth to cause the progressive, silent damage that we know occurs when these materials are used, damaged, burnt etc.

In fact, high tensile wire will also be eliminated which Tamara considers to be equally undesirable as the aforementioned posts!

There will be established a closed and integrated farming system that will see the reintroduction of working animals [including horses] to the level experienced by their noble farming histories.

In the very short term, ultra premium fruit will be sourced elsewhere, with dynamic and potent grower liaisons in place to allow us to be a force in the market place.
